While the vast majority of people appreciate access to The System and all the benefits that spring from it, from its prevention of uncontrolled Triggers to granting the average citizen the ability to defend themselves from megafauna, making the future retaking of large swaths of wilderness possible, and practically singlehandedly guaranteeing the survival of the human race…

Some idiots have questioned Paradox’s decision to grant humanity universal access to superpowers.

-          Capes and Cowls That Changed the Game: Paradox Chapter

People took it better than he thought. Only a handful of assassination attempts, poorly though out, and clearly just cries for attention.

Not to mention they used the low-level classes they had just acquired to make the attempts, which was a bit hypocritical.

Even after doling out the vast majority of his powers, nobody could hold a candle to what Perry could do. Nobody save a few specific individuals.

Tyrannus might be a bit of a problem eventually, Perry mused from time to time, But the dragon never seemed to pursue direct confrontation again. Perhaps he assumed that Perry had written some very specific trump cards into reality itself to deal with such a situation.

Perhaps he was right.

In any case, no more trouble came from the West.

Perry would’ve liked to sit back, put his feet up and enjoy a world where superheroes were the icing on the cake, rather than the only defense humanity had…

But the sheer amount of politics that resulted from disseminating The System was staggering. New laws, new infrastructure, new curriculums, a massive crime wave reminiscent of the eighties, which quieted down quickly as people realized that little old lady they intended to mug might very well be able to snap them over their knee.

Eventually, even that passed.

People adapted. Life moved on.

That was one of humanity’s greatest strengths, after all.

Perry couldn’t remember exactly what was going through his head when he made the choice to spread The System. Only a vague sense of unease when he directed his attention up to the sky above.

He knew that attempting to recall those memories could very well drive him insane, but sometimes he couldn’t help but itch at them.

One day. Perry thought one night, making a finger-gun at The Tide, sleeping in the shadow of the moon.

Maybe not me, maybe not my kids. But one of us. One of us insignificant humans will feed you to Abun’zaul.

After all, the legendary mimic was now everywhere.

“So you chose to remain human.” An unfamiliar voice called out from behind him.

Perry craned his neck to spot a woman whose ethnicity he couldn’t quite place. From context though…

“How was that peaceful village in ancient Greece?” Perry asked.

“Oh, we had a great time,” Jocelyn said, sitting down next to him. “Reggie died of a heart attack in his fifties, though. I looked after the village and our grandkids another twenty years before I died and regained myself. I can now do things with olives that you wouldn’t believe.”

“Shame.” Perry said with a shrug. “Still, fifty years is a pretty damn good vacation.”

“Mhmm.”

“I just wanted to see it through, you know? Have consequences for my actions…See my kids grow up.” Perry said, trying to justify turning down godlike power, both to himself and the unfathomable being he’d disappointed by refusing to join as a peer.

“You wanted The Human Experience.” Jocelyn said.

“Yeah.” Perry agreed, nodding. “I did.”

His eye twitched.

A moment later, he glanced over at the 4th dimensional, godlike being who was watching him with amusement.

“Did I…Am I…”

“Who knows?” Jocelyn said with a shrug and a devious smirk. “You’ll only find out for sure when you die.”

“You’re just messing with me.”

“We’ll see in a few centuries, Paradox.” Jocelyn said before vanishing into the 4th dimension.

A moment later she ducked her head back into the time stream so he could hear her.

“By the way, Reggie and I are reincarnating in Chicago, since it’ll be peaceful for a long time thanks to you. We’re gonna be adventurers!”

Perry waved her off.

What a mind-fuck.

That conversation had highlighted the unspoken theory that Paradox already was a being of unfathomable power, one of Jocelyn’s peers who had deliberately caused himself to be born as Paradox Zauberer, for a life of excitement, high adventure, and Real Consequences™.

There was a slim, but distinct possibility that Paradox was a higher-dimensional being’s vacation from the mundane, just as Jocelyn and Reggie had taken a vacation to the mundane.

Ah well. I’ll worry about it in a couple hundred years. Perry thought with a shrug. The prospect of living for an absurdly long time no longer scared him as much as it used to.

Not when Natalie and Heather were going to join him on that adventure.

Perry cocked his head as his inhuman hearing made out Sera having a meltdown over going to bed, while Gareth cried because his sister was crying. Heather was trying to calm them down while Nat was cleaning up the mess.

Well, time to get back to my adventure, I suppose. My super-team needs me. Perry thought, hopping off the roof and heading back inside their little home.Author's note: A bit short, but...I've never really written an epilogue before. Never finished a series before. Feels weird man. This represents book 4 of the series, and will be the endcap of the series for now.the book itself is shorter than the other 3, but I, for the life of me, couldn't justify stretching a battle with a guy who can turn into light over 200k words. Nuh-uh, not gonna happen.I'm currently working on some test-chapters for the next project, and will drop #1 for your perusal in a moment. It's early enough in the project that we can make big, sweeping changes to the course of the story if you comment, so if that's your thing, stick around.

Great day series, thanks for the adventure

Daedalus

Huzzah and thanks for the story! 'Twas quite the ride!

Joshua Gunty

Lovely little end cap, really enjoyed the series! I'm glad you ended it where you did, not sure there was anywhere else to go with his power creep that would have been particularly interesting, no stakes for a god. Looking forward to whatever's next.

lusR

Loved the story, thanks so much!

BubblyGhost

Well now that the epilogue is out I suppose I'll actually go and finish it. I don't know why it is with your works I always 'drop' them roughly 60ish chapters in so they build up, forget they exist, then come back after you're done writing lmao.

Roeland

Congrats man, been with you on and off since wake of the ravager . Love your stuff, you have some of the most interesting takes on the different genres. So i am really happy for me and you to see one finish !

Roeland

Also that last comment about the length of speed of light fight , lol and too true

Paratus

Enjoy your vacation, thanks for the story

Doodlyboy15

Love it, thanks for the fun ride. I'd say it was done pretty well

Crombell

I kinda wish there was a bit more everyday life towards the end, feels a bit abrupt to end the series with so many characters' whereabouts being unknown in the wake of the mimic arc. I understand if you're not much for epilogue arcs, though.

box boy b

just wanted to say this is a great end to one of my favrate books ill be sad to see it go but am exited to see what you creat next

Ungrave

That one guy I know can no longer call you the author who never finishes any of his stories. Congrats on the successful ending! I enjoyed this one a lot.

mhaj58

Great to see you actually finish a story, I hope you go back to Wake of the Ravager someday

Andrew

Thank you!

Sean

Super great story! I'll unsub for a bit but I've immensely enjoyed this all the way through. I hope I enjoy the next series just as much!

Richard Davis ll

You finally made it to the finish line and I gotta say I'm proud is that weird lol. I'll always love your stories man so you keep doing you and I'll stay along for the surely wild ride.

Krosh

What a wild ride man, thanks for letting us tag along!

ALargeClam

Nice work. It was a blast!

Michael Edwards

Wow. I can’t believe it’s over. I’ll admit I do wish there was a bit more of a wrap up, maybe some interactions between his parents, or Brandon, or the magical community. Maybe a short PoV from Billy or Marigold saying “well now he’s damn near untouchable”, or something expanding on what was going on with Chemestro at the end. It just felt extremely abrupt to me and I’d like a bit more of a send off. But maybe you hate writing endings or are itching to launch into the next project. Either way; thanks for the ride man. It’s been an absolute blast and I always look forward to reading whatever you put out next.

Hayden Leech

I love the 4d being theory! Puts a different spin on the talk about “waking up” and “dreaming”

Kote's chronicles

Wait. The series ended? Fuck. Author got eaten by a subpar mimic who isn't a perfect copy. Well rip I guess. =P Actually that joke can apply to almost every litrpg novel these days I think.

Jacob keaton

The funny thing is that I actually quite enjoy how you wrapped up the series. I did initially find the resolution of The Tide a little underwhelming - him being a little piece of a dream that waking up would cause him to rejoin is slightly lame when he is painted almost as a predator of the tide - but it’s fine. The epilogue just feels woefully short, which is what I find most disappointing. I don’t know if you are planning more, but I would have at the very least expected to check in on the major characters, see what their classes are. See what Chemistro chose as a class and what he’s up to, his impression of the resolution of everything. See what Stacy chose and how the Androids are coping with getting classes and finally interfacing with The Tide outside of Professor Replica. See what the Dragon and Granny hint at about what they might have slipped into reality, as well, how they are planning to use their classes. What about his parents? What sort of shenanigans are they up to with their new powers? Australia? The spiders? It’s be funny if the little one also got a class, especially if it sounded catastrophically dangerous. I bet that steampunk robot got something, too. Who knows what the unicorn chose. And then the mages! They are probably gearing up for taking back their home planet, chose things related to it or to magic in general, or stuff to get back at Paradox. Checking back on the other anchors, presuming they all survived, would be nice as well. Like, it’s the end of the series. This is the wrap up. You’ve created a bunch of interesting characters, and I would like to see how they are coping with this new world and what their plans are. It’s a perfect opportunity to give us an idea, through their own struggles and ideas to color the world a little and then let our imaginations paint in the rest. Plus there is room for other funny stuff like Brendan having a class of Brendan. Plus I feel as though you’ve almost abandoned magic catalysts. Maybe the Dragon’s researchers chose classes that can find those. Maybe Granny chose something similar. Is magic going to die now that there are classes, or will it be taken to new heights? That’s like the whole idea behind the series! Using science to make magic. I guess I was more dissatisfied than I thought. Honestly, with the amount you left on the table here between anchors, antagonists, friends, aliens, allies, and even politics, this epilogue could very easily been cut into several chapters and caught you up to the word count of the other books. I hope that is still your plan. These characters and this world deserve more than a pat on the back and little light flirting with existential panic. But overall thoroughly enjoyed the series.

Cyrus McEnnis

Loved the series, thought you wrapped it up at close to the perfect time. The 'stryra Arc was solid, the last little bit... like others, I'd enjoy a little more closure on the world. An update on Chemestro. Maybe some callbacks to the unfired Checkov's Gauss Cannons like Jetset. That sort of thing. But at the end of the day I loved reading the story, and it was interesting till the end. Can't ask for more than that.

Baines

thank you for the series, loved it

Khent Mercer

This was an incredible trip that I hold up to, and maybe above, Sanderson's Reckoner series. Good job sir.

Ziggoid

That was great! Thanks for all the fish.

Pastor Joubert

I miss the rest of the cast. Short stories and mini-series. Chemistro spin-off mini. That drainer boy we all forget spin-off mini.

austin kutz

Chemistro spin off - it's three weeks after the discrimination of the system and he hasn't picked a class yet. He's still trying to figure out which class has the most theoretical synergy with his existing powers. He's stuck between water mage and athlete.

Dlandis

Best ending for a story of this nature that I have read in quite some time, I'm sure everyone else can, and will, agree that you are quite awesome.

Austin Caudill

Did you intentionally aim for him to achieve CHIM or was that something you weren't familiar with?

DM

Thank you for a wonderful ride through this story. The ending is lovely.

DM

Yeah Reckoners was depressing

Tovath

Congratulations on finishing! Loved the story, good luck with future writing! Maybe a space opera or something!

anthony Ellison

I truly enjoyed this ride and thanks for having us alongside you! Whacky, zanny, with all the hopes and joys. You didn't leave us with loose ends though a few questions remain. I do enjoy when the hero does get the happy ending, even if he had to work hard for it. Thanks again and have a great one!

Zachary furst

I had to pay for this once I heard it was finished. Absolutely fucking worth it.

HenryMorgan

Thanks for the closure and i enjoyed the ending.

Patron1kj6tz

"couple hundred years" okay, did I miss something? Shouldn't his lifespan by multiplied by over 100k? Or did spreading the system drop his all stats instead of just Attunement?

tobias merz

Congratulations 🎈🍾

DerpNugget

This was a Good End to the story :)

Kiew

Thank you. That was a wild ride. That was an amazing wild ride.

Emily Gurnavage

Dang, done again. Always a good read. That final book is just such a great culmination of everything.
