Good Luke The Game — Progress Update (Patreon)
Content
Hiii, Guys!!
During the last week, we implemented several updates. We made solid progress in both game production and art development, improving the necessary processes for smoother flow and better gameplay. We’ve been focusing on keeping the game lightweight so it’s accessible to everyone, while also making it interactive and intuitive to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
🎮 Gameplay
We are creating a multifunctional smartphone inside the game that will act as a true gameplay hub. Through it, players will be able to track quests, check character status, access the map, use the bank system, save/load the game, and adjust settings — all in an integrated and natural way.
We are also evaluating and testing a notification feature for the phone, which will alert players when something important happens (such as quest updates or relevant changes), making the game feel more alive and dynamic.
The new time-of-day renders have been implemented: morning, afternoon, evening, and night.
It is now possible to change the time of day within the game, creating a more immersive and flexible experience. With alternative time periods applied, we can now work even better with characters, who will move between locations depending on the time of day and days of the week.
🎨 Art
The implementation of different times of day during gameplay required us to create multiple versions of each scenario to synchronize the in-game time with what appears on screen. In addition, we developed interactive buttons that allow players to select the time of day.
We began developing the smartphone’s visual design, planned the interface, created icons, and now have a first working version ready to be integrated and tested in-game.
We also started developing three new characters that will be added in version 1.1. You’ll be able to exchange certain “services” for money, haha!
The map is being updated — beyond lighting improvements, we are adapting building characteristics, defining locations and their functions, and adding more environmental details.
We added binoculars to Luke’s bedroom. It’s an interactive object — during gameplay, you’ll be able to look through the window and glimpse some “interesting scenes.”
💻 Code & Programming
The time-of-day renders (morning, afternoon, evening, and night) have been fully implemented. Players can now switch between different times of day in-game, increasing immersion and freedom. With alternative schedules in place, we can better manage character routines, allowing them to move between locations depending on specific times and days of the week.
After implementing the time-of-day renders and separating the necessary components, we moved into a testing phase. The design team created temporary new icons for switching time periods, and we successfully enabled real-time time changes.
After adding this feature, we identified a performance bottleneck during time transitions, which was expected. The previous image preloading system only loaded adjacent room assets to ensure smooth navigation, but it did not preload assets for upcoming time periods.
To solve this, we updated the preloading system to also load assets from the next time period. For example, if you are in the bedroom during the morning, the system will now preload corridor assets for the morning and bedroom assets for the afternoon.
We made consistent progress on the game’s character foundation. The old character and effects systems were refactored, reusing logic from the previous source and adapting it into a more modern, organized, and scalable structure.
Character sprites received important improvements 🎭Nancy was used as the reference character to define the technical and visual standard.Vivian, Donna, and Stephanie had their sprite sets finalized, with color palettes adjusted for better consistency.
The sprite system itself was improved to make maintenance easier, encourage reuse, and allow automatic adaptation to different resolutions.
Finally, we reorganized the narrative structure, separating the main story from individual character arcs. This makes it much easier to integrate new scenes, events, and characters as development continues.Thank you all again for the continued support ❤️More updates coming soon, and things are getting even more exciting 🚀
