I think you mightve overlooked the fact Jinshi revealed his true identity right after his nightmare

Her solving of the shrine was really cool- but you might have missed (or you didn’t but just didn’t comment on it) that she solved it in the capacity of accompanying Jinshi (who we saw in the dream at the beginning is definitively the emperor’s brother- or son if Maomao’s baby swap speculation is right)- and if you couldn’t tell, it looks like the emperor ships them lol

Some of your subtitles seem a little off- like I’m pretty sure he didn’t call Maomao slow witted, and in the story of the founding of the nation, instead of Queen Wang Mu, she’s just referred to as the mother royal in most other versions and the dub- there might be some other issues, but I haven’t actually gotten to properly watch this yet, mostly listen as I was babysitting all day today lol

I will point out that Maomao could easily figure out who/what Jinshi really is, she seems to sense that he’s not just the eunuch who runs the rear palace, but she stops herself from ruminating on it not because she can’t figure it out, but because having that knowledge of what’s probably a secret of someone much higher up would be dangerous- as she said in her head- ignorance is bliss. We saw after his nightmare that he wants her to figure it out- I think he doesn’t want to tell her directly because she’s so status conscious that he’s afraid she’d distance herself because of her “lowly” status- even though she’s much higher than she wants to admit to/accept being Lakan’s daughter (which the emperor kept bringing up when it was insinuated he could take her as a concubine- that’s another slight translation difference in this version, usually the term concubine has been used rather than consort)

Also, I wanted to add a reminder that Jinshi is pretending to be 5 years older, which is at least one factor that has hindered Maomao from immediately jumping to the right conclusion about him (though we have seen her talk to herself about him acting immature/younger than he is supposed to be, so she could get there if she tried hard enough)

You hadn’t watched in a while, so I’ll also remind you that she was collecting lizards/lizard tails because she got the idea while talking to Jinshi that she could become rich if she figured out how to regrow/regenerate certain body parts that eunuchs are missing lol
