Everything changes from here. Not sure how I feel about that

Ariel

I think what we saw at the end of episode 23 was probably the guard finding Shisui in the bushes, the light reflecting off of the hairpin. She was shot twice, seemed like the first shot just got her arm, we saw blood trickle off of her fingers, then she kept dancing- the second shot hit her in the exact spot that Maomao placed the hair stick- if you look closely in the final scene where she’s trading it off, you can see an indentation left by the bullet

Ariel

From what I have gathered, the last scene with Maomao and Jinshi had a different tone in the source material- the anime made it more comical, but Maomao was about to cut her finger off not only for her experiment, but also because she was depressed- she was no longer in the rear palace, her friends were gone- Shisui and Xiaolan- and she hadn’t seen Jinshi in a long time (she did miss him). She was apparently feeling kind of numb, and was going to cut her finger so she could feel something- and Jinshi bit her to help bring her out of her “numb” state that he could tell she was in- another thing they left out of the adaptation, but when Kyou-u/Chou-u burst in interrupting them, Jinshi apparently made a comment of “I knew I should have had him executed” or something along those lines lol
