So i was just idly thinking about Will's adventure to get to the Key Sites inside zombie Steve, and I realized:I've previously mentioned the looping nature of the tower, and prior heroes, prior civilizations, etc, and how there have been multiple instances of Will's role as the last hero of the age.AND! This is Floor 11, so there could be some remnant of the world that came before inside Steve. A snake the size of a continent probably digests slowly. if there was cool ancient lore ANYWHERE, it would be inside him.I remember i made a reference to how one guy saw a piece of his former town several floors up and lost his mind. What kind of ancient...stuff could be preserved inside the dead snakes guts that could give us readers more LORE!?Ezykial the serpent? Will's orphanage? A hint about something that hasn't happened yet? A robot? Sealed deity from topside? Vincent might've killed the thing but he didn't actually explore Steve's guts.We got all of tonight and a bit of tomorrow to brainstorm. I'll leave this post up overnight then sort through the comments with lots of upvotes to see which ones i like the best.

The wreckage of a ship with a skeleton and a wooden puppet

CoveringStorm

A slightly smaller matryoshka Steve

Moon Winchester

I feel like a giant mural of a previous iteration of Will. Not Ezekiel, the serpent, but a beast, summoning or beast taming version of Will. And Steve, the giant serpent is the last remaining connection to that iteration. The serpent was his pet snake from outside the towerwho slowly grew bigger.

Joshua Gunty

Reese travel journal, surely Reese of all people has been inside Steve before.

Enzo Elacqua

I feel like we already have immortals so another old robot wouldn’t be all that interesting. I’d be keen to see maybe an older version of the systems miasmic structure for Will to see, thus giving him some inspiration for how to dissect his own. Could be inside a corpse of one of his past lives companions, or maybe there’s a huge pile of cut off hands where one of his past selves was testing out how it interacts with the system.

Joseph Bermingham

A series of light sources that progressively get lower tech, a flash light, a glow stone, a torch. People have come here before and they are less advanced every time

Runus

The Steve inside Steve's Steve.

Michael

Please it’d be so funny, doesn’t even have to be the main event just a side one

Runus

An ancient bakery fully of yeasty horrors

SirReality

Previous church iterations showing different or changing relations between the gods. Like current steadfast allies being rivals or enemies.

SirReality

Seems basic, but a depiction of the tower with clearly fewer floors, and more Lords.

J Burns

The preserved skeletons/corpses of a previous iteration of the Hero and his Companions. Not just the previous version of William, but the previous Loth and company too

Emily Gurnavage

Im totally on board for Will's orphanage/chunk of his home town. But also: There could be like a ridiculous number of whatever Zodiac's city is called in there. Like a whole lil asteroid field of em. Not quite cookie cutter cities but identical enough to know they are the "same" city. . Messages again! Maybe carved on Steve's bones somewhere? I really liked the death seed power plant thing where past iterations of Will had left a series of messages for those who came next. . I second Josh's idea for Reese's travel journal lmao. . A variety of air transport machines? Like a bunch of different planes, air balloons, space ship lookin stuff, etc from people who flew too close to Steve. Some could have journals or repeating distress signal audio or something lore wise. . Edit: An old research station! Surely an advanced society would want to study inside a living Steve with a creature *that* huge.

J Burns

Its steves all the way down

Emily Gurnavage

Love this one. Depending on how long the Steve adventure is meant to be, there could be a series of them or pages found along the way.

Ethan B.

A NEW TOMAHAWK FOR WILL!! Sorry for the yelling but of any relic I could think of that would be dope to me, that or a really good bangle considering all Wills have one hand missing.

Joshua Gunty

That was my thinking, each less helpful than the last, to the point that Will can be pretty sure Reese is fucking with him from the past.

Bunny Waffles

The secret to baking the Perfect Loaf of Bread.

Emily Gurnavage

The huge pile of cut off hands near some especially interesting miasmic structure carvings/records of some sort sounds great.

McIntosh Ewell

A glossary of miasmatic structures and instructions on how to create them

ReadingObsessed

A water park from the surface made to run off electricity. Or churches to forgotten gods.

Prinny Knight

How about an isolated city with people still living in it, generations of families living in complete denial of the outside world.

Jk

I’m a sucker for “has to fight copies of himself if he’d taken a different path” arcs Maybe he meets a version of himself that was raised by his actual parents Maybe he has to fight Priest Will, a version of himself that was press-ganged into service for the church. Maybe he meets a version of himself that settled down with brianna outside the tower to open a bakery.

Max Sanders

A taste of the matrix. A floor designed to enable rapid skill growth but it makes the climber question if any of the tower is real

Gaunt

Something from the immortals history. The one who delivered the message of the bread box.

CoveringStorm

An almanac of class creation Ancient civs that lasted multiple coils probably had civilian class creation down to a science so they could get exactly what they wanted, though fighting classes would probably be more secretive.

Austin Athman

Inside stove? Thats just where all the rest of the giant's went. Afterall, once Will inevitably blows up the entire corpse graveyard, thus killing enough zombies to trap the worm in vinnys head!

SirReality

Notes from the previous coils' versions of their party/expedition. Possibly including museum tour-esque narration. "To your left is where Will says, dang' ". Think Blink from Doctor who.

Edmango

What about holdna or the scientist he recovered with a photo of oroborous, blows his mind in a confirming kinda way since he can't remember the quest. Or a photo from that arc of will that shouldn't exist

Asheric

Steve is actually will's very very distant relative... steve oh.

Natalie

Yea definitely some old class creation docs, found in the offices of former Zodiacs (previous Lords of the Floor who slipped up and let Steve have a good old nibble on their Citadel, maybe even a past incarnation of Zodiac himself)

Natalie

Finds journal, page 1: Well I'm cooked, I got eaten by the snake, here's my last will and testemant and all that jazz. Page 2: Wait why is there a copy of my last will and testemant in the huge ass snake that just ate me, in my own handwriting... Page 247: Hi again journal, I slipped up again and forgot that..... Will: Da fuq?

FossilWreckers

Remember when Will was fighting kaith in the cave and found the metal bunker? Something like that.

Eman

The inspiration and/or item needed to create/implant a synthetic system into his systemless hand. If artificial sacrifices exist and methods to alter whole floors, maybe someone thought to create an artificial system before but just couldn't at the time for plot reasons.

Natalie

Oh this has some interesting potential right here

Natalie

That's an interesting idea, can a new Will come into being if the old Will is still alive? What if he encounters an actual previous Will that got eaten and couldn't escape, but has also taken an upgrade that allowed Immortality. Or near Immortality and it shows that previous Will died suspiciously recently, only [insert Wills age + 1 year] ago

ALargeClam

Some internal parasite bug creatures that have formed a primative society that mimics some faded etchings all around some weird metal ruin.

Natalie

It turns out Steve was actually Stephanie and had been gestating an egg. Now that she's dead there's an unclaimed Contenen Snake egg that is still just about viable.

Natalie

No it has to be a Starbucks

Arnon Parenti

The workshop where they built the stars of the first floor, with unfinished products and OSHA warnings to wear helmets and protective goggles at all times and this is literally where all the Classes came from and obscure instruction manuals about not abusing the System with too many artificial sacrifices and never use humans to prevent a second creation of the kobold and cat girl races

Natalie

Imagine a super early loop city that has super durable tech and they basically find a home theater with a bunch of recordings of the cities last moments just before/after being eaten up.

Cameron

A jedi temple, complete with instructions on how to make a workable lightsaber. Very useless because stat wise it's not up to par, but makes for a good cooking tool.

Josh Smith

a ruin of a church of holdna, featuring a mural of a one handed individual with a snake wrapped around the arm missing the appendage. The mural includes some historic/prophetic details, and includes the name of the one handed individual. It will be one of the names that Will would recognize from the facility that he got the synthetic sacrifice from on Ghoul's floor. Edit:OH, it can also give a depiction of will's dad! Edit 2: perhaps the mural depicts how this particular one handed individual dies. Acting as both a hint for Will, but also a red herrings of sorts due to it not being identical.

Natalie

This one is good, but I think that was probably the completely dead floor that pioneered that for the ever increasingly deepening "outside" as it was described as being essentially built of "glass and blessed steel" and I think life would have choked out long before 11 coils without one of them implementing some life support systems before then

RAQN

- Prophetic murals/poems inscribed into a ruins from the previous Prophet. Involves the last 'Deceiver' and also a fun foil to see how this current iteration is far different. Also foreshadows a future event that might be - Some evidence that Will's dad was here. Trickle in some more info about him since it's been a core 'mystery' that's technically been solved, but we haven't seen anything actionable about that guy/snake - You've shown three races so far and always said their culture is far away. Maybe it's time to show some of it. Certainly, it'd be interesting and add depth if the ruins showed why the Graneshian Church only likes humans and hates all other races because of some incident in the far past - One of the biggest flaws that I personally see in world building is that, if each cycle causes a new floor to be added, every floor we see was once floor 1. And yet... a lot of them are beyond dangerous for floor 1? Maybe some evidence of when this was a lower floor. Monsters that have survived with way lower stats, or relics, or something - Relics from higher floors that are here because climbers died on their way down or tossed 'junk'. Potentially also when this was a much lower floor. Imagine this was once floor 1, and floor 20 is floor 10. Very reasonable hints at future floors based on the items that appear - Old Library with records of builds and sacrifices from past Coils. Plenty of space for extinct species, builds lost to time that now Will can try to remake, and more lore tidbits to be found - An old giant's bone mine that this thing ate, which includes a dead crafter's workshop to speed Will along in his crafting designs - Adding onto the above... hints on Ghoul before he was a ghoul. I just like the character and want to know his story more

Quazzy

Its a good place for a manitia/Ravager's Abyss, esp. if u lean into the fact that there are TWO brain gremlins since Loth's along for the ride. Id love to see them dorking out abt the ancient civilizations and monsters from long past! Bonus points if a ruins have been taken over and tapped into by cunning semisapient monsters (like, animals that can mimic runes (spiders that lay complex traps and weave runes?), NOT a weird problematic subhuman civilization). Seeing esoteric approaches to magic and getting his ass kicked by it is always a rly cool arc, and with Loth there to make the usually solitary exploration sooooo much more interesting? And to also benefit greatly from the rune-weaving spiders and their approach to trapping! I chose runes because giants are often portrayed as using magical runes, and from there trap-setting pattern-mimicking spiders are just the natural next step to make the ruins feel lived in, especially with Loth there.

matt

an older will

Quazzy

TLDR ancient giant ruins with strange magicks and spiders that have evolved to copy those magicks, both giving beloved Loth an upgrade AND an opportunity to be cute with Will, inspiring a sense of scale and immense age, tying it into the extant floor lore, and giving an excuse to make it genuinely dangerous AND way too tempting (remember that steve is a bomb!) for the two little lordlings.

Mus

Miasma acclimation token, let's user become fully acclimated to any floor ( maybe upto some floor) once

Mus

Ship/vessel in bottle quick transport

Mus

The s graffiti that shows up on earth across cultures and countries. Aka. Cool S, or universal s

DrSubterfuge

Pounds fist on table Ghoul Lore! Ghoul Lore! Ahem. Yeah I like the idea of using this to shore up the fact that somehow this was once a lower floor.

Shyt

There’s a myth in a rural part of Middle East that a golden dragon lays inside of a mountain. We could have a version of Steve that’s sentient and has created a body of a golden dragon to basically live rent free in his body. Basically golden dragon would be the real Steve and Steve is a living place for the golden dragon. (I’m yapping to much)

Crispined Glover Potato Snacks

Since it is explicitly digestion, this seems to be an opportunity for some more Sets to be discovered. If Steve ate an ark full of people from earlier coils kept in stasis and slowly melted in Steve's miasmatic stomach acid that would be ideal conditions for the accidental formation of a Set.

Ral

Omg that is a lot of comments to read through and up vote the best.

Nate

Black Pearl lookalike?

Nate

Irrelevant comment but bit sad Steve is dead, kinda grew attached.

Darren Deloach

He is actually a climber with a bad upgrade/evolution

s476

A new molt of Steve?

Santiago Gil de Loño

A space shuttle with some rich people from the 9th floor. They would have wonderful tech like digital journals, audio records, some videos and cryogenic section.

Garbonzo

There could be a section that is identical to the forest/campsite where Will was pushed into the Class Trial Room by Ben. Maybe there’s even a big population of Willow Wisps to remind Will of the similarity.

HUAAAANG

Obviously madness. Say, a robot orphanage of sealed deities overseen by Ezykial. On a more serious note, prophecies in a bottle. Or some other vessel.

Mus

That's what I was thinking of haha

Gibby

A McDonald's. Or some other fast food restaurant or capitalist megacop thing that Will won't understand but the readers will

Aidan Roberts

Try something like a One Piece lore drop. Like the harley text. like more details on the fight between granesh and ouroboros. maybe a diary or hologram. Put it in like a big ass spaceship or sumin

GryphonKnight

A stuffed tiger with “Hobbes” written on the fabric tag

GryphonKnight

A robot, tending a nest of cyber cockroach scouts, eternally searching the ruins of a wrecked military base for survivors

GryphonKnight

Four skeletons, each with a single relic. All four relics are 1 item of 20 item sets (the typical Munchkin Min/ Max players dream of wearing 10 finger rings, two different gloves and two different boots) with insane, god like bonuses, for a full set

GryphonKnight

The journal of a climber that is one floor from the top of the 12 floor tower

GryphonKnight

An item, that when broken, creates a doorway to the top of the tower. But it is only 5 mm by 2 mm

GryphonKnight

Reese’s leather wallet including his driver’s license

GryphonKnight

A living Devil and a living Angel fighting eternally in a stalemate

Silver

A species that migrate to newer islands as old ones are digested

GryphonKnight

A Starbucks, AND a Dunkin Donuts, AND the Canadian chain (Tim?) It is weird, near the border, to run into competing coffee chains. Like you have entered an alternate Earth

GryphonKnight

A photo album of Will’s mom before she met his dad

GryphonKnight

A functional, combat training, golem (or robot) that is clearly from an absurdly high floor

GryphonKnight

A classic storage ring, but it can only store Mountain Dew soda, and only contains 3 unopened cans

GryphonKnight

A living snake that is actually a portal to an alternate dimension where a doomed civilization fled the ending of their coil. Beings can only enter, not exit. The party debates sending a Tangled copy inside, but decides it is too dangerous. They immediately find a golem, a robot, a spirit, a fae, and a kitten that are also escape portal just like the snake

GryphonKnight

A party of very high level climbers descending the Tower So powerful they don’t even realize their campsite was eaten by Steve One of them knows Will’s Mom

GryphonKnight

A Sentient weapon (sword, gun, robot, car, spaceship, etc.) from a higher floor that has gone insane and become a pacifist. Knows Reese

GryphonKnight

The Norworm’s natural predator. Which is a worse threat than the Norworm. Causing our party to ally with the Norworm

GryphonKnight

So much dead, and undead, in this story The party finds a cruise / pleasure space ship from a bright, happy, love filled floor that tries to seduce the party Revealing the Tower does not have to kill a party to stop its climb. It can also bribe them

GryphonKnight

A City filled with horny sex crazed college students. That are all plant based beings (reproduction through pollination) so it is a spore orgy, all the time. The city’s government is run by mineral based beings (reproduction through lava pools) uneffected by the various spores, and their side effects Once Loth helps the party recover from various spores caused shenanigans, and gain temporary immunity, they discover classes on everything from Coil History to Tower Classes to Miasmic Structures But the Professors (all extremely long lived plant, or mineral based, beings) are on semester break, and not expected back for a decade or so 🎬

Marlin

Tower lore from the advanced civilization that messed with the 8th and 9th floors. Another classless immortal like Reese, stuck inside Steve’s gut. Immortal serpents living inside the big (formerly mortal) serpent, maybe with traces of Thomas Oh, like his real name. Ruins from a society that worshipped one of the tower’s gods. A bigass skeleton from a higher floor monster Will hasn’t seen yet. A skeleton from one of Will’s past lives along with hints of why the Tower wants Will to climb and what happens if he doesn’t make it.

Thomas Issa

Lots of ruins, island remnants, and wand making technology

SunderGoldmane

I like this idea alot. Maybe its a totaly different archaic language and comes with drawings of a 12 floor tower.

SunderGoldmane

Sometime way back when this storyies lore was being kicked around on discord, someone mentioned that maybe the initial premise of the tower was a highly sophisticated match making resort. The ai was designed to pair you with you partner. I think we were talking about how maybe the initial party maker quest was a hold over from that eras programming. It would be really great if he found like a love hotel or something that harkened back to “floor 1” before it got turned into a kind of cosmic sinkhole.

SunderGoldmane

Inwant to see a classroom with an old school tube tv with vcr combo and its playing an introduction video to powers like how Industrial Strength Magic ended in my head XD

SunderGoldmane

Any kind of reference to ISM really. I always think of the tower as some kind of Paradox Zauberer creation.

Patron1kj6tz

Another set of messages from previous Will variants. Ezykial was here How many of us get eaten by this thing? -Castavell

Patron1kj6tz

A structure that LOTH recognizes as being almost incidental to the hive(? or whatever kobolds have) she grew up in, just a little more refined because it was made by less degraded kobolds.

Frank

I think there should be a second smaller Steve inside Steve to fit with the whole Ouroboros theming. Steve shall be eternal

Gorane

I agree, I think Steves physiology allowing them to carry their offspring inside them would be cool and could be a moment where Will uses his "natural affinity with snakes" to tame them. Sounds like a proper William Oh story, that he can even tame star-snakes

Gorane

Yes! We need more Loth backstory!

Gorane

A spaceship from several coils ago

Chase

A previous version of Will who did his thing until he just decided to chill at some point.

Gorane

A cloning machine (that works on midssmatic creatures) and DNA bank of a lot of creatures who are good sacrifices but dont exist in the tower anymore. Combo thid with a sacrifice catalogue and voila

Gorane

A problem would be that you cant have children in the tower. But ofc this could be solved with steve and some technology isolating pregnant women from miasma, just like loths bugs do

Gorane

A genious idea

Gorane

We havent had a gamechanger relic in a while - a relic that counters undead in a weird way. Basicslly it revives undead creatures based on how much of their original body and mind is left. It could be a crazy way to counter the worm. Maybe it could work on Duncan himself as he has has "Unliving one" or something as a skill. If will can temporarely make him "alive" for his own skills, he would be much weaker.

Gorane

Could lead to a way of stoping the restriction of people, who have died, not being able to become lords. If will revives their body w the relic the tower revival didnt take place and they can lord it up

Gorane

Will has had the "Deceiver’s Molt" skill as an option. It heals and lets him create a copy of himself, that can follow some instructions. Basically, what if a previous him maxed out that skill and the copys are sentient? And what if some relic has stoped a previous Decievers copy from getting destroyed after the original body died?

Federico

It's been a while since he met the memory of other deceivers, maybe he could abosrb the memory of a previous cycle.

Alex Reed

This is a good opportunity to develop any characters that you want to add depth to. Maybe explore the history of the kobolds. Maybe give reese some more origin story.

Patron1kj6tz

While that seems like something a sufficiently advanced civilization would make, narratively it would be too powerful without some kind of significant limit/cost/drawback. Maybe it has a stock of some material that it imprints miasmatic structures into turning them into sacrifices but there's only a small amount of the stuff left and the technology to make more of it is just gone. Though a list of "these monsters tend to give these kinds of upgrades and here's where to find them" would still be useful without being game breaking.

Hudson Hohimer

Something about Will’s dad! We know he’s an offshoot or aspect or related to Ouroboros, Steve probably is too, maybe Will’s parents or a previous coil’s version of Will’s parents have a base/set of logs/ left a message there because they knew he’d one day see it.

Patron1kj6tz

Robogunsword: "Oh THAT guy. Yeah we haven't been on speaking terms since the noodle incident." Loth (non-existent eyebrow raised): "Were literal noodles involved?" Robogunsword: "Yes." Will (confused): "Why wouldn't there be noodles in something called a noodle incident?"

Patron1kj6tz

My understanding is that new floors are added to the bottom of the tower. Which means some poor coil had to deal with Kaiju as their trial. Though they would have been a lot weaker as floor 1 monsters.

Patron1kj6tz

Someone would need abilities that give extra relic slots for that to work. Which if someone could somehow get Phantom Hand without sacrificing their own hand they would effectively have 11 slots and there has to be some combination of upgrades that would allow for multiple relics to equipped at once.

Patron1kj6tz

No the Burger King truck that can be deployed into war zones.

Scott

A kobold settlement. Due to circumstances they believe that Loth is the incarnation of their god, or some such and worship her. This could also be an alternative route to finding her dragon sacrifice. At the very least, some new and unusual bugs for her collection. Bees and or ants in which their hive is in a pocket dimension and they can all enter or exit it at will. Loth of course befriends the queen(s)

Quazzy

okayyy but then from an outside perspective Will went inside Steve and out popped some baby snakes ;-;

Johannes Diehl a

Jo thx for the brainstorm. Would also love some more lore about the cycles and previous Wills.. U know what I mean. Some cool and dangerous shit would be great, more like a relic with drawback/curse. Love the story btw!!! Big Thx!

Ryan Nicolle

I would absolutely love to see another situation like on the 8th floor and the seeds of undeath, previous incarnations having been and left their mark. However, someone else mentioned deceivers, and a memory thing like before would be awesome! Maybe someone who witnessed the floors 1-5 hole being created?

Sol

If this has all happened before... how is Steve alive?

Raymond Doherty

Definitely wanna see at least semi-intelligent parasitic type creatures living in Steve’s internal biome and worshipping him as a god/the entire universe and having prophecies about Will’s coming as a destroyer. I know the Fae already had that, but I just kinda love that type of thing

alex godbeer

Maybe the zombie Steve is just a snake skin molt and there's a baby Steven inside

Joe ?

I like the idea of another Steve, and maybe like some advice about an aspect of norworms that we haven't seen yet but some other past version has. A sealed God could be cool too.

Natalie

How is Bakton or Akul, or Will for that matter. They aren't literally the same being (except for Reese, the immortal Serpents, and maybe one or two other actually immortal people like Ghoul maybe) but rather archetypes that follow the same patterns and are living through similar times. They aren't carbon copies but they are very very similar. Hence why Reese talked about a possible alternative timeline where Will had discovered and cleaned up the Faefire set before Fabron found it.

Natalie

"Will is so virile he once got a man pregnant" From another cosmology Shiv shouts out in annoyance at a certain Orc.

McIntosh Ewell

It seems like at least some of the kids killed by the church were alive at the same time as Will

McIntosh Ewell

I like the idea of additional non-human societies. So far it's humans, kobolds, the other race we encountered on the Oilton floor (floor 5?), and monsters. I mean, yeah some of the monsters are pretty social, like the elves and head crabs. But it's kinda strange to me that there aren't more races/species blending in with society.

McIntosh Ewell

I will hug him and squeeze him and call him George(ette?)

McIntosh Ewell

Not to mention the sacrifice recipes for making various force user archetypes. I feel like a laser sword would scale up pretty nicely with the right materials

Benjamin Walsh

The time when he went into a hidden ruin and found notes from his previous selves was cool… more of that. Or some relics from pre-tower, as that was cool too.

Darren B

A set of pre coil cutlery, that has William Oh's likeness on it

Tock Blue

less have hyper specific ideas than topics that could get hit. artifacts or entities or Something Isn't Right-s would be a good angle to introduce prior cycle's almost-successes, or to show how the tower scours, to answer questions. if this is a Matrix Zion situation, is it a monster wave? automata? abilities becoming useless or a new type of energy? have any prior cycles' civilizations come close to surviving intact? are there other survivors a little less crack potted by the experience? is there something or someone interceding to allow something to survive each time? something to illustrate that the stakes are different this time? the extent of survival and exploration up into higher levels (including world serpents and higher level characters like world expansion has slowly stalled out lately, feels like- threading more into What Next would be good. the early encounter with a control room helped flesh out the scope, but just as well there could be something to signpoint William and co toward building and elevating others as much as increasing personal power. a stark lesson of some kind from a prior cycle's failure?

TheShadowSlayer_

Steve himself, obviously. Steve is both inside the 11th floor, AND the 11th floor , in the way looped space is. If you want to be interesting, maybe entering Steve put you into a version of the 11th floor that backwards or forwards in time, and managing to get out of his mouth from the default for sent you in the other direction? Although you’d have to nerf it so it’s not full on time travel.
