To answer your question Superman came out in the 1930’s before captain America who came out in 1941. Superman was meant to be a symbol of hope during the Great Depression, while Captain America was used as a sort of anti nazi character, and also used as anti Nazi propaganda during WWII. The Creators of Captain America based the character on themselves before he took the serum. Also his shield being made of vibranium is an early Easter egg for Black Panther. Though it was early in the MCU, so probably not intentional. Stan Leewas in the award ceremony scene.

So Tony’s father originally went out looking for Steve but couldn’t find him and later went on to be a founding member of SHIELD. A Russian oil team found the wreckage and alerted the US Government who then sent out a team to investigate. It was representatives of SHIELD that recognized Steve’s shield. That is when he “said call the Colonel.” Fury has been obsessed with the idea of a team of super humans and in universe Steve was the first documented super hero. As someone mentioned, Superman came first, but Cap followed during WW II as American propaganda and there are actual comics of Cap punching Hitler from that era. The publisher at the time was called Timely comics and Cap was not the only hero or the first, just the most popular. The first hero at Timely was a version of the Human Torch but not the version the Chris Evans played in the Twentieth Century Fox version of the Fantastic Four. During the 50s - super hero comics faded in popularity and Timely stopped all their hero titles (unlike DC). In the early 60s after a couple name changes they became Marvel Comics and Stan Lee and Jack Kirby made new comics based on heroes but wanted to be distinct from their rivals at DC. Superman and Wonder Woman were always very Demi-god like and perfect. Stan wanted heroes that were more interesting and had flaws. The first title was the Fantastic Four and were famous for featuring inter family drama and the bickering buddies of the Human Torch and the Thing. It wasn’t long before the Avengers title was launched and after a few issues, because Stan Lee wanted to use their most popular WW II era hero, the team found and thawed out Steve Rogers who had been trapped in a block of ice. Just for a much shorter period of time. The original plan for the MCU version of the Avengers movie was to include all of the characters that were in the first issue of the comic BUT one character’s origin movie was delayed by several years so you won’t see those characters until much later. Again no spoilers.

In addition to his faceless appearance in V for Vendetta and his voice work in Babe, Hugo Weaving has made it to this channel as Elrond the Elf in the Lord of the Rings movies. I don’t know if you’ve seen them off channel but his other most commonly seen performances are in The Matrix films, Hacksaw Ridge and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Hugo Weaving's face?! Add "The Matrix" series to your list. It's a must-see movie & Hugo has a good amount of screen time.

Stanley Tucci as the German super soldier serum doctor. Super important role for establishing Captain America's path.
