Maomao is very small and tends to be underweight, so Jinshi was in fact asking if she had gained some weight back- I’m guessing her months taking care of Lihua took a toll on her, so when she was done, everyone shoved extra food at her to get her looking “healthy” again (and of course she shared some of that extra food with her gossip buddy)

We also found out what happened with the aphrodisiac she made in episode 2- to extrapolate from the story her buddy told her, a military officer known for “hating women” was the one who gave Jinshi the aphrodisiac laced buns, so he gave the aphrodisiac that Maomao made to a court lady to use to seduce that officer lol

Also, I think you hate Jinshi a lot more than Maomao does lol- not that he hasn’t been a bit creepy and obviously disregarding of personal space/boundaries- but I think what Maomao has found disgusting/gross is that she can smell “fake attention with manipulative intent” from miles away (having grown up around brothels and witnessing that first hand), and that is certainly how his attention started out. I think he likes that she doesn’t just fawn over him because of his looks like most other women, and she could tell that he was being genuine/real with her after she explained why she puts on freckles and that she was kidnapped- and that he was genuinely concerned after tasting the poison at the party- he dragged her to the infirmary and made her vomit to ensure that she got it all out of her system, especially since a minister saw her “enraptured” face at tasting it and thought the soup must be delicious and ate it himself and got very sick lol

So, we learned a lot at the garden party- like Lishu was first a concubine to the previous emperor at 9 years old. Sure, concubines could be brought in very young for political reasons (and likely weren’t actually “touched” until they were mature enough to bear children), but given how young the empress dowager was when she gave birth to the emperor (they didn’t say it out loud, but I’ve heard from source material readers that she was apparently 10), the previous emperor had very young “tastes”

We also learned that the emperor has a younger brother- who is rumored to be sickly and barely leaves his room and rarely seen in public
