it's about time we dedicate a bit of time to the western genre, since it's been pretty forgotten on my channel...

a few weeks ago during my April livestream on YouTube, I got some suggestions from the chat for what should go on a poll for westerns - these were some of the most popular requests! happy voting!

All the sixties options are great (and the other is supposed to be great); but choosing Butch bc one of the costarts was a dear man I got to know later on :)

1st one answering... Fistful of Dollars is a perfect introduction to the Clint Eastwood Western genre. He is probably the 2nd most popular star in genre after John Wayne.

Alexander George

If I Had a 2nd choice after A Fistful of Dollars, it is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. (I definitely would recommend this over Fistful of Dollars if Camilla wants a one and done Western considering that a Fistful of Dollars is one of 3 movies in a set , almost like a trilogy)

Lanny Stanfield

"The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" might be one to consider as well if you haven't seen it.

Steve Holton

Great selection! Three of these films are directly influenced by the work of Japanese master director Akira Kurosawa. "The Magnificent Seven" and "A Fist Full of Dollars" are direct remakes of the Kurosawa films "Seven Samourai" and "Yojimbo" respectively. And "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" is often referred to as a landmark "buddy movie", a genre which many film historians trace to Kurosawa's film "Stray Dog". Japan is a little west of here, so this works.😊

A few more suggestions for great Clint Eastwood westerns and an unofficial trilogy: The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) Pale Rider (1985) Unforgiven (1992)

Camilla's Corner

I didn't include it since I'd probably watch Fistful of Dollars as a trilogy if that wins!

Camilla's Corner

ooo yes I always hear about Seven Samourai - maybe I should watch that first!

Steve Holton

Seven Samourai is a long film, but it does tend to attract interest on YouTube. And, of course, it is a classic for a reason.

Joseph Olson

For me this between Butch Cassidy and A Fistful of Dollars. The Magnificent Seven is good, but I would recommend watching the 1954 Japanese original, Seven Samurai, over this one. The Quick and the Dead is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. No cliche was left out. Some people like it, and that baffles me. To each their own, but I’ll never understand it.
