Go ahead and give me suggestions for spells that have been  industrialized! If it's good, it might find it's way into Perry's repertoire. In order to establish the rules, I'll explain how my magic headcanon works in this universe.

Magical ingredients have an Essence inside of them, and you activate those essences by performing a specific ritual. When the essences mix, they create a magical effect.

Modern magic (his moms) is all done internally off the cuff using symbiotic spirits that can produce these Essences on demand. Unfortunately, Perry is restricted to the old, slow way of performing magic, BC his dad is a jerk.To get a spell, you need one or more magical ingredients, and a highly specific ritual to convince the ingredients to mix.

Examples: The growth spell. Unicorn dung and glowstone. each have an essence inside them. one is triggered by invoking the name of the unicorn, the other is triggered by applying sunlight. Once both are triggered, the essences mix and become magic.

Paralysis dart: Suggested by someone (and I liked it)

dart goes in, has a hypodermic needle at the tip which allows blood to backflow into the hollow dart. Inside the dart is somnus lotus pollen (or whatever) that when mixed with blood and formed into a specific phrase or design, will render the owner of the blood unconscious.

In the above example there is 2 essences, the blood's and the flower's, and the ritual is mixing them and making a pattern with them. all of which can happen inside a tiny hollow dart.

Summoning ritual: slightly more advanced.

A specific creature can be summoned by putting a certain combination of magical ingredients in the center of a hexagon made of a material they find anathema, with burning candles at the corners, and their name repeated X number of times, or some such.

INdustrialized version: The hexagon is made out of silver chains, the candles are barbed anchors topped with phosporous or some other metal that burns regardless of the environment. The entire 'summoning circle' is fit inside a cannister that loads into a cannon.

When the 'summoning circle' is fired, the chains spread out to form the hexagon, with the phosphorous candles are lit upon firing.

when the anchors hit whatever surface they've been fired at, they clamp down and the ritual is completed when the magical ingredients land in the center a fraction of a second behind them. And whatever eldritch being has been summoned begins to climb through.Boom, instant summoning spell using what is normally a bulky, slow, immobile ritual.

I hope that gave you guys some ideas. I'm keeping a few other ideas under my hat. can't spill all the good stuff right away.Gods do exist, and there are things they like/dislike, but I'm not sure yet if they're discrete entities, or just thought-forms.Anyway I want MOAR ways to streamline a magic system by mechanizing it. Just two or three isn't gonna cut it!

How about a ritual that combines an energizer with a physical item (1 time use) to make an energy version of said item controllable by your mind .. an example is like DnD mage shield using "lets say a fire plant/ore/ect" plus a charm sized (less then 1 inch sized) creates a fire non physical shield

Macronomicon

like mordenkainen's sword? That's not bad. i can see how that would work.

Darune Albane

Ya .. i have been modding DnD (3.5 .. anything later nope) to fix the insane power creep in the game and to MASSIVELY slow leveling while making chares customizable (no more war/wiz/ect) .. the casters hade ALL magic split into 7 earth/air/fire/water/positive/negative and the base arcane .. ALL spells are arcane but you can "flavor" with the other types .. each char starts with 7 feats base magic cost 2 each flavor cost 1

I'm thinking a variety of stick on tattoos that can be printed and stuck to people. Or even stickers, to do quick simple ritual magic on objects.

Macronomicon

so like a protective charm written in a specific kind of pre-prepared ink that you can slap on people's foreheads as necessary?

Sanairb

Are spells always temporary? Can he use magical animal parts to enchant his mecha armor? For example magic chicken feathers to give him short term flight?

Macronomicon

I'm going to be careful with permanent spells. they have a tendancy to snowball. But, the spells he does use will be very inexpensive due to his class, so he can use them to fly as many times as he wants, basically.

Darune Albane

Tattoos .. can you see a "hero" slapping stickers on someone or an ink stamper good idea with some comedy

Darune Albane

Can hs jar brain burn out? .. self aware in a distributed network way? . Link up to his own brain?

Matthew Davis

Illusion spell that works fine if cast properly, but if unbalanced is extremely endothermic. So original intent was for an illusion that convinces you you're on fire, but have it freeze you instead uses frost giant toenail clippings and thermite? In a shotgun shell?

Thomas

A ritualized summon servant to build other rituals to mass enchant weapons/goods with his embedded magic casting technology that he can use and update. Get Perry to a junkyard/dump and he can create a factory that provides him with whatever he needs/wants. Then have that factory connected to him with teleportation and telepathy and he can create what he needs each fight then and there. Perry's skillset and class with the technological magic means with prep time he's probably close to as strong as his parents are now. He also has the capability of enchanting everyone into a super if he wanted to. The power creep is here, with a little time and moderate resources Perry can get whatever he wants done, done. Especially if he "borrows" the resources from his father and his mother's spellbook.

By aplying a small amount of slime to someone, he can make this person trip over and sticky. The snail slime needs to be taken from the knot of two different shoelaces. Dust explosions could be made for cheap. And this fact : The average banana produces a particle of antimatter roughly once every 75 minutes. It is a positron from decaing potassium in the banana. Is something I want you to know and run with it 🤩🍌

Macronomicon

we definitely have to address power creep at some point. Hopefully I didn't shoot myself in the foot right off the bat.

Couple ideas, you could mod the sleep darts with some slow fall or weight reduction effect as they are fired if it exists so when the person that has been darted falls they don't break their neck, can't be having lethal non lethal. Could also make self consecrating weapons by having his individual brain cpu chips do the chants and such with nozzles to spray required ingredients on. Would be a good last minute change to lull unsuspecting enemies into letting you hit them as they think the weapons won't damage them. Could even make bullets that get blessed as they leave the gun since you don't want permanent enchants. Would depend on how much paranormal stuff is involved. Strapping the brain chips to some gloves and have them follow your finger movements so they are technically doing the same ones to allow any finger movements required for any magic rituals since he isn't magical enough to do it himself. Making an on demand fairy gate with the growth dust and then the reagents required for opening a fairy gate (mushroom circle) then throwing a stink bomb or some other annoying non lethal to draw them out. Presto, you get an on demand fairy swarm. Would be limited use though as eventually even the fairies would put 2 and 2 together. Some kind of pellet launching system that auto mixes and activates magical reagents before firing them to generally alter the material properties of things they hit, making them soften/harden as needed for example. Loads of other things could also be added as options as he will need a pretty wide kit to counter other supers if he goes against them. Building on this idea a mini reagent factory full of raw components and automated processes on demand to apply as required would be cool, almost an any situation bat utility belt with magic. Binding mirrors together for seeing through each other temporarily. They transmit light right? What would happen if a super had laser vision and hit one of these? I figure it will come out with no losses through the other mirror. Would definitely be a creative use of a classic magic. Two essence reactions done consecutively, one for chilling and one for heating done over and over automatically to get through super enhanced material. Possibly some magic weakening/suppressing mix would probably be a good idea as well to stop out of control experiments when he is testing things. Basically a magic fire extinguisher. Would also come in handy agianst other magical supers. Some big Frisbee reaction plates that have sensors in them that monitor pressure as material is created on both sides until the sensors detect a certain load so that they can prop up structures, basically a magical jack. It would be very useful during a super fights to protect civilians. An automated wide area cooling and heating to protect the surroundings against cold and hot based supers and in a location would also be useful as well as water generation or oxygen removal for fires all for collateral damage, not defending him. A rapid decay ritual for use agianst druid style supers would be a decent addition. That is all I can think of at the moment, might come up with more later after we see some more examples of how his magic system works and how it can be integrated with the tech twitch.

holy cow, that was a hell of a response. I might take a few days to digest this. the thin mountain air has got me feeling dumb these last few days.

Re: gods—ever read The Spellmonger series by Terry Mancour? I love his take on gods: they’re thoughtforms that leave an impression on ambient mana. The more widespread, consistent, and intense the believes/impressions, the more likely they are to manifest. Gods in Terry’s universe don’t have continuity in that they disappear and reappear without much in the way of control over the process, but they understand this and are often motivated to move forward their own interests while they’re around—interests being loosely defined as whatever drives their existence/concepts. Gathering followers makes them more likely to appear in the future. Removing another god’s follower’s can “kill” a god by removing sources of impact on the ambient environment. Terry cooks up all kinds of interesting interactions based on the above and it makes for some pretty whacky and scary gods.

If he’s going to have a mech suit then he should have some kind of spell powered by his own piss. I’m thinking some kind of intravenous setup so he can take a leak and it … I dunno refuels his power pack or restocks his water bottle.

SunderGoldmane

That on demand fairy swarm makes me think of Batman using bat swarms as a cover to move around and leave hostile situations where he’s cornered.

This string of comments has me thinking of what his debut would be. This guy could be a civilian evacuating specialist very easy. Not quite having the need to fight any specific villain but always having a matching tool to shield civilians from all kinds of collateral damage.

Macro, you've done that Piss-conomics chapter before, And the concept was touched on in the desert arc of soulmonger

Did it just add and remove one of my comments?! Will this ever be seen before it is erased by the no save of Patreon?! Who knows, you decide

Spell that let's us get back to Jebs story.... ...

Joe ?

Consecrated altar land mines. Little altars that have had holy rituals cast on them that dedicate them to some deity or another. Combine with a pressure plate that desecrates the altar when activated, drawing divine attention. Instant smiting with little personal energy use. A future plot hook could involve that coming back to bite him.

I wonder what sort of blowback he'd get from being too good at shielding and evacuating civilians from super fights. I imagine he'd produce a kit that has the versatility to counter most superpowers, and he can hide it on various objects across a street, and with enough mass production he could fill the entire city with them. Any super fights they detect, all the civilians will automatically be whisked away. Might alter the perception of super fights if, due to the lack of potential civilians to save, the pretense is removed and it becomes abundantly clear that capes and cowls only really do their schtick because they like street brawling.

you actually stumbled across one of my spells i was keepign under my hat. Congratulation.

Cheap roach motel that imposes a sympathetic bond on roaches within with all roaches without that have a significant degree of consanguinity. Roach motel then slays roaches within, causing a cascading curse effect that slays roaches without. The sacrifices can then be used to deposit lifeforce with lifeforce banks that Perry can call upon for healing, and/or summon demons. Lifeforce banks can be created from cheap plastic piggy banks. Perry invests a single drop of blood into them, and then creates a lifeforce bank account in his name that anyone with the correct documentation can deposit into, including roach motels.

Shell corporations can be created from seashells. Layers upon layers of shell corporations can be used to disguise or conceal Perry's identity from investigators. Actually there can be a lot of cheap garage tinker documentation magic that can be done with simple paper and ink and maybe signatures in blood. Apply the concepts of bank accounts, shell corporations, living wills, cease and desist orders, spam mail made from luncheon meat, etc. to magical ends. Documentation magic can be powerful, but I dunno if you want to go down this route. It's kinda dry.
