Remember, Remember, the 5th of November. Gunpowder, Treason and Plot!Had a little bit of trouble with the YT Edit version of this so I'm re-rendering it on our dodgy ol' laptop as we get some sleep so the YT Edit will be up in the morning, apologies for the delay on that one, but here is the Full Length Reaction to this thought provoking and beast of a movie. We loved it. Loved getting to think of the control that authority tries to apply, the resistance, the power of words and of ideas. A great movie with some great performances, I'm looking at you Hugo! (Lauren didn't know who that was 😅)But we hope you enjoy! The YT edit will be up in a few more hours time.Full Length, Un-edited Reaction for Feels Fanatics and above.Movie = Blurred and Muted after first section in order to synchronise your copy with us.You MUST own your own copy of the film to watch along.Else you just watch a blurred out box... 🤣P.s. Harry can never and will never condone the blowing up of Big Ben & The Houses of Parliament... 😅💖Lauren & Harry,Flix n Feels

I was THRILLED to see this pop up on my patreon feed. Seriously one of my favorite films (I'm aware that Alan Moore HATED this film adaption of his graphic novel, apparently he has hated EVERY SINGLE film adaption of his work.....so there's that....BTW, I also really like From Hell, another adaption of another of Moore's graphic novel about Jack the Ripper, and I'd LOVE to see ya'all watch that one too). There is so much about this film that is scarily predictive of where the UK is going right now (and let's be honest, there are people here in the states who WOULD do commit the same sort of tyranny here if they get the chance) and I worry about my friends in Great Britain quite a lot. I think it is great that Harry made the connection between the similarities of the book 1984 and the circumstances portrayed on screen. I don't know if you are aware, but John Hurt who plays the high chancellor, played winston smith (the main character) IN a film adaption OF 1984. One of the things that DOES annoy me about the film is that there is a LOT of information regarding the time that the film is set in that is actually contradictory. The truth is, I'm not sure when it is SUPPOSED to be. Dates from 2025 to 2028 to 2034 to 2038 have all been suggested based on certain clues contained IN the film: timeline stolen from reddit (I'm not sorry, not sorry at all....) TIMELINE DATE EVENT TIMESTAMP 1985 Valerie Page is born. 1:13:15 2001 Evey's brother Robert Hammond is born. 16:04 2003 Evey Hammond is born. 16:04 ST. MARY'S OUTBREAK 5 May 2014 St. Mary's outbreak occurs. 1:31:29 6 May 2014 William Rockwood goes missing. Two other black baggers die the same day. 1:31:29 2 August 2014 Evey's brother dies from St. Mary's outbreak (16:04). His death prompts parents to "become political." 41:35 2014 Sutler is elected Prime Minister by a landslide the same year as St. Mary's. Although unclear exactly when, Sutler has broken away from the conservative party to form Norsefire, which wins 87% of the vote. Not long after the election, Viadoxic Pharmaceuticals manufactures a cure for the virus. 1:34:48 2015 Anti-Sutler rally is held in Leeds after his appointment to high chancellor. Government records say that Evey's father was the chief activist for the rally. Evey remembers her parents being there. 16:04 and 41:48 2015 Valerie meets Ruth and stars in 'The Salt Flats.' 1:15:17 September 2015 Evey is detained at 12 years old and placed in a Juvenile Reclamation Project. 16:04 LARKHILL 2016 Prothero is made commander of Larkhill. 39:14 Prothero's bank statement from 10 February 2016 to 10 April 2016 shows his profit as a leading Viadoxic shareholder 1:35:00 April 2016 Father Lilliman begins working at Larkhill. 44:54 23 May (year is omitted, but presumably 2016) Dr. Diana Stanton's (Delia Surridge) "first batch of subjects arrive." 57:46 5 November (year is omitted, but presumably 2016) Larkhill is destroyed. 59:35 December 2016 Father Lilliman completes his employment at Larkhill. 44:54 Larkhill produces a weaponized virus from the blood of one of the victims. 1:33:45 2017 Prothero is awarded for advanced breakthrough in neurological and biochemical research. 39:14 July 2020 Father Lilliman becomes a bishop and remains so until the present day. 44:54 January 2021 Evey is employed with the BTN at Jordan Tower. 16:04 2024 Prothero has 23% listed shares in Viadoxic Pharmaceuticals, with £4 billion holdings 36:53 December 2024 Evey's BTN ID card expires. 15:12 PRESENT DAY TIMELINE 30 November Prothero dies. News report on 1 December says he passed away "late last night." 37:45 2 October Authorities report the alleged uncovering of new evidence linking V to the St. Mary's virus that happened 14 years ago. 1:31:03 Rockwood is found to have died "twenty years now." 1:39:07 V says it took him nearly 10 years to lay his own Underground railroad tracks 1:49:39 V says "For twenty years I sought only this day." 1:58:40 2025-2026 This is perhaps the earliest guess that might be supported. As said before, Evey's BTN ID card is voided and expired in December 2024, and this scene takes place on the first of the two November 5 shown in the film. If this is true, then the events of the film take place November 4, 2025 - November 5, 2026. 2028 A news reporter says that St. Mary's happened 14 years ago from the present day. If St. Mary's occurred in 2014, then the present year would be 2028. It's also worth mentioning that actress Natalie Portman was 25 at the film's release, and if the character Evey (who was born in 2003) is to be of a similar age, then the story might be around 2028. 2034 Rockwood's records show him as missing as of 6 May 2014. In the present timeline, it is discovered that he has been dead for 20 years (whether that's an approximation or exact number is unknown). This would suggest the present year is 2034. 2036 Before V dies, he says "For twenty years I sought only this day" (1:58:40). What started V's quest for vengeance 20 years ago? Larkhill? St. Mary's? The general shift towards totalitarianism? When she learns that Valerie was real, Evey says "That's what this is all about. You're getting back at them for what they did to her. And to you" (1:27:49), so the events of Larkhill presumably prompt V's quest for vengeance. Again, is 20 years exact or an approximation? We don't know, but if Larkhill took place in 2016, then the present year is around 2036. 2038 In her autobiography, Valerie says "But for three years, I had roses and apologized to no one" (1:17:30). Valerie and Ruth met in 2015, and although we don't know exactly when, they later moved in together. If Valerie "had roses" for three years, then they lived together for at least three years. This suggests the earliest Valerie could have been sent to Larkhill would be 2018 (possibly even later if Valerie and Ruth moved in together after 2015). This is problematic because elsewhere it's said that Larkhill only existed in 2016. But if Larkhill took place in 2018 and Larkhill prompted V's 20-year journey of vengeance, then this could place the present year around 2038.3 I know that was long, but.....it was important information, in my humble opinion There's SO much gray area in this film in terms of morality and in terms of 'right and wrong' I mean, a LOT of stuff was CLEARLY very, very, VERY wrong, but V kidnapping Evie and putting her through torture and confinement was pretty awful, in spite of being for a technically noble purpose. I think about some of the things that took place here in the states after 9/11. Not AS bad, but still pretty NOT great. It's my understanding that the V from the graphic novel was much more in an anarchistic bent, just wanting to destroy the tyrannical government to the best of his ability and whatever happened next would hopefully suck LESS. The concept of an idea being bulletproof REALLY resonates with me. Rulers throughout history have tried to suppress ideas that they didn't like, ideas that threatened their grip on power. We can look around us right now and see MANY governments doing this. The statement "people should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people" also hits me hard because I see SO much corruption and government tyranny every where I look, and it doesn't get BETTER, it just gets worse and worse and worse. I saw a video just today about a kid in Baltimore who had police called on him because an ANTI-gun AI system judged a video of him on school grounds as the student having a gun. Turns out, the "gun" was an EMPTY BAG OF DORITOS!!! Cops show up and cuff him, throw him on the ground, the works..... Part of the problem is that there are far too many people who will commit terrible acts simply because someone in authority tells them to. THIS scares the shit out of me! I also find the idea of political violence being a means to an end to be a thorny and complicated subject. Nowadays, here in the states, we are seeing a metric FUCK TON of violence from the left because they are mad at trump and maga and all of that. The people committing these acts and the people applauding said acts are cut from the same piece of delusional, hateful cloth. It's hard to know what to do or think. I hope I haven't gone too far off the depend, Harry and Lauren. I enjoyed your reaction very much. Looking forward to the days that you post your future reaction to LOTR and the Matrix trilogy (I don't recognize the later addition of a fourth film as ANYTHING.....ONLY the first three Matrix movies are worth a damn)!

Flix n Feels

Ohh Jack the Ripper is definitely a topic/movie we would love to explore, such an interesting case! Just had a quick google and it has Johnny Depp so we will 100% be adding that to our list! Ah the timeline, this looks compelling, like you say there is little hints in the movie but we hadn't really thought too deeply about it! Fascinating it has sort-of futuristic elements (these would've felt more so when it was released) but watching it for the first time this year makes it so much more believable given where technology is and where it is going... It has ended up in some ways reflecting society or parts of the world with the massive surveillance. Hmm kinda scary to think about it and where it may all head one day with AI! Looking at the movie through a lens of political violence is also really interesting, depending on when you watch it and what is happening around the world at the time would have a massive sway on how you view the film! It can seem hard to not get weighed down by what we see around us... Yes we are wanting to do both of these in hopefully the not too distant future but we also want to wait till we have some nice equipment so the movies get the best possible viewing quality as they rightfully deserve 😊
