Superhero stories are basically one fight after another with little rhyme or reason, so I didn't go into this thinking I would need much more than solid worldbuilding. That means I don't have a big plot goal other than letting the characters explore the world.

What storyline do you think we should pursue next? Why is Brendon worth money?

Working more with Titan's crew?New Villain?Something illegal to balance Paradox's scorecard?

High Tide? (kind of an overarching thing) I'm not sure when to introduce it kicking in, but I wanna do it soon. That's when things get truly weird. My brain's turning to mush from writing a chapter every single day, so if you guys could hold my hand and tell me what to do next, I'll pursue anything that sounds like something I'd have come up with.

MC needs an ultimate goal aside from wanting to learn magic .. a path to dedicate his life working towards

Darune Albane

Once you have a goal you have a story frame

vetro 26

Maybe have high tide be the ultimate goal, while having a smaller dedicated goal like reaching a certain level or hero level

Would be really I interesting to have a sort of mini chapter from dad's perspective as he using his super powers to spy on his son. Checking out how things are going with the girl and how his powers are developing covertly. Trying to influence his son but very subtle about it because you know he's a super villain but wants to be good dad. Would be amusing plus he been a successful tinker for a long time probably has good feedback.

You know the prawn things? Can that be some old super that triggered and started being evil aquaman for legit 0 reason other than them being totally bat shit crazy?

FreakShow

Why Brendon worth money doh??

Sanairb

He needs a rival. Someone he can be jealous of and want to beat. Personally, I think it would be interesting if they kept trying to kill each other, yet kept failing.

Jacob

Maybe a up and coming recurring enemy to work as a scale someone that he could go back and forth with beating/getting his ass kicked

MurkyTruths

I see the story becoming more established with the motivations and machinations of some of the smaller scale characters before a high tide would come into play

MurkyTruths

I see a lot of Super Hero Stories as caricatures of motivation. And what I mean by that is most superheroes and villains represent an ideal that is to be followed to its extreme, and a good hero / villain would bring that drive out in a way that is Compelling to the reader

MurkyTruths

If Brendon doesn't become the most threatening villan by the end of this with the power of normalcy and willful ignorance I will be a sad boi

So I think the initial over arching goal that the main character is unaware of as of yet, is that some person or group has a grand scheme to harness the high tide and the prawns to install themselves as Supreme ruler of earth, and that solar guy is working with them to do so. But they're not doing it for selfish reasons. They're doing it because the high tide that killed a billion humans is actually caused by something much much larger in scope, a seemingly impossible to avoid cataclysmic event, and they’re doing their best to save as many people as possible. Heather's dad is a pawn that was moving a piece for them. Then you can make Perry the linchpin to saving everyone because of some esoteric interaction between magic and tech amplified way beyond the scope of what should normally be possible. Probably some innocuous thing you only sort of being up at once point, and then at the end the dominoes can fall in just the right way. And then his mom can say that she always knew he had a grand destiny

Macronomicon

Interesting! that's a pretty good observation!

ADONUS GREEN

Story has a super minion feel to it.

Macronomicon

It's supposed to. Super minion was absolutely amazing, and I'm trying to assimilate the parts of the worldbuilding that I liked.

His dad is a tinker and a villain so it's not like he's going to judge him for attempting to rob someone, I see him going to his dad for help as an interesting next step

Alex Lindsay

I would like to understand how it is that his dad and mom can be enemies in public and still make it work.

Ellija

One thing id like to see him test is how many layers deep his stats effect. If he makes something to make something does it benefit? If so he should be ramping up and focusing on interactions to make production capacity. Exploiting the softening spell to make a 3d printer than can room temp print solid materials. Using the phantasmal constructs to create large quick fortifications molds to fill with liquified matter.

Pastor Joubert

I think the MC basically inventing magitek is going to be a huge conflict point. Deploying spells in his suits at level 2 is basically asking to be figured out. Hopefully the first person to recognize is a talent scout.

Perry could serve as a kind of tech supplier consultant/specialist to other hero’s and we could gain random exposure to the world by proxy. These people who consult him don’t necessarily have to have their adventure written out but it’s one way to show that their are other supers and they are doing stuff in the background of the world. Maybe this could functions an upgraded form of the “do your homework” quest.

SunderGoldmane

So, in this universe, can tinker tech be used by people other than the tinkerer? My memory of the chapter that described the various tinker classes and had a lot of copy pasta seems to be fuzzy on this point but wasn’t there something about tinker tech being harder to use or less efficient or something similar when used by people other than the tinkerer? How does this fit into the potential problem of introducing magi tech to the world? Does it make it not a problem at all because the spell frames could only be used by Perry? Does it make it not a normal people problem because it can only be used by other tinkerers but it’s less efficient? Bottom line is this, is there some kind of class lock baked into your system on magitech?

SunderGoldmane

Also if the central core of your story is world building then the question that should be asked and answered is what does your world need. Supporting questions can be asked from there such as “who delivers it”, “why is this person or event delivering it”, and “how is the delivery made”. A follow up question for characters or events that more interesting than others and deserve more screen time is “what did it cost them”. Following these questions can jump start the framework of characters and keep how they relate to the central core of your story as their basis for coming into existence.

Macronomicon

No, it was made by Perry before he even had a class, so it could be used by anyone. BUT his is always going to be ridiculously stronger than someone else's, even other tinkers.

Who's to say he isn't already? If his superpower was self-hypnosis and a normalcy field, would he even know he had it?

0xFFF1

They're committing cape fraud. Perry's Mom established her Nemesis to be his dad, so they send her after him all the time. They cooperate to pull off believable fights without actually putting each other in danger, then Mom gets a paycheck from Nexus.
