Sadly I am unable to download any direct APK link for Android like this one, only APK files to install manually gives me no problems

You don't download the link. Click it and it brings you to a zipped folder which contains all the files that you need to be downloaded and installed :)

I can download and open the file on my MAC but can't get past the Adult Warning screen; the next screen is an "Exception has occurred" window.

That error tends to happen when you use a previous save. When a new update launches, you need to hit New Game and use the chapter select feature and jump ahead to the new content. Annoying I know, but it's the limitations of Renpy and the nature of doing episodic releases.
