So, real world backstory. The actress who played Mudeok in season 1 is Jung So Min who was 32 at the time of filming. Jung So Min is one of the top 3 film & TV actresses of her generation in South Korea. Casting her is similar to someone casting Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron or Zendaya for their show over here. She was guaranteed to draw an audience because of who she is. However, they knew from the beginning that she was going to be unable to do season 2 because she was already committed to film a movie at that time. So they cast a relative newcomer, the much younger Go Youn Jung (who was 25/26 at the time of filming), as Naksu in season 1 and gave her a minor role knowing all along that she would take over as the main female lead in Season 2. I believe, due to South Korea being very conservative culturally, that's also why they minimized the romance in Season 1 and kept it in the background, because Jung So Min was 32 and Lee Jae Wook (Jang Uk) was 23 at the time. Go Youn Jung is much closer in age, so a romance between their characters is more socially acceptable. And yes, I HAVE seen Guardian: The Great and Lonely God (and this channel's reaction to it), but I said what I said. The in-universe explanation is a little weirder. Mudeok's body was Jin Bu-yeon's original body and it is now permanently associated with Naksu. It seems that Jin Bu-yeon's soul reformed the body into Naksu's original body (perhaps with some outside help) because very few people actually knew what Naksu looked like. Everyone else hasn't seen Jin Bu-yeon since she was a kid (not realizing that Mudeok was really Jin Bu-yeon) so it's easy for them to accept her as the grown-up Jin Bu-yeon because they only know what she looked like as a child if they knew her at all. So the current Jin Bu-yeon is Naksu's body with Naksu's soul in control and Jin Bu-yeon in the background. However, the curveball in all of this is that Naksu no longer has any of her memories. So she's really her original self, Cho Yeong, without all of the baggage of remembering her father's death and her training as an assassin. Basically kind of a clean slate so to speak. Which is why she seems to be so naive and has no clue who anyone is or what is going on. Jin Bu-yeon's soul is still in there and, as you will see later, has her own plans.

I mean even previous Naksu was a little goofy and a bit narcissistic she just was so pessimistic compared to this version. She also knew she was a beauty and was extremely disappointed with Bu-yeon/Mudeok's face and not just her weak physique despite her being very pretty as well.

I think yall are forgetting that Mudeok is originally Buyeon. Buyeon turned into Mudoek when she ''got lost'' then Naksu transferred into Mudeok/Buyeon's body.

not sure why you say that but i agree thats what happened. Throughout the reaction different people had different theories but at some point its spelled out clearly. So yeah i agree with that information
