Hey guys!

I would just summarize here and respond to some of the comments under the previous posts. Also, I would like to clarify a few things.

Patreon or Subscribestar?

I opened my Subscribestar page at the beginning of 2021. I created it earlier, but that's when I started promoting you to use it, because then it was a better alternative to Patreon. There was also a larger flow at that time.

Number of Patreon subscribers

After that, I continuously listed Subscribestar as my primary site. Despite this, the number of people continued to decrease, while Patreon's increased in contrast. I suspect this is because Patreon offers many more payment options. And it's constantly evolving. It's still used by plenty of NSFW artists. And subscribers are reluctant to switch platforms if it works. Patreon already works well technically and is constantly developing. Unfortunately, this cannot be said about Subscribestar. And the number of subscribers is decreasing.

I don't want to cancel or drive people back to Patreon, but if we get below a certain number...

The disadvantage of a shared platform is that sometimes there are completely different reactions under one post on the two platforms. The polls tend to be different as well. Of course there would be a common place: Discord. But I can't expect everyone to use it.

Recently, Patreon has been busy clarifying its business rules and terms of use. In this way, it is increasingly clear what their expectations are and thus it is easier to adjust. I see a lot of tweaking after the initial tweaks. Of course, this can change at any time.

So, for now, I don't plan on making any changes in this regard.

Artists or AI

I have already described my thoughts on this in quite a few posts. I haven't replaced any employees or external artists with AI. I can't draw illustrations and I've never worked with 2d artists. But I already asked for a quote. And making a comic book, for example, is not cheap fun. Especially one that is basically free and just an addition to the main production. So, if there was an AI that could give good results... yes, I would use it. Because it's cheap and fast. It's extremely effective. But isn't that what people want? "Get the GK4 ready!", "Where's the LiT8?" etc. "Good, but then why are you working on another animation?" Well, because I'm not a machine either. Please allow me to act as an artist and not as an AI or what exactly do you want???

What is very important is that you can separate those AIs that specifically perform imaging (e.g. Midjourney) and those that can help production. E.g. texturing, rigging, animation, simulations, etc. So they can do partial tasks. I really hope that these will gain more and more space and I will definitely use them. In this way, I will be able to speed up production and make more detailed, longer videos.

I don't see AI as taking work away from artists. There will always be good artists and they will always have work. In fact, I think they will appreciate them much more and earn more in the future. The people who create with their hands and brushes have not disappeared either. They could use a digital board and photoshop. I think the important thing would be to make the AI content recognizable. So that it cannot be abused.

AI or employee

I was advised to hire interns and artists to speed up production. Yes, it would be a good investment in a normal company. But my content is not exactly normal. Building a multi-person business based on which card issuer bans adult content is quite risky. GK and LiT are also not very family friendly. NSFW game developers working in a larger team are a completely different case. They have a much simpler job.

In addition, there are clearly financial reasons. I should change the company form. To tax more and extract the salary of the interns. After which I have to pay taxes again. In addition, the trainee should be provided with a workstation. Because a student probably won't have the money for such a powerful machine that we work on.

The art part may also change. If my activity changes to managing the production, I can participate less. This would definitely make a difference to the videos that were produced. It is not certain that people would get what they came here for. In this case, mechanization would occur much more than if I were to use AI. Of course, this can also be a good discussion topic.

And finally, there is discretion.

Of course, I do not rule out working in a team. In fact, this was my goal when I started Patreon. Unfortunately, a lot has changed on the Internet since then. Now we have to be a little more careful to make it work. We'll see what happens.

Sorry, this got a bit long. I hope I didn't bore anyone with my thoughts. Thanks for the many comments that I tried to answer here. Thanks for reading and your support.

See ya!!!

I don't like subscribestar personally because the amount of clicks it takes to save an image at full res is absolute ass. Like 3 clicks. And if you have an artist that posts large sets that's just a hard pass. Regarding hiring randos and moving to managing... bad idea tbh. You can see an artist like Miro do something like that then just doesn't do F all for 5 years and drops the main project that was supposed to be worked on while super bad artists put out junk for him to post on his page considerably not up to snuff with the quality people expect. Though I think his problem is hiring rando hobbyists rather than actual credentialed industry professionals. Don't make that same mistake if you decide to take such a route. Another example being Otto Cubze. Started a VN and it didn't have much content but it was great. Then Cubze decides to take a huge break from doing art at all and they get another artist to start working on the VN and the quality goes to absolute trash. And that's a pretty regular trend, quality tends to drop like a rock when the primary artist people follow stops working on stuff. That much should be obvious, too. Though I think if an artist primarily did non-animated 3D sets it could work for them. Maybe. With the type of content that you do I think setting up your own studio could be risky. What with horse cocks and BDSM and such... that makes it a bit more financially tenuous. Like you never know when some new rule will come out banning it or something. At least it seems that way to me. I'm very pro AI and I think it's the future. Though I do think it'll hurt some artists, particularly ones who refuse to adapt and try to fight against change rather than embracing it and using it to their own advantage. Ultimately if people end up able to pump out dozens of images with AI in the time it takes an artist to put out one the artist will lose in a cost value proposition where it just won't be worth it supporting them anymore. Personally if I was a 2D artist I'd just train a loras with my own art style and have it pumping out content for me. Even if there are slight errors it would take way less time to just fix those errors in post than making completely new stuff from scratch. It's getting pretty good for 3D too, though not so much animation as of yet. But 3D artists will be less skilled at fixing any errors since it's not particularly their medium.

AI: Yes, it can support and I agree there can be a use for AI technology. But for now the results arent there.

MSM

Employees: Probably not the best solution rn as you cant just grab the next dude off the street and have him/her create quality stuff...

I guess its a choice: volume or quality, for me you are all about the quality. In story, the evolving journey, in 'exotic' thoughts, details, you seem to have an idea where this all should be heading, it's compelling, springs forth from most of your actions and productions. Stick with it as far as I am concerned. Volume crap we can get elsewhere. Use Ai where it complements you, it isnt any different from the handheld calculators too many years ago, real creativity is what matters, it still cant be produced by Ai, it only produces more of the same and will for the foreseeable future. Heck, its JUST automation, it aint no different from 25 years ago or any of the IT waves since then although many like to believe. You still need creators, artists. Just think of what the old generation creators thought when people like you came onto the scene. Been there 3 or 4 times before. It only changes for the ones stuck in the past. And be honest to yourself. Share as much about YOUR challenges, obstacles you face, as you would share the results. A result without the journey of conquering obstacles is just a result, its the whole thing that makes it special. Just stay awesome :-)

There are some artists who I cannot support because Subscribestar does not take any of my credit cards. I tried several providers. Also, the customer service at Subscribestar is non-existent. They can't even be bothered to answer emails. That might somewhat explain why Subscribestar isn't really working for you. Cause from what I've read this isn't a problem that's exclusive to me.

Patreon rules are shit, especially for the kind of work you’re doing. As long as it’s a disembodied dick hanging out of a gloryhole, you’re going to be in the clear. But the moment that gate opens and a horse’s body is revealed… Patreon is gonna shut you down. Even if it’s a mythical being with a human torso, they call it bestiality. And those rules are never going to ease up, they’re only going to get worse. Patreon are cowards. Only a matter of time before they’ve completely censored/removed all manner of lewdness.

I am personally content to wait as long as needed for you to do whatever work you've got going at any given time. If you can find the right people to help than sure, hiring a crew would make sense. DO NOT GO THE AI ROUTE! Regardless of what anyone else says, at the moment almost all of the AI-verse's iterations actively steal from other artists to do their work and since you would effectively be selling the result, there is a greater-than-zero chance that you could be exposing yourself to some kind of legal liability that way. AI can and will do some amazing things, but until it gets to a point of being commonplace, and protections exist to prevent IP issues, it is not a good idea. If you haven't considered it yet, a personal domain/website might be a good idea, that way YOU can decide what the paywall looks like, how it operates, AND control the content fully without having to worry about the obnoxious rules and algorithms of someone else's platform. Won't lie though, that might not be super cheap. Can't say for sure. Just my thoughts.

I have to admit, never heard of Subscribestar. I also don't know the rules of Patreon vs. Subscribestar. I mean, if what another commenter said is true and Patreon is making you hold back while Subscribestar will let you go wild, I could see myself making the jump. It's just, again, never even heard of that.

I think AI is the future so it might be better for you to get interested in it, see how to work with it and maybe even find a code of ethics in it. (Everyone will have to find it anyway this code of ethics)

2026-09-05 12:00 I personally prefer Patreon due to it's interface and App. SubscribeStar really lacks in User Experience. AI would be good for one off stuff or to play around with. Give AUTOMIC1111 / Unstable Diffusion Webui a try, it's free to download from GitHub and civiai has a ton of free models and nets to use. It takes some learning, but it's fun to tinker with.
