Did my backdoor just RSVP without me?! 🍑 In this video, we’re talking about something some people deal with but almost nobody wants to say out loud. Accidental poop leakage (including those sharts). Yep, we’re going there.I walk you through what anal incontinence is, why it happens, and how the body is designed to keep things contained and coordinated in the first place.

I cover common causes, from surgery and childbirth to neurological conditions, constipation, diarrhea, and aging. Then we shift into conservative, evidence-informed strategies that pelvic floor therapy uses to help improve control and confidence. That includes stool consistency basics, mindful pooping techniques, why a poop stool is worth its weight in gold, pelvic floor muscle training, rectal balloon training, and how biofeedback helps retrain coordination in real time. Yes, you’ll actually see me working my pelvic floor muscles with a sensor up my bum.

This was never an issue for me, until about 6 months ago. It's not frequent, but once in a while, I'll pass gas... and within a few seconds, I'll get that... "I just pooped" sensation down there. I've had to leave work on a few occasions, to go home and change underwear and pants. 😳😟😩 I'll watch the video and see what I can do to help remedy this.

"I'm going to imagine I'm having a nice shit right now." "Just let that shit out." Lol You continue to crack me up. Thank you

I feel like I bear down quite I bit when I have to go. My biggest issue is post-BM leaking. Where I'll have a BM, get clean, then a little while later I feel like I need to wipe again, and I do. Its never enough to mess up my underwear, but its enough to cause discomfort, and has made it so I just end up holding it when I'm out and about. I have a bidet at home, so its never an issue here, but it sucks when I'm traveling. It makes me anxious about having a BM anywhere but home. I'm seeing two different PFPT's and both of them have just said more fiber, but my stool is always a 3 or a 4 on the scale, so its definitely the right consistency. It generally feels like I don't get fully empty. Neither of my PT's have done any kind of internal work so far. I've read that a squatty potty could help, and thats great at home, but what am I supposed to do when I'm at work or traveling? I can't exactly carry one around with me at all times. I'm so frustrated by this situation, and it seems like its just not going to improve. I have SO MUCH anxiety around pooping when I'm not at home at this point.

Hey Danny! First, I truly appreciate you trusting this space to share something so personal with us. That sounds so frustrating to say the least. I think rectal balloon training might be beneficial - there may be a anorectal hyposensitivity issue going on. I recommend consulting with your pelvic therapist about this treatment to discuss whether or not it would be appropriate for you.

Thank you for trusting this space to share your experience with us, Mark. Yes, it sounds like there may be some pelvic floor dyssynergia going on, especially if you feel like you have to bear down a lot to have a bowel movement. It's surprising that none of the pelvic therapists have performed an internal exam as that would offer more information and treatment guidance. More fiber is not always the answer. In addition, rectal balloon therapy or sEMG biofeedback would probably be beneficial too. And if they have anal manometry, a huge bonus! The squatty potty can definitely help! When traveling, I simply turn the trash can upside down and put my feet on top or stack some towels together. I get resourceful (and creative) when traveling. 😉
