This movie was well made, the accuracy of WW1 in this movie was phenomenal. But I hate to think that Lance Corporal Schofield didn’t last to see his family or to see the War end because he probably got a deceased when he accidentally put his cut hand into that dead soldier’s cavity 😬. Penicillin was invented after WW2.

WW1 was such a pointless waste of life. I mean, all war is a waste of life but you could say that WW2 was important to win so that Hitler didn't have free reign to do whatever he wanted to your country. And the Ukranians are doing the same thing because they don't want Putin to do whatever he wants to their country. But WW1 was basically just all the Colonial European Empires trying to assert their own power and sending all their men to the slaughter to do it and then there's all the inter-personal drama between the Monarchs too. That's why we did have those few magical moments of the Christmas Truce where both of the regular people were like, "what the hell are we doing?" And it'sprobably also why the soldiers in this keep trying to not actually kill anyone they don't need too. About the planes. In WW1, they didn't give pilots parachutes. They thought it would make more cowardly. So if you got shot down, you would probably just die. Because of this there were lots of instances where they tried to avoid fighting in the sky too since it mean probably certain death for you, or you are actually killing somebody. Pilots carried small firearms on them. Not so they could use them really but if their cockpit caught fire, there's no way to escape, so they would burn alive. So the gun would be so they could shoot themselves if that happened. Germany eventually got them in 1918 but parachutes only became a thing after WW1 for everyone. I think someone was like, "maybe we want the people who have experience to actually come back and fly again with what they've now learned?"

It is one of our favourite war movies to date. It was so brilliant at depicting the atrocious nature of the war but also the connection we feel to the characters. Argh I know 😔 as soon as that happened we really thought there is no way he makes it through 😕

Yes we so agree! Such a waste of a whole generation and the damage it did to everyone involved and the countries that were destroyed.. just so sad! Such a good point about the parachutes, why would you not want them to come back either continue fighting or teach others. How crazy to class them as cowardly
