It’s fun to rewatch this alongside ya, and it’s so nostalgic having seen this the first time like 20 years ago. Fun to see your thoughts on it all and I think you’ll love the dark knight too

I went to see this movie four or five times back in the day. I was in awe. Not just of how good it was as a proper movie, let alone as a superhero origin movie that came out just before the start of the heyday of superhero movies. And it was a great movie that was also a great adaptation that came the closest to some of the main Batman comics at the time, not only respecting the characters but improving a couple of them too. You almost never had that in a movie like this back then. Then you have all these great actors, character and method award-winning actors that are playing it straight and not winking at the camera that this is just a comic book movie. Bale from American Pscho, Gary Oldman from countless great films, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy, Hauer, Wilkinson, Watanabe, etc etc etc. Not to mention one of the greatest performances ever of a villain by Heath Ledger coming up. AND then there is Christopher Nolan, whom I knew from the insanely great "Memento," still one of his top films, check it out when you want to start the Nolan filmography journey. Also, when you finish the Batman trilogy, consider watching the newer Matt Reeves' "The Batman" from 2022 , certain villains from that universe are certainly going to be almost as compelling if not as much as the great Heath Ledger's Joker.

Crazy thing is, Bat Guano is worth billions as it is! so he is literally sitting on gold! I'm so happy you liked this! I can't wait for you to see Gary Oldman in the 5th Element totally different character than I have ever seen him play! He is such a great actor!

Everybody needs more Gary Oldman -> The Fifth Element, Dracula, Sid and Nancy. Or TV = Slow Horses.

If you want to round out your Batman cinematic knowledge, watch: * A couple of episodes of the 1960's Batman with Adam West (very campy) * The 1989 Batman by Tim Burton with Michael Keaton & Jack Nicholson (which you mentioned) * Then the 2022 The Batman with Robert Pattinson

This trilogy changed cultural expectations for ‘comic book movies’ into expecting serious, dramatic movies. There have been tons of (terribly campy, low-budget, or both) ‘comic book’ movies, but this movie and this trilogy changed public and critical perceptions and expectations of movies based on comics. It paved a path for the MCU.
