Good Luke The Game — Progress Update (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone! 👋We know many of you are excited for the next updates — and so are we!
We’re working really hard to make Good Luke The Game something special. Right now, our main focus is building a solid foundation, so we can avoid major issues in the future.
This is our first time developing a game like this, so we’re learning as we go. That naturally leads to revisions, refactors, and rethinking parts of the code — but this is essential, because the game is about to grow a lot.
We’re talking about a full map, multiple characters, quests, time-of-day systems, character routines, minigames, and much more 🚀
Many of you have asked for a release schedule, but to be completely honest:we’re currently in the most complex planning phase, where everything needs to work together properly. Because of that, it’s still too early to set a fixed schedule.
That said, we’ll be posting weekly progress updates — and this is the first one! 👇
📖 Writing & Planning
We created detailed character sheets for our characters — full documents that define personality, behavior, and narrative consistency. This ensures the entire team visualizes the characters the same way.
We’re planning a fun, immersive, and slightly crazy story 😏This takes more work than it seems, since we need to balance personalities and make sure the world feels varied and alive.
We started designing the first sandbox-style missions. From this update onward, players will be able to choose their own paths, manage their days, and decide how to spend their time. This requires a lot of planning and brainstorming to avoid gameplay issues later.
🎮 Gameplay
We’re implementing time of day and days of the week. The game will feature 4 time periods: morning / afternoon / night / late night — all with unique renders.
We’re developing character routines, meaning each character will have different behaviors depending on the day and time.
We’re planning a job system for the player 💰Money will be needed for certain situations — and there will be some very fun ways to spend it.
We’re designing the player’s phone, which will have many utilities and features. Some of them will be revealed in future posts 👀
We’re researching and testing minigames. This takes time, since they must integrate smoothly with our code without breaking the game.
🎨 Art
We’ve started rendering environments with different times of day. It’s a lot of work, but we’re building a smart system so future renders automatically match the correct lighting.
We’re creating new characters ✨Some are still in the planning phase, while others are close to being finished. You’re going to love them.
We’re planning new locations, which is one of the most time-consuming parts of development — but progress is steady.
We’re developing shot packs and animations that appear in the game and are also posted on Patreon. Many of these will later become collectibles or story content — but for now, they’re exclusive to our paying members ❤️
💻 Code & Programming
This is our first time working with Ren’Py, so every system is a challenge and a learning experience.
After the initial release, we began the hard work of fixing, refactoring, and automating systems, preparing everything for version 1.1, where the game will expand significantly.
We’re rebuilding the audio system from scratch. The old one had issues like audio breaking on rollback, conflicts with identical paths, and problems with custom audio channels.
We’re testing the new audio system, ensuring proper integration with animations, synchronization, and improved control over multiple audio channels 🎧
We’ve started developing the character routine system, including days of the week, time of day, and total day progression — giving each character their own “life.”
We’re studying shaders and visual effects to make the game more immersive and allow for more creative gameplay and minigames ✨
