Just finished watching along with you, and although it's quite late now it was definitely worth it! I've been so excited and looking forward to this all week! I'm glad you did the post movie research section too! You pretty much found all the key historical inaccuracies, although the minor ones that will still have the history nerds up in arms are the anachronisms regarding the costumes and armor. Once this makes it to YouTube I'm sure someone there will tell you ALL about it. Haha! Unfortunately it seems like most conversations about this film center primarily around all of the historical inaccuracies and fail to acknowledge its well deserved accolades as a great film on its own, so I'm glad you looked up some of its awards as well. Besides being my favorite film of all time, the musical score is also probably my favorite soundtrack/album. Unlike a lot of film scores it's very listenable as stand-alone music from start to finish, and in my opinion the film should have won at least one more Academy Award for music. Rest in peace to the composer James Horner, who I'm sure we'll get to hear on the channel again sometime. (Early request for Casper (1995) for Halloween this year as a "not so scary pick" for a poll or something.) Whether or not this depiction of William Wallace was true to history or not, there certainly must have been something meaningful or inspiring about his life and death that preserved his legend for nearly 700 years. Inspirational. I think that's a great word to describe this film, despite it's sad/dark moments, and I think that's why it always resonates with me, despite having seen it dozens of times. I'm glad you got invested in the story and seemed like you mostly liked it! I wish you could have seen my face there towards the end when you were still hoping for a daring rescue by Wallace's friends though. 😬😅

Camilla's Corner

also NOTE I just realized I've been thinking Mel Brooks and Mel Gibson were the same person.... LOL so that's why I mentioned how I thought of him moreso in comedy etc.

Camilla's Corner

ooo, yeah without knowing much inside drama or anything, I feel like the creative liberties they took help make it a more exciting and dramatic story. but maybe it feels like history is being disrespected? I don't know! I'll be curious to learn more about it and I'm sure get a lot of input once it's posted on YouTube

I did notice that comment and after a few minutes of REALLY trying to think of any notable Mel Gibson comedies, I finally came to the conclusion that you must have just mixed up your Mels. A Mel Brooks "Braveheart" adaptation would be quite a different film, but I kinda think I would love it. Haha!

Grant

The guy who leads the Scottish to victory at the end, Robert The Bruce, is buried about five minutes away from I'm sitting now.
