Someone better start giving me all the BTS on this movie.

Who came up with the idea? How? Why? What was the budget? The initial reaction when it was released? I must know EVERYTHING

Yay! Hope you like it. Perfect thing to watch while feeling sick. To answer some of your questions in the text. 1. The members of Monty Python 2. Their brains just work that way. 3. Why not? 4. About £3,50 5. By that time they had a TV show for a few years so this wasn't out of the ordinary for the British.

I spent 8 years as a kid in england and even at that age I found this shit so funny. So many good bits

LOL. I love this movie. I had a friend watch this when we were in high school and he went crazy at the end, not believing that was how it really ended.

Too bad it didn't quite click with you. All of their 3 movies are in my top 10 comedies of all time. Some fun facts/trivia. Monty Python is a group of 6 British comedians. They were founded in 1969 and disbanded in 1989. They all played most parts in this movie, 2 of them also directed it and they all write jokes. Those 6 were about 80% of all male speaking parts. In future movies also most female speaking parts. Before this, they had a very successful skit show on the BBC and they are widely regarded as the most influencial comedy groups of all time. A lot of what we call British humor these days was directly influenced by them. All of their movies are low budget, especially since they deal with sometimes dicey subjects (for the time). For their second movie which plays during the time of Jesus, nobody wanted to give them 2 million pounds bc they were afraid of the church, so one of the Beatles (the band) mortgaged his house and bankrolled the entire movie bc he liked the script and wanted to see it. This movie is extremely beloved, regularly voted in the Top 10 funniest movies. A ton of Comedians and filmmakers credit them including the makers of South Park. On Letterboxd it's #472 of all movies with over a million logs and sits at 4.1 which in my humble opinion is too low, but humor is very subjective. If you want to watch some skits from their show, Fish slapping dance or the ministry of silly walks would be a good start.

There is an enchanter throwing fire, multiple monsters including a rabbit that bites the heads of people. Sounds pretty fantastical to me. Also multiple coconuts in Mercia. That can't be. Their are tropical.

Monty Python was a famous British comedy troop known for their comedy skit show Monty Python's Flying Circus. If you watch it again you will notice that nearly all the main people in every scene are the same six people. Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin are legends. Michael Palin plays twelve people in this film. There is so much background lore to this film. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Genesis all contributed to the funding of making this film, purely out of love for the acting troop and their humor. The reason for the use of coconut halves in place of horses is doubly hilarious because it is actually how horses were foleyed in radio and TV forever, but additionally because the bit came out of the fact that they couldn't afford real horses and so decided to do what would be normal in stage acting, but to make the coconuts diegetic. Through the entire "she's a witch!" sequence they had been told not to laugh, but kept breaking character. Terry Gilliam in particular can be seen biting the scythe he is holding, this is him struggling to hold in his laughter. Monty Python is very British, and to the uninitiated the ending of this film may seem absurd. (To be fair it is absurd, but it is also perfectly expected from these guys) You may also enjoy some of their other films, The Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life are particularly famous.

Fun fact. You can generate the killer bunny in Minecraft with admin commands. Fairly certain it doesn't exists naturally in the game though.

Tom G

Fun fact: the coding language Python is actually named after Monty Python...on second thought, maybe that's just a fact.

Toby Young

Gina, can’t help but notice you haven’t boxd this yet…

R McBean

You want to know something wild? Despite how absurd everything about this movie is, it is considered to have some of the most historically accurate medieval costuming ever in film!

Eric

Well..... congratulations to the people that wanted to watch this movie, I guess.

Leenis

This is one of the most quoted movies. It gets funnier the more you watch it.

Camron

Brand new here. Really enjoyed the demeaning that we started this one off with.

DWood

Definitely not my humor, but I see how this must be watched. You don’t know until you know.

Eroll

It felt, so long ._.

Yimmy Yurner

… So I watched Puss in Boots 2 and thought of you, Gina! You’re gonna love it

Rey

Haha yes plus we do have to be creative when coming up with movies for some genres too other wise we would run through movies quick

Russell Kellner

Originally the script had a huge battle at the end but they ran out of money so that's why the movie ends so abruptly

Thomas Blake

maybe it was just a prank ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

kjalle

Just a bit of horsing around
