happy monday everyone! did anyone watch the oscars last night?!

even though I haven't seen too many of what came out over the past year (since I'm now trying to preserve some movies for the channel) I still get a kick out of watching - I truly don't know why.

I have to say, the In Memoriam section had tears actively flowing out of my eyes. I know I'm still a newcomer to his work, but the Rob Reiner tribute setting up the entire dedication felt quite thoughtful and special - the entire format of the In Memoriam was a nice change-up. but that Billy Crystal speech paired with the lineup of actors from Reiner's movies wrecked me 😭

I was so excited to see Paul Thomas Anderson finally win some long-deserved awards - we've been watching many of his movies recently and I feel like I grow fonder with each film!

I was beaming so big when Coogler won for best original screenplay, and later in the night when Michael B. Jordan won best actor 🥲 Black Panther 2 was one of my first film sets I worked on, and being around him as a young director that I admired was thrilling and I was just so happy to see them both get some well-deserved acknowledgment.

and omg, Amy Madigan winning for Weapons! made me happy because I had such a blast watching that on here with all of you. I think that creepy villain performances have become one of my favorite elements of cinema.

what did y'all think? did you have any favorite wins or anything you wish would've won instead?

ANYWAY! coming up this week on Patreon -

Tuesday - JoJo Rabbit - winner of last month's spinning wheel!

Friday - Barry Lyndon!! our next Kubrick film

Sunday - Arcane ep 1x6

I'm trying to edit for YT as fast as I'm able to, with The Dark Knight coming next. that will be followed by Andor, The Dark Knight Rises, and RRR!

Yes, Crystal's memorial followed by the appearance of all Reiner's friends and collaborators was overwhelmingly moving! I thought that whole section was beautifully done. It was a really good show overall. Thrilled to finally see Paul Thomas Anderson receive recognition and I believe the best film ultimately won. I'm generally happy with the acting awards too (although I would have given Best Actress to Rose Byrne) and I thought on the whole the speeches were fun and sincere, and Conan's comic bits mostly worked. I'm currently sitting in the office struggling to focus on work after around 3.5 hours sleep (the show finished just after 2:30am UK time) but I'm glad I stayed up for it. Looking forward to revisiting Barry Lyndon with you. Kubrick's most human film, perhaps? It's his greatest, in my view.

Good Morning, Camilla... yes, I definitely did see the Oscar's last night. And to prepare for it, I saw the 2 movies, on demand, that were going to be the most honored that night. "One Battle for Another" & "Sinners". You are right about Paul Thomas Anderson finally getting the accolades that he deserves. I have seen half of his films (Punch Drunk Love, Boggie Nights, There Will Be Blood , Phantom Thread) all of them very engaging and deep in plot and character development. After I saw "One Battle for Another" , I saw your reaction to the film, which was great. That must have been a great experience for you seeing people you work with get the acclaim and honors they have deserved; most notably as you indicated Ryan Coogler & Michael B. Jordan from Sinners. While I am on the topic of SINNERS, I was wondering if you reacted to the movie "Sinners" . If not, would that be a film you would consider reacting to. Looking forward to the Dark Knight Rises.

I need to see Rose Byrne's movie! and Hamnet too 🤷‍♀️ so much more to see. I worked on a show with Rose last year and she was so so nice! hope you can hang in there at work today! 🤣

I look forward to your Hamnet reaction…it was so good! And I look forward to your YT edit of Jojo Rabbit! To be completely honest, I never watch full length reactions…I prefer the YT edits and the lengths of those videos are much more accommodating to my schedule. Thanks for all you do, Camilla!
