Steins;Gate is actually a visual novel, it’s just that the alternate routes don’t have any impact on the main ending so it was probably a lot easier to adapt. Hayashi actually wrote Steins;Gate only a year after writing Chaos;Head. It’s crazy how much he improved within that timeframe

ShadowDog Productions

Agreed, this is a better show. But that makes for a crappy novel if your choices don't matter to the ending IMO

Jonah

Oh I meant that you can still get alternate endings, it’s just that the ones in Chaos;Head add to the context and themes of the “true ending”, whereas the ones in Steins;Gate ones are just what if scenarios. I do think though that the other routes were kinda tacked on because it’s “what visual novels are supposed to do”

Ariel

I included watching Steins Gate 0 which put this show in tier 1-C, otherwise it would have been 1-B I think- I don’t think it’s as good as this one, but still worth watching IMO. The only thing is that there is also an alternate version of episode 23 (the one you watched in this video) with an alternate ending that you should watch first that sets you up for SG0- it’s known as Steins Gate episode 23 Beta- if you can’t find it anywhere else, it’s on YouTube last I checked, that’s how I watched it (even though I was watching in dub wheni first watched, it is in Japanese, but it was the only version I could find)

Ariel

I haven’t watched the movie- I just looked it up, and from the description it’s not canon, but maybe worth a watch if you’re a fan of the Okabe/Kurisu dynamic, it seems she gets a lot of the focus in it

Jonah

The Steins;Gate movie is actually canon. It was created by the original team who made the visual novel, and is a story that they really wanted to tell. Steins;Gate is only the second entry in the overarching Science Adventure series, so some of the concepts might not line up until you experience all the other installments (I.e. world layers and load regions from Anonymous;Code and the Committee of 300 from Chaos;Head)

Jonah

I think maybe why you didn’t enjoy Steins;Gate 0 as much is because it’s intended to be a sequel/finale to the Steins;Gate 0 visual novel. A lot of character development/context is lost if you just watch the anime, which is an interesting decision by the show runners

Ariel

I did enjoy it, but it felt messier and a little harder to follow- but I understand that they were probably taking multiple elements from different routes in the visual novel and putting them all together in one story and couldn’t include all of the context
