the next Nolan movie!

what an awesome lineup of the big 3 actors in this one! I loved this Al Pacino performance... what are your thoughts and feelings on Insomnia?!

This isn’t my favorite Nolan movie, but I like it very much. I’ve had the occasional sleepless night, and it’s strange how the entire day after you’re aware that you’re not functioning well, that you’re not really yourself. Then after a nights sleep and you’re back to normal, you become even more aware of how poorly you were functioning the previous day. It’s almost like the person you were the day before wasn’t really you. I can’t imagine how going multiple nights without sleep would affect someone. Al Pacino is a great actor, but he has done some over the top performances. Scarface, The Devil’s Advocate, Heat…it sometimes feels like he’s substituting screaming for emotion. I really enjoyed his more subdued performance in this one, and how he portrayed the effects of insomnia on the psyche and decision making. It was weird seeing Robin Williams portray a murderer who wanted to be romantic with a 17 year old girl. I’m used to the funny Robin Williams, so it was jarring to see him being so creepy. If you want more Hillary Swank, I suggest Million Dollar Baby. She won the Oscar for Best Actress for that movie. It also stars Clint Eastwood (who also directed it, and won the Oscar for Best Director and was nominated for Best Actor) and Morgan Freeman (won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor).
