thanks so much to Noah for the request on Reactr for this Superman movie! I'd been incredibly curious about this one and am happy that I got to see it sooner than expected 🤠

Green Lantern is one of the most powerful members of the Justice League in the comics. Even stopped a super nova once lol. The only movie about him was from 2011 with Ryan Reynolds and was famously not good. But HBO has a series coming out this August called Lanterns and it is in the Gunn universe. It's looking really good from the trailers. Supergirl release is on June 26 this year and Superman Man of Tomorrow is in production now for July 2027

I’ve had this movie on the back burner for a while, so glad I was finally able to watch it before supergirl comes out next month. Don’t want to get too political here, but at the time it came out the movie got a bit of backlash due to the war in the movie being compared to the war in the Middle East. Also people didn’t like Lex’s relationship with Superman, because they saw it as a representation of everything going on with imagination. As you can imagine it turned people off from the movie. I’m sure it was just a coincidence, but did you know you released your reaction a month to the day that supergirl comes out.

It got backlash from the MAGA-movement and grifters sure but it grossed $354M domestically so I doubt that it's take of real-life events did anything. I almost assume that it gained more than it lost there. It underperformed globally, especially in China. There's several factors to it but the most common theories is superhero-fatigue along with the fact that the US isn't enjoying it's greatest popularity.
