Sometimes as an author, you write a cliff without knowing what it is, or why, it just fits nicely.I'm attempting to crib largely off of Superminion. This particular mini-arc in his story was based around an infestation of mutated mosquitos (vampires)What kind of bug or nasty force can we have that would help worldbuilding, while also putting a section of the city into lockdown?Tiny replicators tunnelled in?Mosquitos, directly lifted from Gogglesbear? Some other insect?I just don't know the specifics. Suggestions welcome. I've got about 20 hours to think on it before I gotta start on it tomorrow.

Bats that give people an itch to travel and visit others. The itch is contagious through close proximity. The itch grows and grows until the person can't stop and eventually their heart gives out

Mutant lamprey/crab hybrids. Think the facehuggers from Alien, but with a mouth and sharp teeth and the widest part about the size of a hand and a tail a couple feet long for adults. Maybe they mutated to prey/parasitize from prawns so can also cut through/burrow into tinker armor? High tide could be their spawning/hatching time, due to all the dead prawns, and their babies could basically be a swarm of inch-long crab-fish-leeches that will burrow into people and eat them from the inside out. So could be a "Swarm Siren" or something.

Personally I go with something that is displaced because of high tide. So you have something that would normally not be a problem in the city. However because of the rising water they come out. So make that section of the city like the water filtration plant or something.

Driftward

Hybrid minaturized replicator/prawns that die when their batteries run out, and perhaps have an odd penchant for disco?

Sanairb

Mating pheromones from the prawns are drifting in on the mist from the tide and causes females to become extremely territorial over claiming mates. Spreads by contact.

SunderGoldmane

Saint natia’s blessed mutated cockroaches that got side blasted during Perry’s arm fiasco.

Enaz the great

Highly evolved hive mind Alligators, with one thing on their collective mind... vengeance!

Darune Albane

Maybe ants that are the size of a small mouse with a queen the size of a NY rat with a semi hive mind

Throngler In Chief

I definitely think there needs to be a civilization of uplifted cybernetic rats that started off as a tinker's experiment. Maybe have the partial hive mind be because they're using they hijacked the original tinker's reality-warping ability. Maybe have them be provide black-market lair-maintence service in exchange for fresh surface garbage and cast-off or broken tinker-tech parts.

Mobious

Leeches. An unholy amount of leeches. They're attempting to devour everything to reproduce similar to a grey goo.

Tyler

Giant house centipedes. Terrifying but benevolent they attack everything that looks bug-like, including cars and power armor

Like the Skritt from Guild Wars 2. They're idiots in small numbers, but become individually intelligent when together in larger numbers. Prodigy-tier cyber-hivemind rats with a much higher than average rate of Triggering into a Tinker. However such entities would probably find more value in cooperating with humans, so it doesn't really fit with Macro's prompt for a secondary threat that surfaces when everyone is already dealing with Prawn

How about you steal the idea of the memory parasites from Rick and Morty. They change your memories, and inject themselves as close friends/family members. Check out thr episode for details I thought they were very cool.

A disgruntled nondescript squirrel

they are like cicadas and hatch fron their pods old when the Tide begins and die after laying their clown eggs at the end of the Tide

Perhaps a new portal opened to one of the worlds like funky town. out of it comes a swarm of mimics that are trying to escape the mega mimic eating everything. perhaps the mimics meet perry and full stop and run back into the portal or swear allegence.

Joe ?

A mimic like the one inside Perry but not as established or developed. Maybe it's replaced one of the tenement buildings in Funkytown and hasn't quite nailed down the whole acting like a bunch of people thing so sobering noticed a building where everyone acts exactly the same

Gaunt

Mason bee's, a queen has triggered and once again is trying to become empress with the Wall as their fortress, boring into the tinker concrete and building up a massive force. Give em some weak form of tactile telekinesis/pyrogenisis so they swarm a cape and flash cook em.

Deinos

Ah lol I first thought that those were police sirens. Hah so you Did read superminion! I thought my suggestion on his first outing fell on deaf ears. So yeah how about a T-2000/grey-goo scenario in the form of Butterflies?

Macronomicon

dude I read Superminion like three times before i ever started writing this thing. Its awesome!

Deinos

Too bad the author went awol. Hopefully he's fine

Macronomicon

i got his blessing to copy him, so he's alive, at least

Jeff Wells

Tell him to come baaaaaack!! I loved SuperMinion. ISM is doing a nice job scratching the Superhero itch, but there's room for both I promise!

Macronomicon

I, as an author, cannot in good conscience, pester another author to start writing again. I know that guy's gotten it from every angle already, and I'll only stress him out more should i do that.

Gaunt

I agree with your choice. Tell them that they've got people willing to throw money at em, still. His patreon is full of folks looking to put food on the table for a story that may never be finished because we appreciate the craft. I know im imposing but i feel it means more, author to author, than from a fan.

Widespread trigger event. Jason was the first of an unusually high number of simultaneous triggers in a poorer part of town. Statistically, many of them are desperate, suffering from physical or mental medical conditions, or are generally not coping well with a lot of new/strange/scary power.

Throngler In Chief

This actually fits in well with the "High Tide" effects already mentioned in the story. Hell, could integrate that idea with mine about the Prawn-mite/crab/lamprey/leech swarms by making them attracted to the energy that gives capes and cowls their powers. So a widespread trigger event would be like a dinner bell to the swarm of newborn parasitic fish-monster-abominations.

Deinos

I agree, clearly telling or asking him in any manner will not work and just stress him. So you should invite his parents on a vacation then tell him you kidnapped them. Send him a few photoshopped pictures every few days. I'm certain this might work! Hm where did I get this idea from.

Andrew

When any bugs from earth Would be a invasive species. And probably get jacked up by some magic. And you want believe the amount of species that we have of bug. Hell it's Own scientific field. Personally I love bees and the idea of a honey spirit or something. Hey spirit that binds itself to beehives and does crazy stuff with them with magic Those bees are magical.
