FLUFFFANTASY

Chinese dramas excel at writing strong heroines and crafty, intelligent, and some strong female leads; you should explore more C-dramas where FLs are extremely intelligent and come up with schemes, like Blossom, Glory, and other types of dramas. In the next episode we finally see Xie Zheng going berserk. Changyu is supposed to be pretty and cute because her mom is a pretty woman and her father is not who he tells he is. Another thing Chinese dramas have is the concept of cultivation and internal force, so Changyu is born with excess internal strength, which was not explained in the drama but in the novel.

I think when Xie Zhang was looking at her knives he was thinking aout her fighting style. He recognized her fighting style, which reminded him of his practice with General He, his master in the flashback. That's why he asked her if she knew where her father had trained. Of course she doesn't know cuz she said he must've picked it up on his travels.

I love their relationship too. It's currently my favorite from all the Cdramas I've watched over the years. 😂 They just balance each other so perfectly. Honestly, it's hard to watch new dramas without comparing how good the romance is. Human nature right? It's easy to keep them at the top too cuz a lot of dramas have really toxic male leads.

A.

These are a lot of spoilers, let them watch the show.

so true - i cant recall a drama couple so well matched in skill and temperament

I think it’s both the fighting style and the knives themselves. He recognizes the exceptional craftsmanship and material as a military man, and feels the knives seem out of place for a common villager. So he was putting 2 and 2 together that if Changyu was taught the same techniques he learned from General He, and the knives seemed military grade, then her father must have had connections to the military.

15:20 Chinese culture includes a heavy dose of ancestor worship. It's not just about "asking for stuff" since there's definitely a non-zero part of it that's "making sure they are comfortable in the afterlife so they don't haunt/curse you" 😉 (Warning: Wall of text) Traditionally, it's believed that when you die, part of your spirit remains on earth, which is why the ancestor tablets are so revered (photos of the passed loved ones are often used in modern times for various reasons) and why those thugs (who now work for her 😅) were made to "apologize" to her parents when they trashed Changyu's house and knocked over her parents' tablets. The smoke from the incense "brings" the conversation/"prayers" and the offerings to the spirits of deceased and Changyu would have likely "spoken with her parents" daily via the tablets/home altar, especially during the first year of their passing (the show started shortly after her parents died/they were still in mourning when the show started). This is separate and in addition to visits to and offerings at wherever her parents are buried, which would happen at least a few times a year during special days (e.g. Ching Ming/Tomb Sweeping Day, date of death, etc.), similar to Día de los Muertos/what Erza's more familiar with.

18:33 There's a lot of wordplay in Chinese and names are important. When Changyu notes that 3 out of the 4 ruffians have "Man" as their surname, Jin says he named them and explains that he is Jin ("gold") Yuan-Bao (ingot/chunk of gold or silver) so he named all of the other guys with "man" (which means "full"). This tells us that of the 4 of them, Jin most likely came from the best family and may have had more education than the others as the naming scheme means that together, the group prospers/draws in wealth/is full of money (gold)

Salt was used a lot, to preserve meat and fight against bacteria which is why salt was so important back in the day, almost if not more valuable than gold. I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me on that, but they also used incense and herbs and things like that for fragrances and to keep clean

Love like the galaxy (similar to this) has a good couple balance

I think the writing business is an excuse. He didnt really need to write articles to get money from his friend. The so called book store is just a contacting point for him and the friend.
