I loved rewatching this with you guys. A lot of people thought you wouldn’t like this story because of the cringe factor, but I’m glad you were able to look past that and see that it actually has a really good plot and makes you think about your life. I also love how open you are to different genres. P.S. I’m happy you watched this one first because this director usually includes cameos and references to her other works. One example is True Beauty, which It's been a couple of times in your polls. So if you ever get to react to that too, you’ll be ready to catch all the cameos and references.

I think the character that surprised me the most was Baek Gyeong. He is such a complicated character that I didn't know how to feel about him when I first watched this show. He had such a strong conviction to stay true to his setup (because he had a lot of benefits) but when he learned about his previous character the conviction went away. I always felt like the writer was the villain of the story so with him wanting to strictly follow what the writer planned made me not want to root for him, but I finally saw him as another victim when he started to see himself as a monster because of what the writer made him do in "Trumpet Creeper". Glad you guys watched it and your insights on this story proves once again why you guys are one of the best reactors out there!

They went from bullying joodah to sort of bullying namjoo. Him decked out in everything strawberry had me cracking up. 😂 they could’ve went on with a season 2 with this drama. Because i’m curious to see if namjoo would’ve came self aware in this new comic since they didn’t have him become that way in the “secret”.

What’s funny to me is many always make comments about kdramas like this one being cringey. But forget that the whole point is to keep it with that webtoon/comic book vibe as it’s literally about characters who are legit in a comic book or in other dramas the dramas being based of a webtoon. lol. It’s not supposed to be like reality. Without the “cringe”, it would lose that animated aspect of it being the comic book world.

I honestly didn't think you guys would love this drama as much and preparing myself for your harsh comments since not a lot of people appreciate the storyline and depth and I love your take for the whole story. Now I'm looking forward to the other shows in the future for older kdramas 💜

I think the last episode also seemed really slow because we are just waiting for everyone to start disappearing. It also just didn’t make sense to me that Ha-ru wouldn’t be in all those final scenes because he is supposed to be Baek Gyeong ’s best friend, and he was in their class so why wasn’t he included at the graduation. It would make more sense to me if everyone starts to disappear after their class photo. At that point they are no longer important to the comic book. Still an amazing show!

Amazing end discussions from this show. I’m glad I bought the collection so I can revisit this whenever lol. I'm not sure if you caught it at the end but Dan Oh is actually nameless in this new story in university, when she got to her locker she didn't have a name on it and when she dropped her book on the floor and the teacher picked it up, he said "student" and it didn't have her name on it as well. So now, both Dan oh and Haru are nameless extras and are free from the "stage" and can just live in the shadows. Love that for both of them. At the end, they quoted Heidegger and how people were "thrown into the world" (just like in their comic book) and they couldn't do anything against what the writer intended for each of their characters. Like, the writer is "God" in this story and whatever they write, goes. So we, as humans naturally rebel against that. Just like what Dan oh and Haru did in Secret. They did everything they could to try and stop her from dying and choosing their own agency. They tried to change their pre-determined fate and be together. This isn’t a clichéd high school romcom, but an in-depth show about deciding your own destiny and living according to your own desires, instead of the "writer's" (aka supreme being) intentions for you. Regardless of the consequences. Anyway thank you guys and I liked hearing all of your perspectives, as a philosophical nerd 🤓

This drama is one of my all time fave, so in the end i ended up buying the collection because i just couldn't wait! I was worried at first thinking you might not like it but I am so happy you guys enjoyed watching this drama and even made it to the top 10 :))

This was a nice first time watch with you guys and I enjoyed it. The character that surprised me the most was Yeo Joo Da. This girl went from bullied damsel in distress to miss assertive strong woman with player tendencies. She really out here weighing her options trying to build herself a harem. She turned Nam Joo into a damsel in distress that needs her help. 😂 Aside from that, the theme of the stage, the shadows, and character set ups were such an interesting concept that had so many parallels to the roles we dress up as to play on different stages in our everyday lives. The concept really brings more awareness into understanding the possible reasons people do the things they do and more

During my first watch, I was so done with Baek Gyeong - but after Alchemy of Souls, I spent this entire reaction rooting for him, even though I knew he was the drama's second lead. I also found myself enjoying Do Hwa's scenes. He was perceptive (except when Joo Da was implying she was awakened) he was supportive and he really just accepted how his life was played out for him by the writer and accepted that his shadow storyboard was still in line with his stage storyboard. Enjoyed rewatching this with you guys and appreciate your commentaries! ✌🏻

2nd time through this drama and I have two theories: 1. Baek Gyeong and his brother are kinda given off a 'leads in a border-line-BL story the writer will never actually write' vibe to me. 2. I think the story of the 'new' comic is a love triangle with Dan Oh's friend (Seu Mi?), the 'smart guy' (her friend in Secret) and the revamped Nam Joo. She made too many 'he's not my type' declarations for him not to become her type given how fond this writer is of cliches.
