THEY RODE A WORM!!!!

I honestly didn't think I would like this movie as much as I did but HELL YEAH! I'm not complaining. If I didn't like this I would've questioned so many things about myself because I feel like it's practically law that if you like fantasy, you're going to like this movie. THIS SHIT FUCKED!

I am still very confused as to how tall Baron or whatever is. His floating magic trick hurt my brain. Is he 3 feet tall? 5? 8? I NEED ANSWERS.

Also I loved all 8 of Zendaya's lines in this movie. She really killed that shit.

Oooh! Really excited to watch your reaction to this when I get home from work. An amazing cinematic experience and the world building is soooo intentionally vague.

GINA

This was definitely supposed to go up tomorrow but I scheduled it incorrectly so enjoy the early post!

Fritz

"TITTY FUCKER! But not in a good way."

As good as this movie is, part 2 is sooooo much better. Is it too early to cast my vote for Dune Part II in the next poll? LOL

GINA

I’m SO EXCITED FOR PART 2. I need it voted in RIGHT FUCKING NOW

GINA

And I meant it!

This was awesome! The creators of Star Wars and Game of Thrones both took a lot of inspiration from Dune. To answer your question, that gaping hole in space was a space ship owned by the "spacing guild" also known as "the navigators." Basically the spacing guild controls interstellar travel, so if you want to move your army across the galaxy you've got to pay the spacing guild a lot of money. I'm unsure though if it's a giant ship or a portal that would transport smaller ships. About the visions that Paul has, some are literal like the one with Duncan, but some are more metaphors and open to interpretation. So in Paul's vision he saw Jamis teaching him the ways of the desert. In a way Jamis did teach Paul the ways of the desert, the fighting ways of the desert. Baron Harkonnen is played by Stellan Skarsgard who you recognized from Chernobyl. His son Alexander Skarsgard is Murderbot. Also one of the Harkonnen advisors was one of the scientists in Murderbot too. So that's a fun connection.

Dune part 1 is the setup, Dune Part Two is where the real meat and potatoes are at. You’re gonna love it!

Fritz

I'd say, fuck them kids. Don't put it up to a vote. Just watch Part 2.

Rachel

The baron isn't very tall just very very fat. He uses the same floating tech that the soldiers use but he uses it to get around because he is too fat to walk.

Toby Young

Bro you gotta watch part 2. The two movies make up the first book. Watch it expeditiously

Toby Young

Baron Harkonnen’s actor is the guy in the first avengers/first Thor

Bayou Chaoui

Tbh I also fell asleep the first two times I tried watching this movie, but that has NOTHING to do with the fact that I started it at like 2am both times... Not at all.

Joe Porter

Btw part 1 is just half the story. Part 1 and 2 both make up the first Dune book which is a complete story in itself

Bayou Chaoui

Oh also the original Dune book series is comprised of 6 books actually, though the entire series consists of 23 books lol

R McBean

Gina al-Gaib!

I never knew why I wasn't into this film beyond just being tired of the same actors in everything. But on this viewing I think I realized it's the way they do exposition. Could totally be just me but I felt like most of the information was kinda forced. For example, why would Josh tell Timothy (I ain't remembering character names if the film wants me to just care that my "fav" actor is back again) that "the slow blade penetrates the shield"? He is like a week out from going to Arrakis and this guy knows his skills already. Only reason to say that was talking to the audience. Idk, the main thing is the spaming of popular actors to exhaustion but I feel like there are a bunch of those very blunt exposition moments that a better writer/director could've made feel much more natural.

Just started the sixth Dune book, been loving the series. The first one is certainly big but I didn’t find it too dense or difficult, especially after seeing the movies. Highly recommend if you ever get the time! Very glad to have subtitles I cannot understand Rebecca Ferguson half the time in this! There’s more Zendaya in part 2, looking forward to it!

ducky

yes only 6 books by the original author
