You guys are watching this from the viewer’s perspective, not Kim Ga-on’s perspective, and that’s the problem. From our side, we’re basically omniscient. We see everything, we know why Kang Yo-han does what he does, we know his intentions. Kim Ga-on does not have that privilege. He’s working with fragments, contradictions, and a man who actively chooses to look like a monster. Start with this, the “devil in his ear” has always been his mentor, Min Jung-ho. This is not just some random influence, this is the man who raised him after his parents died. If that person keeps telling you over and over that Kang Yo-han is dangerous, that plants seeds, not instantly, but slowly (even the President, as slow as that man is, could see that). Then you have Yoon Soo-hyun, someone he trusts deeply, basically family, also believing Yo-han is a monster. And despite that, Ga-on still stood against both of them to support Yo-han. That alone proves he wasn’t irrational, he actually gave Yo-han the benefit of the doubt longer than most people would. But here’s where people are being unrealistic, the “what if.” After Soo-hyun dies, those doubts are no longer theoretical. Now it becomes, What if they were right, What if I was wrong, What if I ignored the warning signs and got her killed, That is a completely natural psychological response. That’s not weakness, it’s accountability mixed with guilt. And let’s be honest, Yo-han does not help his case. Kang Yo-han, Rarely explains himself, Admits he would manipulate Ga-on if necessary, Immediately starts talking about “we need to stand together” right after Soo-hyun’s death, which is exactly the kind of emotional leverage he previously said he would use, remember his parents’ fraud case episode, after Ga-on found out the truth, Is directly tied to covering up the church fire, “Especially since the reason is unknown, he already claimed to have told me everything, why did he never mention this,” Yes, we suspect why he covered it up, but there were uncertainties. Ga-on doesn’t know that. From his perspective, it’s just more suspicious behavior tied to a man who already operates outside the law. So now you have, A mentor warning you, A trusted ally dead, Witnesses dropping like flies, A man who looks, acts, and sometimes admits he’ll behave like a manipulator, And people expect Ga-on to have zero doubt, That’s not realistic. What he did wasnt unfathomable, what he did was perfectly rational, and we aren’t. Even in Episode 14, when Ga-on exposed the court’s manipulation, yes, it was frustrating. I was annoyed too. But his reasoning was consistent with his character. He wasn’t trying to “stop Yo-han the monster,” he was trying to stop the public from becoming monsters. That scene with the woman who was pushing for the death penalty and convincing her friends in the café, what was her reaction when she came home and saw her kids reenacting it, that’s exactly what Ga-on saw. Same with the kids mimicking the flogging punishment from that case, even though that scene was manipulated. Kim Ga-on feels the consequences on the public more than anyone else. That’s who he is. And another thing people are missing, Ga-on doesn’t actually think Yo-han is a monster, not fully. If he did, he would have walked away long ago. He stayed, He cooked for them, He tried to bring some kind of normalcy into that house, Why, because in his head, he thinks Yo-han is someone who can still be saved, someone who crossed lines out of pain, not because he’s inherently evil, and more importantly, someone who hasn’t crossed the final line yet. Executing someone live on national TV, That’s the line Ga-on refused to let him cross. Because in Ga-on’s mind, once Yo-han crosses that, there’s no coming back. So yes, we all know Yo-han’s method is effective, we all know the system is broken and that conventional justice won’t work. Ga-on even knows this, which is why he stayed and worked with him in the first place. But effectiveness doesn’t mean there are no limits. Episode 15 is where those limits collide with doubt, guilt, and incomplete information. So people being angry at Ga-on for his reaction in Episode 15, to me, it’s unrealistic. It only makes sense if you’re watching as an all-knowing viewer. From his perspective, with everything he has seen, everything he has lost, and everything he does not know, his reaction is completely justified. Even if it’s frustrating. I’m sorry this is so long, I hope you actually read it to the end. It took me a while to type this out, so I’d appreciate it if you did. And just to be clear, I’m not policing how you guys react to the show. I actually enjoy your discussions. It’s just that I genuinely think everything he did in this episode made sense. A rational person would have come to a similar conclusion. Anything else leans more toward blind trust than logic, in my opinion. Also, personally, I wouldn’t have confronted Yo-han like that. At that point, I’d be thinking about survival too. I would have pretended to stay on his side, gone back to the mansion, and quietly gathered more evidence. I wouldn’t trust him 100%, I wouldn’t let him know I was suspicious, I wouldn’t confront him directly when I know that’s a fight I might not win, At that moment, it could become a fight, and that alone makes open confrontation a risky, irrational move. That’s my opinion.
