NEW SHOW ALERT!!

We are finally starting Attack on Titan and I just have one thing to say: WTF?!? Why do they look like that?? But god I can already tell that this show is going to be spectacular and I need to know who came up with this story and how. What were they doing? What drugs were they on?

Eroll

Didn't care to watch the show back then so it will be great to discover it here

R McBean

Lol I forgot how much more of a little shit Eren was in the early episodes. This will be a great time

Idk why the translated title is Attack ON Titan. The Japanese is “Shingeki no kyojin”, shingeki meaning attack/advance, kyojin being titan, and “no” indicating that the first word is the qualifier/adjective to the second word. So it’s more like “Attack Titan” or “Titan of Attack”. *Maybe* they translated it that way because the Japanese title is also odd; the more obvious title would be “Kyojin no Shingeki” instead of “Shingeki no Kyojin”—“Attack of the Titans” makes way more sense than “Titan of Attack”. So maybe they were trying to make the english title equally grammatically odd, but went too far and just made it grammatically incorrect 😂

Finally, this is my favorite anime!!!!

the sound design/mixing of the sub is better. As you would expect from the original source. This is me, crying about it. Dubs will never not be a sin.

BoringGuy

There is literally nothing wrong with watching dub. Back in the day it was really bad and a cause for the outrage against it but with how popular the media has become it’s come along way. Dub is great for people who have dyslexia, or visual impairments to smaller text. On top of that if it gets people to watch and support the creators/media then to anyone complaining womp womp.🤷

I was wondering if those captions were of importance. I tried reading them but my eyes kept getting screwed with each time. I’ll pause and read moving forward lol

GINA

We shall go on this journey together!

GINA

lol I loved the breakdown and analysis of this 😂

GINA

Just another sin to add to my list, I suppose

BoringGuy

Also fuck did I even watch this show holy forshadowing

Jav

Someone else that feels the same about sub versions 🥹

These are beloved: Cowboy Bebop (90s), DB and DBZ (90s), Pokemon (90s), Sailor Moon (90s), Ranma 1/2 (90s), Yu Yu Hakusho (00s), Neon Genesis (90s), Akira (90s), Ghost in the Shell (90s), Digimon (90s). It comes down to the studio and actors doing the dub. Yūki Kaji vs Bryce Papenbrook not even close. The dub is like a really good cosplay: impressive, respectable, and faithful in many ways, but it’s still not the real thing. If you're after raw emotional intensity, ideological nuance, and perfectly blended sound, the sub is the way to go. The dub? Great for convenience, but expect a little lost in translation. boi-yoing! (or w/e we're doing at the end of messages)

BoringGuy

That’s very true there are some loss in translation but the same could be said for manga to anime adaptation in terms of the execution. There are many anime that are slightly or drastically different interpretations. Some themes that are lost or chapters moved around that aren’t the raw faithful adaptations. Like I said if it gets people to watch then all the more reason to have it. Dub and sub are both good equally it just depends on what you want. It’s just fun to see that anime is well received now.

Skellyp

Personally, i think the English translation may have been intended to be misleading. who knows?

Skellyp

I'm here for the AoT. also, you may potentially want a mod or someone to filter comments for you just incase anyone tries to spoil or accidently spoil. but i cant wait to watch the series again with you. already in these first 2 episodes you had some jokes i haven't heard before. this will be fun!

GINA

If someone spoils anything in my comment section I’m sending them to purgatory

Skellyp

skip purgatory, straight to hell with em!

EVO Smokey

I understand your reasoning for wanting to watch dub so you can pay more attention to details, but I promise you you'll miss out on some very VERY fking cool and chilling moments from the sub version, the VA's are extremely talented and dub just doesn't compare to the original, they change the entire mood for some scenes. (yea this is me crying about it mb)

EVO Smokey

this is coming from a guy who has watched AOT 3 times in sub and once in dub for what it's worth
