This was a really fun video on YouTube. I thoroughly enjoyed this and what a treat. It was to be surprised with such a fun reaction. I sent you two links about what most people call the greatest play in the NFL. The second link that I sent is actually the one that would provide the most information about the play that day. That’s why I sent you two links. I sent the wrong one the first time. Lol. Here’s the link again though so you know for sure you have the right one! Fun fact, this is also the team and the same year that Chuck Noland’s old girlfriend is telling him about in Cast Away after he gets back home. If you remember, she tells him “they got a new football team in Nashville, and they lost the Super Bowl by one yard their first year as the Tennessee Titans.” Sorry to repeat this again in the comment sections. I just really wanted you to have the right link. I think you’ll enjoy the story. https://youtu.be/Q-HDWCXCi7w?is=IaBELFRizLEO-hdf

There used to be moved known as the "head slap," in which a defensive player (usually on the line of scrimmage) would quickly give a "one-two" bang on each side of the opponent's helmet with his fists or open hands, which would cause the player to blink and disorient them, giving the player an added split-second to get around him in order to pursue the quarterback, but it was banned because sometimes injury resulted. Now, I will add something serious. Harry mentioned CTE, and concussion protocol has become a focal point in player safety, especially in the last 14 years. This is because in 2012 a 43-year-old former star NFL player who was experiencing some cognitive decline and mental health issues took his life by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. This method was believed to be an "unwritten note" that he wanted his brain to be studied, which it was and CTE and damage consistent with years of high impact collisions was found. It was a watershed moment, not because it was the first NFL‑related tragedy, but because it was the moment when the league, the public, and even skeptical fans could no longer dismiss the long‑term consequences of repeated head trauma. Rule changes, helmet design technology, NFL concussion policy, player lawsuits, and scientific research into repetitive head trauma with the NFL contributing tens of millions of dollars has resulted.

As YouTube explained, a lot of those hits were or are now illegal. Anything to the head is an absolute no, especially if it looks like you did it on purpose(you’re off and probably fined and suspended) The Rules of American Football Explained is a great one. Super simple and basic. You’ll know it if you see some dude in a white uniform with a blue star on his helmet on the thumbnail (Tony Romo lol. I had a meme of him on my desktop for a while back in the early early 2010s) Theres also the most athletic plays and mic’d up moments videos that help give a feel of the sport.

Also you are taught early the fundamentals of tackling with your shoulders squared and your feet planted on the ground, but the aggression plus the pads just leads to people flying through the air like missiles.

So to say alot of these hits are completely illegal and have major plenties, and you are allowed to hit anyone ball or not, and no you cant grab and hold someone thats called “holding” and gets you a 10 yard penalty . And yep all these hits definitely caused concussions and injuries so the NFL (national football league) made new rules to protect the players especially head wise. Well theres no official women’s team. And i should say alot of these players have been playing this game since they are kids (hell i played it as a kid up to high school and i knew i couldn’t keep up. One hit i took was at the ear hole on the helmet and i was down for a solid minute) but these athletes are a mix of sports they run like sprinters, bench 300+, jump higher then most jump sprints basically the pinnacle of human form and they slamming into each other full force. Theres a good quote but it goes like “ rugby is 2 guys grappling each other with running, football is a full contact sport with 2 cars ramming into each other for 1 hour straight” And to make a long explanation short football is a 4 “period” game of 25 minutes each with the 2 teams flipping a coin to determine who gets the ball (most teams pick the second half to get the ball) but then they start with a kick off where the receiving teams gets the ball. So i consider football a war sport we’re both teams have to out trick, out play, and out fox your opponent with 4 tries. So no matter were the ball goes down you have 4 “downs” to get 10 yards for another 4 “downs” so lets say you cant get 10 yards in 4 downs? Well you have a choice either you go for it (which most teams wont unless they have a yard or 2 or desperate) or you “punt” the ball to other team, but if you went for the other team stopped you and didn’t make it they get ball where you were. I could go one but then id have to write a book so ill shoot you some links https://youtu.be/l87BOQy44Eo?is=Sp3wmtTOD1tbWKIp This is the history of college football because funny enough “professional” football came from university teams first which would help give brith to modern NFL https://youtu.be/ovdbrdCIP7U?is=fZAVRmtEe0aim10p Heres a good video of every current team in the NFL and the history of the league https://youtu.be/vh5jaFpbXUQ?is=sLHPEDHc_-oJDsRg Heres another good video little old but good video on the super bowl history https://youtu.be/bOGGoY4KLZo?is=gi-IqzquV5t67XQ2 A link of the best plays of last year, not just hits but catches, runs, trick plays, moves, and how crazy some plays get And if you want some football movies i highly recommend “remember the titans” a football move about a high school team coming together both black and white after the end of segregation it has Denzel Washington as the head coach And i should say this college football is a lot like how Europeans and the rest of the world play in international football due to people living by the university and something pretty unique i say compare to soccer, family legacy. You see alot more support for the college teams because well there grandparents went, or their parents went or they are currently in said college so the rivalry and energy gets even more intense then professional football I could say more but i say explore and discover at your own pace

Ah I only just clicked about the moment in Cast Away! That's so cool it's based on a real team. Will definitely check out both links you sent 🙂

That is such an incredibly sad story but at least some good came of studying his brain. We've learnt a bit about CTE being from a rugby obsessed country and I feel there will be parallels with the changes to the sport. We will check in on the rules so we get a better eye for detail when we react to these in the future 🙂
