It was so fun to see you keep rooting for Syril to turn. He wasn’t evil, he just truly believed in law and order, and thought that the Empire represented that. Dedra seemed genuinely shaken. I don’t know is she knew that Syril was dead at that point, but either way she shook it off and straightened her uniform like she was trying to smooth out the genocide wrinkles. Dreena’s plea for help always chokes me up. There was just so much pain and helplessness in her voice. The old man who shot Syril was physically alright, but he was devestated emotionally. His worst fears are coming to pass. This was a great episode, but the best episode of the series is still to come, in my opinion.

“The old man” Rylanz was also looking devastated at the end because his daughter died a few minutes earlier by being chucked across the plaza by a droid and having her neck broken. Rylanz killing Syril out of revenge probably did little to relieve his grief in the moment sadly.

It took me a few re-watches to notice that the hotel bellhop is officially part of the Ghorman Front. In the scene in Episode 7 where the Gorman rebels are all arguing with each other until the big guy reminds them “we are the Ghor” the bellhop is standing next to him in an orange turtleneck. And I love that he is the first to say the now infamous line “rebellions are built on hope” that Cassian and Jyn repeat later.

Syril finally realized he was on the wrong side and died two seconds later. I see his life as one form of tragedy that can occur under a totalitarian state. It was fun to watch you try to convince Syril (or yourself?) that he could make the switch:)

yes for Rylanz who was the biggest pacifist to be the one to do it... haunting

Cassian never saw Syril's face. Syril, on the other hand, knew his face and never forgot it. In any case, the Imperial attack didn't fail; it was a false flag operation. They attacked themselves to justify the counterattack. This also happens in our reality.
