The origin stories were all enjoyable, many depicting the classic comic book introductions exceptionally well. Iron Man and Captain America, The First Avenger and Thor were particular highlights. The Avengers presented a challenging enemies to friends team building story very successfully.

The Cap->Fury $10. When they were talking earlier at the gym, Fury made Cap a $10 bet that things would get weirder than Cap could believe.

Good job with the Stan Lee cameo. They almost snuck it past you.

Post credit scenes -- yeah, you don't want to start researching the movies, but you could ask ChatGPT/Claude a super specific question like "how many post-credit scenes does [movie] have? Only give me a number."

You should watch the OG Spider-Man movies eventually. It's not critical for a while. Your community will have a lot of opinions about which OG Marvel (non-MCU) movies you should watch & in what order. I have my opinions, but I'll hold off on them for now. The underlying issue is that other companies (Fox/Sony) owned the rights to Spiderman/X-Men/Fantastic Four so that the MCU could only use those characters when they eventually got the legal ability to use those characters.

Toby and Andrew Spider-Man 100% 🔥🔥 But you have plenty of time to weave them in whenever you want.

Every time i watch this movie with a different reactor, i have a bojillion thoughts, many of them new. I'm only going to share a couple though. Blows my mind that you don't know Joss Whedon. Cancel culture got him good. But my first comment is in reference to his directing style. If you watch carefully during a Joss Whedon movie or TV series you'll see that he really likes to have falling people land in a very painful way, most often landing on the edge of something. A dumpster, a table, a sarcophagus - landing on the edge hurts way more than falling flat on your back, and Joss really seems to enjoy hurting his characters in this way. 😂 Also, i would like to express my hope that you will watch the TV series when the time comes in release order. Like the films, some are almost universally embraced, some have fans split roughly 50/50, and some most folk will agree are sub-par (luckily, there aren't THAT many of the latter). My personal favorite is "Hawkeye," but i understand it's one of the middle group. But i do think it's it's worth viewing the dogs, too, and making up your own mind. For example, [spoiler] is generally considered to be crud, but it's worth watching to see [spoiler]. 😉

Haven’t watched the Avengers in years, and while I still like the movie I feel like the fact that we know there are sequels weakens it. We know the main heroes will make it out, so the stakes don’t feel that high. At the same time i feel like this movie is better because the cast isn’t as bloated, and feels like a more simple story. Also no need to rush, or watch the other Spider-Man movies right away, because they don’t tie into the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies until after Endgame. The Toby ones are good, but I’d say put them on the back burner for now. Also you can’t watch the Loki show until after Endgame. It won’t make a lot of sense, and you’ll get some spoilers for upcoming movies. Yes the guy being interviewed on the news at the end of the movie was Stan Lee.

"Avengers... assemble!" is the famous catchphrase you're thinking of. Expecting to hear it but not is maybe the one let-down I remember upon first viewing of this way back when it came out in theaters. While this film is always still fun on a re-watch you really had to be there in 2012 to appreciate just how big of an event this was for the super-hero genre. With the benefit of hindsight we take the success of this franchise for granted now, but even though there had been plenty of super-hero stand-alones, sequels, and trilogies prior to this, nothing seemed nearly as ambitious. Giving most of the main characters a solo film with origin story/background was a novel approach at the time (attempts have been made to replicate by several other brands/franchises since, but never as successfully), which really helped flesh out each of them in a way that you couldn't if you jumped right into this big team-up/crossover. Having Loki return as a reoccurring villain was a great move too. I think the HUGE financial success of this film also emboldened Marvel to take more risky/ambitious moves in future films like giving a shot to lesser known characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy, or starting to set up the multi-film plotlines that they are kind of known for now. Regarding the earlier Spider-Man films, YES! You should absolutely watch those! I think occasionally sprinkling one in amongst the MCU schedule would be fine. I don't think it's a necessity to have watched all of them before you start on some of the MCU/Tom Holland films, but I DO think it's pretty important to have at least watched the first Tobey Maguire film (2002) BEFORE starting phase 3 of the MCU just to get his basic backstory/origin and famous catchphrase which is obviously (and sometimes hilariously) omitted from the MCU. Without spoiling too much, there's a very brief but fun moment in phase 3 you'll enjoy if you're "in the know" about Spider-man ahead of time and just the first Tobey movie will cover all of the basics for you. Really looking forward to watching some Spider-Man with you!
