It was a late Friday night, Kaleel was finishing up her patrol downtown, driving her police cruiser around the blocks as per usual. There was very little activity in the neighborhood at this time of night, all the more reason to patrol to keep it that way. With her shift almost over, she would be home free in just a few minutes. Kaleel’s height was pretty average for woman her age, and she always wore her goldish brown hair back so it wouldn’t get in her eyes while on duty. Even though she had been working in law enforcement for years, she looked more like a model in police attire.
Though she had plenty of coffee to keep herself awake, he was still getting very late, and the policewoman just wanted to go home and lay down on her couch, maybe scroll some tik-toks before heading to bed. Just as she was turning down the next block, she heard a woman's terrified scream echo throughout the block. This was enough to wake her up completely as her training kicked in, opening her eyes wide open just in time to catch a glimpse of something bright and red shining in her cruiser headlights, peeking just behind one of the buildings. Before she could get a good look, it disappeared into one of the alleyways, as yet another shriek could be heard directly from that direction. Immediately beeping her siren, Kaleel called in for backup before jumping out of the vehicle and heading directly toward the alleyway.
The police officer knew that would be risky on her own, but now wasn't the time to wait for backup. “Help!” the screaming voice called out, echoing between the two tall neighboring buildings as Kaleel finally entered the alley. The officer stepped in just in time to see the rounded, shadowy, silhouette disappearing behind the corner as yet another cry for help echoed throughout the alley, sounding just as panicked as before, along with the rattling of offense. Finally running past the corner, she pulled out her gun. But before she could shout freeze, she was met face-to-face with a large red, shiny orb floating towards a young woman who was attempting to scale the fence blocking her out of the alley.
In her panic, the woman kept slipping and fumbling about the fence as her shoes clattered to the ground, looking back as she saw the police officer, still wide-eyed and dumbfounded with her gun pointed directly at the orb. “H-Help! shoot it!” the woman shrieked, the ball now looming only inches away from her. Without a moment of hesitation, the policewoman fired her weapon at the ball. But on contact, the ball simply indented, the bullet sinking into its surface like it was a ball of dough. The policewoman gasped right as the ball bounced back to its original shape, flinging the bullet directly back at her as it collided with her firearm, knocking the gun out of her hand.
“AH!” Kaleel stumbled as the gun shattered in her hands, the pieces clattering to the ground as she held her hands to her stomach. Though fortunately not injured, her hands stung from the force of the impact. turning her attention back to the ball, it appeared to wobble and jiggle in the air as it became Stationary, no longer pursuing the civilian who took the opportunity to finally scale the fence, hopping over it as she ran to safety. Putting her flashlight back toward the orb, she could now get a better look at what she was dealing with, a large crimson seamless balloon. At least that's what it appeared to be, as her firearm didn't even damage its surface, it should have popped or torn it open at the very least.
Whenever it was, it was now floating in her direction. Unamused, the officer took out her baton, though wary of the rubber sphere as she took a couple of steps back. The orb then slowly picked up speed as she backed away getting closer and closer until it was face to face with her. Swinging her baton at the balloon, Kaleel tried to smack it away to put some distance between them, but her stick only sank into its surface with a loud creak. Just like with the bullet, it completely absorbed the impact and didn't budge an inch. Just as she was about to take another swing at the balloon, the baton suddenly sank deeper into the surface, the rubber surface squeaking loudly as began to twist and pull around the weapon. Before the rubber could pull around her hand she quickly let go of the baton, watching in shock as the balloon continued to swallow it up. Just like that, the baton disappeared into the rubber completely, as the balloon swiftly sprung back to its perfectly rounded shape.
