Kenway Compound — Main Residence — Konohagakure

Two days passed.

For everyone else inside the Kenway Compound, those two days were measured in ordinary things.

Meals were prepared. Training continued in controlled portions of the compound. Naruto came and went whenever his responsibilities allowed it, Sasuke spent long stretches either training or studying, and Minato resumed enough of his usual routine that the presence of two resurrected founders of the Uchiha Clan eventually stopped forcing him to reassess the security barrier every time he entered a room.

For Madara and Izuna, the experience had been considerably stranger.

Izuna adapted to blindness with the same stubborn efficiency he seemed to apply to everything else. The chakra pulses he used to map his surroundings became more precise each time Minato or Haku saw him employ them, and by the end of the second day he could navigate most of the guest wing, several corridors, the eastern garden, and the route toward the main residence without asking anyone to guide him.

Madara adjusted to other things.

Running water no longer surprised him every time he turned a handle.

He had learned what the toilet did.

He had also determined that toothpaste was useful, conditioner was unnecessary but tolerable, and lotion remained an affront to a civilization that apparently possessed too much free time.

None of those discoveries were discussed.

The greatest adjustment, however, had nothing to do with the house.

It was learning how to exist around people who knew exactly who he was and nevertheless continued living their lives.

Nobody had forgotten his history.

Haku remained observant whenever Madara entered a room, and Itachi never completely stopped tracking his position. Sasuke's caution remained obvious, while Minato treated every interaction with the calm courtesy of someone who understood perfectly well how quickly circumstances could turn violent.

Kushina, on the other hand, had decided that accepting Madara and Izuna as temporary residents came with one non-negotiable rule.

Meals were eaten together.

Madara had initially declined.

Kushina had informed him that food would be served in the dining room.

He had pointed out that he was fully capable of eating elsewhere.

Kushina had calmly informed him that he could be fully capable of doing so after finishing dinner with everyone else.

Madara had stared at her for several seconds before appearing at the table that evening.

Nobody asked why.

By the second day, the arrangement had become routine enough to function while remaining too unnatural to become comfortable.

That evening was no different.

Kenway Compound — Dining Room

Madara sat at one side of the long table with Izuna beside him.

Across from them sat Itachi and Sasuke, while Haku occupied a place near the end where he could observe the room without appearing to make a point of doing so. Minato sat beside Kushina, and Naruto had been placed far enough from the serving dishes that Kushina could stop him from emptying something before everyone else had taken a portion.

The meal was well prepared… but the atmosphere was not.

The clink of utensils against ceramic seemed unusually noticeable whenever conversation faded.

Izuna had become accustomed to locating his plate, cup, and utensils through chakra pulses and memory. His movements were slower than they would have been with functioning eyes, though no longer hesitant. One hand remained close enough to the edge of the table to maintain a precise sense of position while the other handled his meal.

Madara ate quietly.

His passive chakra presence still rested over the room.

Nobody had asked him to suppress it, largely because Madara did not appear to be deliberately releasing anything. The pressure was simply part of him, a density accumulated through monstrous reserves, decades of combat, the Rinnegan, Hashirama's power once integrated into his body, and an existence that had spent far too long at the upper edge of shinobi history.

Naruto had gradually stopped shifting whenever the pressure became noticeable.

Sasuke had not.

His shoulders remained just slightly more rigid whenever Madara's attention crossed the table.

Kushina placed another serving dish down before returning to her seat. "You are all allowed to speak, dattebane."

Naruto looked at Kushina, who looked around the table.

Nobody immediately volunteered as Madara continued eating.

Izuna's mouth curved faintly. "This is better than everyone arguing."

Kushina gave him an appreciative nod. "Exactly."

Madara glanced toward his brother. "You have adjusted quickly."

Izuna located his tea.

"To eating?"

"To being surrounded by people you met two days ago."

Izuna lifted the cup carefully. "I spent my childhood surrounded by people who might die the following week. Becoming accustomed to people quickly was useful."

The answer diminished what little ease had entered the room.

Itachi's gaze lowered slightly, Sasuke glanced toward Izuna, while Madara said nothing.

The Warring States Period had conditioned both brothers in ways no amount of resurrection could simply erase.

Minato shifted the conversation without forcing it. "How is your spatial sensing progressing?"

Izuna angled his face toward him.

"Better…" He said before he released a faint chakra pulse, and the sensation moved through the table, floor, walls, and the bodies surrounding him before returning. "I can distinguish people more reliably now."

Naruto leaned forward slightly. "Without their chakra signatures?"

"With both."

Izuna considered the question.

"Chakra tells me who is present if I already recognize them. The returning pulse tells me where their body is positioned."

His head turned to the whiskered blonde.

"Naruto is leaning farther over the table than he was several moments ago."

Naruto immediately sat back.

Kushina looked toward her son.

Naruto cleared his throat. "I was listening."

Izuna smiled faintly.

Madara's Rinnegan followed his brother's chakra pulse as it dispersed.

The improvement over two days was substantial.

"You should refine the frequency," Madara said.

Izuna turned toward him.

"Too broad?"

"You are allowing too much chakra to scatter into useless surfaces."

Izuna considered it rather than reacting defensively.

"If you narrow the initial pulse, you will lose some peripheral awareness."

"And gain detail," Izuna raised a brow, but not in question, but in an understanding expression.

"Yes."

Izuna nodded once. "I will test it tomorrow."

Hearing this, Madara returned to his meal.

There was no further explanation… none was necessary.

Across the table, Sasuke watched the exchange with an expression he concealed poorly.

It was one of the first times he had seen Madara simply act like an older brother rather than the legendary figure buried beneath a century of mythology.

Haku noticed Sasuke observing but did not comment as the meal continued.

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

Eventually, Itachi looked toward the empty place farther down the table that nobody had deliberately reserved, though everyone had become conscious of its emptiness over the previous two days.

Alaric had promised to return.

Approximately two days.

Madara had remembered the wording precisely.

So had Izuna.

Madara had not asked whether anyone knew where Alaric had gone.

Haku would not have answered completely.

Minato did not know.

Itachi knew enough about Alaric to understand that asking usually produced an answer only when Alaric intended to provide one.

Izuna had been more direct.

He had asked that morning whether Alaric frequently disappeared.

Haku had answered yes.

When Izuna asked whether he usually returned when he said he would, Haku had paused before answering that Alaric generally returned close enough to the time promised that arguing over the difference was rarely productive.

Madara had found that answer irritating.

Now, as evening settled outside the compound and the second day neared its end, his attention briefly shifted toward the barrier surrounding the estate.

There was nothing… so he returned to his food.

Then the barrier changed.

Haku's chopsticks stopped before reaching his plate.

Itachi's eyes shifted toward the center of the room.

Minato felt the space distort an instant later.

Madara's Rinnegan snapped upward.

Izuna turned his head.

Platinum-gold light ignited several steps away from the dining table.

There was no preparatory chakra signature within the compound and no entry through the barrier. Space simply folded around a point that had not existed a heartbeat earlier, while brilliant energy spread outward without heat before collapsing back upon itself.

Despite this, nobody reached for a weapon.

Haku's posture changed, though he remained seated.

He recognized the chakra.

So did Minato.

Madara felt it more deeply than either of them.

The presence emerging from the light belonged to the man who had fought him across the Land of Frost, dragged him into a dimension of impossible fire, broken the Ten-Tails away from him, sealed that creature inside himself, and then resurrected Izuna because Madara asked.

The light vanished before Alaric Jonathan Kenway stood in its place.

He wore clean black clothing rather than the destroyed Vanguard uniform Madara last remembered, while his posture showed no residual evidence that he had recently survived enough violence to kill almost anyone else many times over.

His blue eyes moved across the table.

Madara.

Izuna.

Haku.

Itachi.

Sasuke.

Naruto.

Minato.

Kushina.

Then the food.

Alaric raised one eyebrow. "Did I interrupt dinner?"

Nobody answered immediately.

Kushina recovered first. "You arrived during it."

"Oh… okay," Alaric nodded as though that clarified everything. "Good timing, then."

Despite the casual tone, nobody treated his appearance casually.

Haku rose first. "Sensei."

The respect in the word was quiet and natural.

Itachi followed by inclining his head. "Alaric."

Minato's shoulders relaxed, though his attention immediately moved across Alaric's body as though checking whether the man had returned in another ruined set of clothing.

Naruto visibly brightened.

Sasuke remained seated, but some of the tension that had been present since Madara arrived eased.

Madara simply stared.

Alaric's chakra felt different.

Not dramatically enough that an ordinary sensor would necessarily understand what had changed, yet Madara had fought him at close range while the incomplete Ten-Tails still existed outside his body.

Now that creature was inside him.

The difference remained buried beneath Alaric's absurd control, restrained so completely that the room did not feel the presence of a jinchūriki unless someone already knew what to search for.

Madara knew.

For a moment, his Rinnegan sharpened.

Alaric noticed and gave Madara a faint look acknowledging the inspection but said nothing.

"Come," Kushina gestured toward the empty seat. "Sit."

Alaric looked at Kushina as she held his gaze.

He glanced toward everyone already eating… then toward the chair. "Right."

He sat.

Madara watched this happen with considerably more interest than the action deserved.

The man who had subdued the Ten-Tails obeyed Kushina Uzumaki's dinner instruction without argument.

That knowledge joined the increasingly confusing collection of information Madara had gathered about Alaric over two days.

Kushina placed a plate before him. "You ate?"

Alaric looked down. "Recently."

"That was not the question."

'I was too busy with Kassandra's enhancement and completely forgot eating,' Alaric inwardly before smiling. "No."

Kushina began serving him.

Alaric did not stop her.

Izuna listened to the exchange. "So this happens regularly."

Haku answered quietly from his seat.

"Yes."

Alaric glanced toward Izuna. "You're navigating better."

Izuna's head angled toward him.

"You noticed."

"Your chakra pulse is more controlled."

Madara's gaze sharpened slightly.

Alaric had recognized the adaptation immediately without needing an explanation.

Izuna rested one hand beside his cup. "I have had time."

Alaric's expression softened for a moment. "I won't keep you blind much longer."

The room changed.

Madara stopped eating.

Izuna became completely still.

Everyone else understood the meaning immediately.

Alaric had not returned merely because two days had elapsed.

He had returned with what he promised.

Madara placed his utensils down carefully.

"You found them."

Alaric looked toward him.

"Yes."

The answer was simple, but Madara studied him as though the word contained something more.

"Compatible?"

"I would like to think so."

"Stable?"

"Yes."

"Unaltered by another owner's degeneration?"

"No owner beforehand."

'No owner?' Madara raised a brow but didn't question that, though next question came more slowly. "Safe for Izuna?"

Alaric met his gaze. "Yes."

Madara remained silent.

The repeated certainty might have sounded arrogant from almost anyone else.

From Alaric, it carried a different weight.

He had already refused Madara's impulsive attempt to return his Rinnegan to Izuna because the transplant would have been biologically unsafe. He had explained the incompatibility rather than accepting a reckless solution merely because it was available.

That history mattered now.

Izuna turned his face toward Alaric.

"What exactly did you bring?"

Alaric leaned back slightly.

"A pair of physical Mangekyō Sharingan."

Sasuke's eyes widened.

Itachi's expression changed more subtly.

Madara's Rinnegan narrowed.

Izuna did not move.

"Physical," Itachi repeated.

Alaric looked toward him.

"Actual biological eyes. Not an illusion, projection, chakra construct, temporary replacement, or something that disappears when I stop maintaining it."

Haku listened without asking where they came from.

He knew better.

Madara did not. "Whose?"

Alaric's attention returned to him. "It's not what you think..."

Madara studied him.

Alaric continued before the question expanded. "They weren't harvested from someone walking around this world, if that's what you're wondering."

Itachi's gaze sharpened.

Sasuke looked between them.

Madara sensed the boundary in the answer.

Haku had shown him two days earlier exactly how disciplined someone close to Alaric could be around information Alaric did not want shared.

Madara chose not to press.

For now.

Izuna lifted one hand toward the empty place beneath his eyelids but stopped before touching it.

"What abilities?"

"Hm…" Alaric's expression shifted. "Unknown until they're properly integrated and examined."

Izuna frowned slightly.

"You brought me Mangekyō Sharingan and do not know their abilities."

"I know the eyes are structurally sound, biologically viable, and compatible with the transplant procedure I have planned…" Alaric's voice remained measured. "I'm not going to make claims about ocular abilities until they're connected to you and I can verify how your chakra interacts with them."

Madara nodded faintly.

That answer satisfied him more than false certainty would have.

Izuna leaned back. "And afterward?"

"We make sure your optic nerves, chakra pathways, and ocular network are fully restored."

Alaric took a small portion of food from the plate Kushina had placed before him.

"I'll monitor rejection, chakra pressure, blood flow, neurological response, and whatever happens when your Uchiha chakra reaches the Mangekyō."

Izuna's mouth tightened faintly. "You make it sound routine."

"For me, the surgery is straightforward," Alaric chewed before answering. 'Would I even call it a surgery? I mean, I'm not even going to cut something…'

Madara's gaze hardened.

Alaric noticed immediately and continued in a more serious tone. "That does not mean I intend to treat your eyes casually."

The distinction mattered.

Madara's posture eased by a fraction.

Alaric looked toward Izuna.

"You were resurrected using your original body. The orbital tissue, optic nerves, chakra pathways, and biological structures that once supported your Sharingan are yours. That gives me a cleaner foundation than trying to place them into an unrelated body."

Itachi became more attentive.

"What about ocular chakra incompatibility?"

"Manageable."

Alaric turned slightly toward him.

"The transplanted eyes have their own established structure, but the Uchiha ocular network is responsive to the host's chakra. My job is to make the transition stable rather than simply forcing the tissue into place."

Sasuke's gaze shifted toward Madara.

The history was obvious.

Madara's Eternal Mangekyō had existed because Izuna's eyes became integrated with Madara.

Now Izuna was preparing to receive eyes from somewhere none of them could identify.

Izuna appeared more interested in another question.

"Will I be able to see immediately?"

Alaric considered it. "Probably."

Izuna's eyebrow shifted beneath his closed eyelids. "Probably."

"I expect vision to return immediately once the nerves and chakra pathways are properly connected."

Alaric set his chopsticks down. "But I may deliberately suppress the Mangekyō state at first."

Madara nodded before anyone else could ask. "So his brain adjusts to ordinary sight before the ocular chakra surges."

"Exactly."

Izuna tilted his head.

"After being blind for two days, you are concerned I will be overwhelmed by sight."

"Not ordinary sight," Alaric's attention focused on him. "Mangekyō-level perception entering a nervous system that has spent two days compensating through chakra pulses."

Izuna considered that.

Alaric continued, "Your brain is already adapting to the absence of visual input. I'd rather restore ordinary vision first, let your sensory processing stabilize, then allow you to activate the Sharingan deliberately."

Madara's expression showed quiet approval.

Itachi nodded faintly.

Sasuke understood the logic immediately.

Alaric was not merely replacing eyes.

He was controlling the transition between two sensory systems.

Izuna rested his hands against his knees.

"When?"

Alaric looked toward Kushina.

She was still serving food.

Kushina noticed.

"No."

Alaric blinked.

"I didn't say anything."

"You just returned, you haven't eaten, and you are already thinking about performing eye surgery at the dinner table."

"I wasn't going to do it at the table."

"That's not the point..."

Alaric looked toward Izuna, who remained remained silent.

Madara did not intervene.

"Sure," Alaric looked back toward Kushina. "After dinner."

Kushina considered him.

"After you finish eating."

Alaric nodded. "That's reasonable."

The agreement ended there.

No one laughed.

The room had become too aware of what waited afterward.

For Izuna, two days of blindness were about to end.

For Madara, the promise that had convinced him to enter Alaric's strange household was about to become something tangible.

For Itachi and Sasuke, the procedure touched directly upon one of the most intimate and dangerous aspects of Uchiha history.

The Sharingan was never merely an organ.

Eyes had been stolen for power, exchanged between brothers, collected by Danzō, manipulated by Obito, used as keys to techniques capable of altering nations.

Madara himself had built one of the greatest transformations in Uchiha history through his brother's eyes.

Alaric appeared to understand the weight of that history while refusing to become reverent toward it.

To him, an eye remained something that could be repaired, replaced, stabilized, or improved if necessary.

The perspective was unsettling, but it was also why Izuna was alive.

Dinner then resumed.

The awkwardness remained, but it had changed.

Madara no longer watched Alaric merely because of what he could do.

After speaking with Haku, seeing Minato and Kushina alive, and spending two days inside a house built around consequences Alaric had altered, Madara had begun watching him for another reason.

He was trying to understand how the man thought.

Alaric ate calmly.

Eventually, Naruto looked toward him. "Are the eyes here?"

Alaric nodded.

"Can we see them?"

Kushina gave Naruto a look before Alaric could answer.

Naruto straightened.

Alaric waited until he had swallowed. "They're sealed."

His fingers moved toward his shoulder.

Madara's Rinnegan followed the motion.

Alaric touched the storage tattoo.

A faint sealing pattern spread outward beneath his shirt before contracting again.

Then a small sterile container appeared in his hand.

Nobody moved.

Inside, suspended within a clear preservation medium, rested two eyes.

Even before they were activated, the chakra within them was unmistakable.

Uchiha.

Sasuke's Sharingan appeared involuntarily, while Itachi's followed a heartbeat later.

Madara's entire attention fixed upon the container.

Izuna could not see what everyone else saw, but he did not need to.

The moment the eyes entered the room, his chakra perception found them.

His head turned precisely toward Alaric's hand.

The response was immediate.

A familiar resonance spread through the part of Izuna's chakra network that once connected to his own Sharingan.

He inhaled slowly.

Madara noticed.

"So you can feel them."

Izuna's voice was quieter than before. "Yes."

Alaric watched the reaction carefully.

The resonance itself was promising.

No violent rejection nor chaotic ocular response.

Nothing suggesting Izuna's chakra treated the eyes as foreign in the way an ordinary non-Uchiha transplant might.

Alaric resealed the container before the exposed ocular chakra could continue stimulating Izuna's pathways unnecessarily.

The sterile vessel disappeared back into storage.

Izuna remained facing him.

Madara's gaze followed the vanished container.

Alaric rested one hand on the table. "I told you I'd come back with eyes."

Madara looked at him.

The legendary Uchiha remained quiet for several seconds before inclining his head.

There was no sarcasm in the gesture, and neither was there any suspicion… only acknowledgment.

"You kept your word."

Alaric's expression softened slightly. "I usually try to."

Izuna's hand lifted once more toward the empty sockets beneath his closed eyelids.

For two days, darkness had been his entire world.

Within the hour, if everything proceeded as Alaric expected, that darkness would end.
