Since we're doing heavy level-ups, some of you wanted to know more about the process. I took the questions, broke them apart and answered them to the best of my ability.

Hopefully this helps buildcrafting.basic summary of what each stat doesStrength: Increases physical strength by 5% per point. Scales warrior abilities.

Resistance: protects from physical harm, makes the body tougher, and has an effect on endurance. 5% per point. scales ranger Abilities.

Kinesthetics: The ability to move in the manner one envisions. Affects learning, speed of combat, and how quickly one integrates new techniques and adapts to new challenges. 5% per point. scales rogue abilities.

Acuity: The five senses. 5% per point. Scales nuker/mage abilities.

Focus: Mental fortitude. The ability to focus on a single thing and pursue it doggedly until it is achieved. Mostly affects magic/mental defense and magic regen. Scales Necro and summoner Abilities.how sacrifices and upgrades work

Every 5 levels, the character gets a Primary Upgrade.

Every 10 levels, the character gets either a Secondary Upgrade or an Ability.

Every 30 levels, the character gets a Tertiary Ability. Tertiaries cannot be upgraded.

To perform an Upgrade, the user can sacrifice a piece of a monster to alter an Ability thematically in line with the creature’s powerset, provided it has the slots available.

To gain a new Ability from the Secondary or Tertiary, the user chooses from a list generated by all the sacrifices they have made in their Class thus far.

the differences between different ranks of sacrifices and how they affect your build

Sacrifices are ranked by how many stat per level they give. Abilities gained from higher ranked Sacrifices also have more max upgrade slots.

S-rank = 5 stats per level, 9 upgrade slots

A = 4 stats per level, 6 upgrade slots

B= 3 stats per level, 4 upgrade slots.

C = 3 stats per level, 3 upgrade slots.

D = 2 stats per level, 1-3 upgrade slots.

F =1 stat per level, 1 upgrade slot.

This answers most of the questions AG had, I believe. Comment if there’s anything else you’d like me to clarify for anyone else.

Christian Sedlak

are the increases per stat point multiplicative or additive, i.e. is +2 strength a 10% increase, or a 10.25% increase

Siwy

What if an ability is a combination of multiple sacrifices of different ranks? Does it take the highest amount of upgrades?

Macronomicon

Additive. I think Will would be splitting atoms with his fists if it were multiplicative.

Christian Sedlak

is the rank of the sacrifice based on the level of the source creature, which tower level it comes from, how rare it is, or some combination?

Macronomicon

yeah, lets go with the higher one. there's gotta be a reason they're valuable. plus, Will's Phantom hand is a combination of uru drake and his hand, so if we picked the lower one, that wouldn't work, since his hand is +4 stats.

Christian Sedlak

the stat points are additive across the three sacrifices right? are the upgrade slots? (I feel like I should know this, but for the life of me that feels like so many more)

Macronomicon

A lot of that is artistic license, which usually equates to how rare/difficult it is to fight.

Macronomicon

no, we just go with whichever sacrifice had the higher number of upgrade slots for each Ability.

Christian Sedlak

do sacrifices to upgrade abilities count toward the sacrifices used to determine new ability options?

Siwy

Also, do the stats really have a set type of class they scale with? A tank would usually fall under the warrior category, which would make them scale off of strength instead of resistance, which is the stat that helps you actually tank. This is of course when we assume tank builds just aren't required to build into rangers to be good

Christian Sedlak

fair, a stat of 100 would "only" be 131.5x base, but one of 200 would be ~17.3k x base ... though now part of me wants to do the math and see what strength would be required to actually split an atom with a punch 😅

Macronomicon

Yes. at least, i've played it that way generally.

Macronomicon

I think there's some wiggle room back and forth. it's not completely set. but yeah, i would put Tanks more into the Resistance scaling category rather than the Strength category.

Siwy

That is... Wow Dedication to say the least lol Funnily enough it might come in handy for me so I appreciate the effort!

Garnet of Flame

Thanks for this! I thought that sacrifice upgrades and level-based upgrades were different things so this cleared it up for me. Basically you can upgrade abilities with a sacrifice based on your level, but the amount of times each ability can be upgraded with sacrifices is also limited by the quality of the initial class sacrifice. Correct?

Drakenclaw

Thanks. One question: What happens if someone only has 3 F tier sacrifices? Can they potentially run out of slots to upgrade?

Siwy

Yeah, I think it's also just the case of putting too many things in one box, like tank being in the warrior category most of the time I believe there could probably be a few more archetypes added to the list, like tank, debuffer (Who at least based on items and will's serpent abilities seem to scale with focus quite a bit?), crafters (who I also can't imagine all use resistance like Will? Kinesthetics would most likely fit most "flavors" of a crafter) I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but I think it could be worthwhile to try and see if there's any more archetypes worth outlining from the "base" Oh and I apologize if I sound a bit "judgy", it's just something I put my mind to when creating some builds a while back! The flavor of the class would usually take the priority for me, rather than the base archetype of the class

Ethan B.

Thank you!!!

AG

Thanks

AG

Just checking the only way to gain more primary abilities is to undergo a class advancement and make one of your secondary or tertiary abilities into a primary right? also secondary abilities have less slots then primary abilities but how is that determined? Like if my primary abilities have S-rank number of slots will my secondary abilities have A-rank number of slots?

D2FU

Is there an upper limit to the gains from stats or could someone theoretically scale infinitely?

Macronomicon

The System doesn't like infinite loops, therefore somebody would explode before they went infinite.

kaiki

This makes me wonder for the quality of his hand sacrifice. We know it got upgraded when he sacrificed the serpent, but would at some point he become more rare then the sacrificial serpent meaning he could sacrifice his hand to improve quality again?

Pati

So would a normal Bear be rank F or C?

Lockwood

Go read the "Industrial Strength Magic" series if you want some shenanigans on that level. Highly suggest

Christian Sedlak

Oh, I absolutely have lol, more than once, top rated series 👍

Quazzy

And if you're talking about via levelling, there are only so many floors :/

Quazzy

iirc secondaries always have a max of 2 slots? But what about someone who sacrificed mundane sheep to the tower (and somehow managed to get a secondary)?

Macronomicon

probably F or less. It doesn't have any magic in there to create a Class seed with.

Siwy

I believe the level of the hand comes from the fact he is a "hero" and a child of a serpent rather than his own power. Even before he acquired his class his hand was already considered an amazing sacrifice as seen by his stat growth, although the description of his hand wasnt shown early on

McIntosh Ewell

Could someone build another Tower to get past that reservation against infinite scaling? Something to accumulate miasma and do interesting things with it that go beyond what any individual Climber (or Lordship) can do?

Patron1kj6tz

How high level would a climber need to be for a piece of them to count as a S-rank sacrifice? Loth's level 15 grandma apparently counted as a D-rank sacrifice since Trap Savant started with only 2 upgrade slots

Pati

Not sure if we're coming up with unique background characters for future vasils or abilities he can get, but I was looking through the sacrifices, and I had an idea. (Edit: Acidently hit go before i got the rest out. ) Etherial Metallic Slime+Kincaid Lord of Flesh+Attrition could probably make some sort of Industrial metalworker or something. Just from the two sacrifices we have stats for, they'd be getting +2 resistance, +3 acuity, +2 strength, +1 focus, +1 kinesthetics, with aspects of Glutony, Growth, Creation, Poison, Fecundity, and large Radius Meta. The Etherical Metallic Slime would probably grant Metal, Etherial, and Polymorphic abilities. Its Probably a rank A sacrifice from being a Raid Boss, it was tough, fast, heavy ability use, and hit hard, but I don't remember it having any impressive senses beyond touch/sight. So it's probably a +1 Res, Str, Foc, and Kin at the most spread out, which would leave the theoretical class with +3 Res, +3 acuity, +3 strength, +2 Focus, and +2 Kinesthetics. Just thinking up a couple of combos for abilities he could have i came up with Traveling Refinery/Tool for the job (Etheric, Metal, Polymorphic, Creation, Mabey: Large Radius and Glutony): a skill to refine and shape metal, he might be able to store some ethereally. Ethereially stored material might be more responsive to his shaping, so at lower levels, he can basically summon whatever tool he needs. Refined Metal is improved in some way. Industrial Digestion: Something that just straight up improves his ability to digest, a side benefit of making his guts, mouth, and teeth tougher and resisting poisons and disease. Might provide a power up of some kind, like analysing substances, or an XP boost, or a temporary stat buff. Metalic Homunculi/Steel Offspring (Fecundity, Creation, Metal/Etheric): Create little metal dudes. It might be that he has to defeat/eat/understand something to be able to make homunculi out of them. Don't know, could be scouts, maids, or cannon fodder, would probably need a couple of sacrifices to get it combat viable and scalable. Iron Clad (metal, Polymorphic): Metal Armor self-repairs and provides a boost of some kind. Might need another sacrifice to get this ability to work, a turtle or something. Heavy Metal Poisoning (Poison, Large radius and Metal): Poison a creature, has a chance to stick around and spread to others. Some sort of terrain absorption: Kincaid and Attrition both affected large swaths of area, maybe something Mining, themed / pollution/Glutonny?
