In this video, I walk you through a real-time transabdominal bladder ultrasound as part of a female pelvic floor exam. We take a look at the bladder and how the bladder neck moves and responds during an attempted pelvic floor contraction. This is the first part of the exam, with the continuation, including translabial real-time ultrasound, dropping on February 13th.
This is a gentle, noninvasive way to see what’s happening with pelvic floor coordination, breathing, and pressure management. It helps connect the dots between what someone feels in their body and what’s actually happening underneath the surface. Those visual “aha” moments can be really powerful.
This approach can be especially helpful for:
Simple pelvic floor muscle screening in people with hip, low back, or pelvic girdle pain
Improving pelvic floor contraction awareness and technique
Situations where someone isn’t comfortable with an internal or external pelvic exam
Pediatric pelvic health assessments
Training bladder urgency and frequency
Assessing bladder base support during load or movement
Watch the video to see how bladder filling, movement, and pelvic floor coordination show up on ultrasound in real time.
