What Itachi did was more than preventing a war. He also saved the reputation of the whole Uchiha clan. Imagine what people would come across Uchiha as if the truth had been revealed? A shameless clan that started a war against the village and the whole nation? Everyone would hate the Uchiha more. He took all the hate and tried to make Sasuke a hero. Could it have been done better? Probably. But considering Danzo was utilizing his conflicting inner him, I donā€™t blame him.

The issue was fear, the Uchiha clan was always seen like a potential menace to the existence of the Leaf village because of the potential of the Sharingan. And that same fear is the reason of the discriminations and attempt of controlling them, ultimately leading to the Uchiha trying a coup d'Ć©tat. Also, think it's fair to say that the clan seems peaceful to hide their intentions, but also because their intentions weren't to "eradicate" the leaf village, but to take control, to liberate themselves, I don't think they were evil nor they had evil intentions, just ordinary folks that were antagonized to a point that they thought it was the only way.

I like when he has time to ruminate and think about things a bit more on his own time. This episode is hard because pausing it throughout breaks up the flow, but it's also difficult to remember all the pieces at the end when reflecting.

Danzo cornered itachi into doing it, he long planned for it. Itachi didnt have much options left once shisui was gone, before all that maybe but if you read the light novel it was a pretty bleak situation towards the end since fighting was inevitable

So hard to just see the Itachi thing in black and white when there are so many aspects to the Uchiha and Hidden leaf. Itachi literally had to choose his clan or his village and regardless it was gonna be a lose lose, but Itachi saved not only the hidden leaf leadership but possibly tons of innocent lives from a war that could've broken out. The Uchiha were segregated and discriminated against which is why they wanted the coup d'Ć©tat. Yes tons of innocent Uchiha clan members died, but Itachi knew it was the only way peace could be kept between the nations. I thought Itachi would be instantly put on the top of Dad's favorite characters but I was wrong.

I am concerned. Although he wants to be less black and white, he's never really asked why the foundation is the way they are. That is where the narrow view of the hate cycle comes into play though, and that kinda makes me concerned, especially when religious Christian folks tend to sway towards black & white labelling for their evil and good classification, despite Cheist himself was a revolutionary socialist who condemned and disrupted these deep state organizations and inhuman practices adn discrimination. He says Itachi could've done differently, and hence he is still deemed evil in his book, but that's not how forgiveness and redemption works either. So, I wish he'd allow himself to acknowledge the nuances and complications in the things here, instead of falling into the temptation to deem something as inherently evil, or atleast treating it/them as such.

I think the reason Itachi didn't want him to meet Madara was so that he wouldn't know the truth and land on the conclusion he ultimately lands on to destroy the leaf. I think he hoped he would have returned to the leaf after fulfilling his goal.

I second that; I know it must be hard knowing what we all WANT to hear from him so I think sheā€™s just looking out for the fans. But just making pops think twice about everything does tend to spoil the realm of possibilities in a sense.

I'd explain to your dad that Itachi had no choice in the massacre. If Itachi said no, the leaders would have killed everyone in the Uchiha clan, including Sasuke. So to save Sasuke and the pride of his clan, he had to go through with the massacre. There truly was "no other way" for him to take, the foundation and the leaders had already made up their mind on the Uchiha, and the Uchiha were not going to budge on the planned Coup. Of course there's more detail to come in the final war arch, but man, I love the flip on Itachi when people watch these episodes.

Now that he knows the truth, I highly recommend the Itachi Light Novels. There are still more layers to the story. And the real villain of the tragedy of Itachi and even how Naruto was treated are adressed in these Light Novels.
