@Lee, you guys are adorable. 😍 Usually, the guy sides with the ML and the girl sides with the FL, but you and Erza took the reverse sides! I see both sides. They were both at fault IMO. Anyways, just wanted to clarify one thing. General He is NOT in collusion with the Li clan. His relationship with Lord Li (the grandson) is a teacher-student thing. If you remember in an earlier episode General He told Lord Li that in his eyes, there is no Li vs Wei, just the people of Dayin. He may technically be part of the Wei clan but he doesn’t choose sides. He serves Dayin.

Aish

General He wont betray anyone, he serves the country. He only trusts Marquis, noone else. I love the way you discuss things, i love how you see Marquis side of things too, usualy reactors only take Changus side, forgetting that Marquis grew up without parents or love. In that fight, both were wrong. But man he loves her so much! He thinks he will die though. Now on , show gonna take a complete different route. Enjoying your reactions.

YaBoyRockLee Reactions

Yes lol. Cuz both of us admire traits in the opposite sex from us lol and argue for them. Lol. I can tell. And General He. Correct that’s what he said. I remember and understand he said he’s for the people.

Aish

Yes, she saw through him.

Majestic

dont worry Lee, everyone for the most part was with changyu on this one. they werent both wrong: he was. she did everything thing she could to make it easier for him to leave (clothes, shoes, money, telling him she doesnt want him tired down when he leaves so that it is easier on him) even at her own detriment cause she didnt want him to. but even though we acknowledged he is wrong, we understand that he has never been in love and doesnt know how to handle it at all. i was about to explain it further but you hit the nail on the head perfectly

Seelia

I personally think they were both wrong and right. That fight really hurt my heart. She always knew he would eventually leave but was hoping he would change his mind, cuz she doesn't know why he's really leaving! He wants to stay but knows he can't and want her to understand him but won't tell her the truth...instead of saying what's in their hearts, they just say hurtful things to each other. Been there, done that, that's why it hurts. 😂

Lani S

I don’t agree. Both contributed to the fight. One of my pet peeves is if the other party tries to be a martyr and instead of saying what they want, tries to be self sacrificing. Come on. They were hugging and holding hands, shared sweet moments. Then you bring up divorce because you don’t want to tie him down. She set the tone right there and then. He should have challenged it instead of pouting about it. The mature thing to do is talk about their status and discuss their future together instead of one side making assumptions and the other side hiding things. I know, easier said than done. I understand where both were coming from and why both of them acted the way they did. But that’s the point. Both had faults, not just one.

Majestic

Both said hurtful things during the argument yes but he was wrong in the grand scheme of things. we even see this addressed from the beginning till now before this happened. even her convo with quianquian, she brought it up that she has asked him many times in round about ways and he said he will leave. she got her final confirmation when he was asking to give her a birthday present for years to come. she was trying her best to part with him in such a pleasant way with preparing everything for his departure. he was being selfish with how he handled it. talk less about forcefully kissing her not once, but twice, telling her to follow him and then asking her to wait for him after telling her she has terrible taste in men. it would have been a lil better (not much but a lil) to start with telling her to follow him first not at the end of the convo after saying all of that

YaBoyRockLee Reactions

Yeah. He don’t wanna talk and share info but wanna forcefully kiss her? Lol. I noticed during intimate moments she always talks about nonsense lol. I don’t think she knows what to say or not to say. She talks about raising pigs and him leaving lol. He knows what he wants to hear but he’s not communicating. She doesn’t actually know what he wants to hear. She saying what comes natural The reason I fault him more is he has a higher level of awareness over EVERYTHING. Who he is, her parents, what he wants, everything. She really don’t over think it. She asks if he is gonna leave and he says yes so she’s preparing Yeah they had a sweet moment.. but she can’t forget he leaving so she brings it up She not letting the Delulu take over

YaBoyRockLee Reactions

The mature answer is to simply say they are both responsible I have issues with my wife there’s no benefit in me thinking only I’m right. Buuuuuut. If they were in divorce court … you gotta rule in favor of SOMEONE and she got it. Just barely. But she got it

Majestic

It’s quite fascinating to see the discussion here cause when the show was airing, it was almost like a no brainer with everyone thinking he handled it so very poorly overall. even with the reactions I’ve seen thus far. Erza’s argument was hilarious though: she said, “girl accept that kiss and wait for him.” then that wouldn’t be the Changyu we all know and love 😂

A.

Something I found interesting on the rewatch is that she found him during New Year's and now they're separating just after new years. So the show has covered a whole year+ of them being together. It's a very full circle moment, along with him falling to the ground in the same place she stumbled over him.

A.

I think he set the tone when he told her he'd find her a man and asked what type she likes. She was non-committal when he asked about her remarrying because she wanted to make it easy for him to leave.

Lani S

It’s not a whole year. Just a month. She found him at the beginning of pre new year festivities as she was slaughtering a new year’s pig which you don’t slaughter at new year.

A.

According to reddit it was 2 years in the book but just the December to February period in the show. they fooled me with all the festivities I don't understand plus the 16 vs 17 years talk.

Lani S

Well, because episode 1 started mid December then they had Chinese New Year which could be anytime between last week of Jan to mid Feb, so 17 years now because it’s a new year. Similar to how Koreans all turn 1 year older at the start of the year regardless of their birthday. So it’s probably between 1-2 months. I read the book and the time in the village there is also about the same.

Jen Gribble

I read the book and it was about the same time period there as well. Most of their relationship occurs over a period of 2 months - from mid-December, through Chinese New Year (late Jan/Feb) to just after the lantern festival (15 days after the New Year). The 'year' thing is because they passed the New Year. 2020 would be 25 years ago last year and then 26 years ago this year regardless of when exactly in 2020 something occurred.

Jen Gribble

I know you've finished the series, but for the benefit of those watching as it hits the schedule, here is a non-spoiler overview of the political situation which can be harder to pick up on first watch: 1. The country/dynasty is Dayin. Two families, Wei and Li, are contending for control of the court with Wei currently in ascent and has influence with the military in the Northwest. The current Emperor is surnamed Qi and does not appear to have an independent power base. 2. There is a civil war going on in the Northwest. One province (Chongzhou) is in open rebellion aiming to overthrow the Emperor. The 'Prince Changxin' they keep mentioning is surnamed Sui and leading the rebellion, along with his two sons. 3. Jizhou (the province where our story is taking place) is also in the Northwest and therefore on the invasion path for the rebels. The plot with the grain was an attempt by the rebels to either force the Jizhou commoners to join the rebellion (because they would be criminals otherwise) and/or delegitimize the government (because they would have slaughtered farmers) 4. There is a fourth faction that is mentioned, but we haven't seen which is the 'Northern He'. This is an external nation that invaded the Northwest 16/17 years ago and caused the Jinzhou massacre which killed both Xie Zheng's father and Crown Prince Chengde. Both Chancellor Wei and Grand Tutor Li used to be aides for Prince Chengde (this is what was meant by 'we both served the Eastern Palace').| The progress for the conscription makes sense when you think of the geography. First they conscripted refugees (mostly from Chongzhou) with the intent to send them back to the frontlines to fight to reclaim the province they came from. Now they are rounding up residents of Jizhou, ostensibly to fight to protect their homes but really to keep the rebels from advancing further towards the capital. I'm guessing there were many different ways wealthier citizens could exempt themselves, their families, and their most essential servants from conscription since we know Song Yan didn't have to go and we see some random laborers and guardsmen about. who aren't panicking. The folks in Xigu Alley, though, are not going to have the money or power to get out of service (just like with real life draft boards)

DramaLoverBerry

So I dont know if you guys know this yet, cuz I didnt know about it until someone else explained it. But the head piece on Xie Zheng's head is made of peasant feathers. It was a real military thing in ancient China. It iwas used to show rank and the longer the feathers are, the higher rank the person is. Thats why the feathers are so long!
