I wanted to peel back a little bit of the way the world actually works in Magneton's lair.Maybe imply he got got by Solaris after kidnapping and experimenting on supers: IE. dead supers in tubes and a smudge on the floor.Or...something. I don't have it 100% locked in yet. What would be a cool reveal/hint/worldbuilding inside the dead Tinker's lair?Info about Professor Replica?A deal with the replicators?baby factory?

a backdoor into Nexus?Doubts about Perry's real father?A blackmail repository (given the high levels of security)(shrug)Suggestions more than welcome!

An inkling of smart prawns infiltrating nexus a la body snatchers

Deinos

Duh we all know his real father is Darth Vader, though I wouldn't mind a nooOooOoo scene!

World details are key. Personal details about this cowl are big. Yet I don’t think this should reveal much quickly. Data security is paramount and everything should be completely obscure beyond raw material objects with clear purpose - example: Tanks of experiments but the data is completely unrecoverable. Unless Perry uses time magic to diddle the CPU back to a time it was in use and scraped the raw bits off the stack at run time when their unencrypted, because a modern secure OS encrypts at storage, ram, and in transit across the bus, yet has to decrypt on the SOC/CPU to do its work before encrypting again to move the data to where it needs to be. A shortcut would be reversing time on only the monitor to record the screen.

How about showing the end state of a tinker that peers too long into the abyss. Seems appropriate for what the past chapters have already been.

I always wondered basic logistics questions regarding a secret base full of deathtraps: (1) how does the base owner avoid getting killed by their own traps (2) how do they get any work done with all these trapped corridors and other wastes of space making everything slower (3) surely everyone trying to invade a hostile base is going to tunnel past the traps. How they defend against that. IRL the way they resolve this is there is an 'inner sanctum' area with less security gates and time wasting obstacles, and mobile security forces that patrol these. Tunneling is always a problem.

Gavriel

First of all we know that Perry's father is legit, the circumstances where that would happen without Mechnaut knowing are absurd You can have magneto plausibly die from old age, and a backdoor into Nexus isn't that difficult if you actually were involved in it's creation; now it would be reasonable cool if it's an actual physical tunnel into the Nexus labs, with a data siphon on innovation Actually I think a hidden, undetectable, data access hookup to the Nexus internal system with top level access would be awesome for Perry (some of that tech might actually require things that are only cheap due to those uses being unknown, allowing truly top level hardware that is maximally enhanced for Perry)

Throngler In Chief

How about an existential threat to conciousness? He built a magnetic telescope, and it's still running and recording. Could be that Perry's construction triggered the kill-bots by disrupting it, now Perry's and co's got a conundrum because they now have YEARS worth of detailed data recordings from the telescope they cant analyze without sudden onsent cranial expulsion complicated by involuntary ocular mastication (Head explodes and they eat their own eyes, and hopefully die afterwards). Wait. Can Perry's HP protect him from telescope induced brain explosions?

Sanairb

Perry's father was also shown employing advanced look alikes. Any question to paternity could be hand waved away.

Gaunt

Either moon madness or Solaris smiting. Physical evidence only because of the nature of EMP scrambling all the data. Maybe you need a specific medium for the moon recording, such as a 1's and 0's coded phonograph

I want to know more about Nexus became and has stayed the dominant superpower org. There have to have been other competitors and upstarts that have been slapped down, and that isn’t done only by Solaris, right?

SunderGoldmane

Maybe he was trying to use his magnetic powers to somehow feel out space like an astronomer. Instead of looking out there at whatever eldritch or cosmic glitch exists with a telescope he was instead trying a more round about approach. He put together enough to understand that he couldn’t keep studying it and ceased documentation at some point, but that just put him in a catatonic state and he just starved himself to death at his console. Maybe he died in a kind of revelatory ecstasy.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/stronger-than-steel-able-to-stop-a-speeding-bullet-mdash-it-rsquo-s-super-wood/ He's gotta use this imo, just like I suggested obsidian blades, now I am suggesting wood, this is a snippet of wood compressed this way from the article " its resistance to being ripped apart is increased more than 10-fold. It also can become about 50 times more resistant to compression and almost 20 times as stiff. The densified wood is also substantially harder, more scratch-resistant and more impact-resistant. It can be molded into almost any shape. Perhaps most importantly, the densified wood is also moisture-resistant: In lab tests, compressed samples exposed to extreme humidity for more than five days swelled less than 10 percent—and in subsequent tests, Hu says, a simple coat of paint eliminated that swelling entirely. A five-layer, plywoodlike sandwich of densified wood stopped simulated bullets fired into the material—a result Hu and his colleagues suggest could lead to low-cost armor. The material does not protect quite as well as a Kevlar sheet of the same thickness—but it only costs about 5 percent as much, he notes. " This is absolutely perfect for Perry considering the cost of the material vs it's actual abilities (can just buy, or grow wood, we literally use that stuff for cheap paper, although finished boards can be marked up substantially), it's alot cheaper than aluminum, but significantly stronger than steel, I also doubt it weighs much, and is probably a natural insulator; imagine a 30+X on something already more than 10X the original strength for one of the lower increases? It's literally nearly as good as blocking bullets as kevlar for 1/20 the cost, meaning that theoretically Perry could enhance it 20X more than kevlar: I could easily imagine Perry strolling through OP traps with a suit using this for all inert material (at some point it has to functionally shatter everything that hits it by rebounding force nearly absolutely) Can Perry enhance the resistance to being moved by outside forces while minimizing the resistance internally? So as to make something have vector variable inertia? Why hasn't Perry made floating armaments that simultaneously have armor piercing real materials connected (perhaps also antimagic? Maybe some of his blood?) Shouldn't Perry have some passive protection in place that causes him no issues? Theoretically can't he enhance his own skin through a tattoo? Is there anything stopping him from using his perk on his own body? By working out alone he should be able to enhance the properties of his musculature by 30X minimum

Maybe not related, but has Perry considered making kids toys? His powers would be awesome on the cheap materials. Wondering if he could make something like the Tinker Crate, teaching kids stem, except his actually waken latent Tinker powers or something. Paradox Crates :-)

KB

Also, Perry could do awesome and hilarious things with water pistols

Gavriel

I found a great exploit; Have Perry use his perk on his body by working out (aka altering his body), making him instantly manifold human normal with his multipliers

Alex k

Possibly a joke base sorta just a big troll base thats a decoy it has tech but it's something at the edge of his specialty of magnetism sorta like a ha ha I have 8 other proxy lairs type thing

Thomas

Magneton discovered that super powers come from splicing of interdimensional prawn dna into humanity. This was done solely for the purpose of harvesting humans with powers to further the expansionist interdimensional empire that created the prawns. Just throwing the idea out there, pretty sure that isn't where this story is going.

Joe ?

I like the idea of a magnetic telescope that's been recording for years, and just storing and processing the data has caused some really weird shit to go down in the depths of this lab. Maybe a low power ai that has still managed to trigger. Maybe magnet guy was trying to figure out a way to become as powerful as professor replicator without becoming as crazy. Solaris killed him because that's not possible. Once you're opened fully to the truth you realize that the only logical decision is to exterminate most of humanity because sapient life is what causes high tide (or something like that)

Crownfall

I think hardcase or wraith realizing a major secret of the world and not sharing it out of fear could be a good plot point. Hardcase in tinker fugue slinks into another room to look at tech and realizes Solaris popped this guy for experimenting or wraith slides through an air tube to find the experimentation room and destroys it

Crownfall

One of his parents or Solaris giving him a birds and the bees talk about what happens when cowls going to far. Or wraith realizing Solaris killed her fkn dad

Macronomicon

I'm gonna have to slap that one down. it would be WAY too OP if he could suddenly be 40X stronger. also kind of makes the Body stat redundant.

Gavriel

I mean.... You can just make him twice or thrice as strong due to the extremely valuable nanobots and legendary spirit symbiote content; it scales by the value of the things involved, and technically Perry's body is both uniquely high attunement, and suffused with reasonable quantities of legendary materials; but at least give him a certain amount of additional strength 😉; I really don't get why he hasn't thought of replacing the outer layer of his skin with an enhanced version though, he can also enhance nutrients like calcium to massively reinforce his bone structure, and protein for muscle, etc; it would take 7 years to complete that way You can even do both, double/triple now, eventually 30-40 in 7 years; it shouldn't actually make him THAT strong currently (by comparison to a strength focused power)

alex godbeer

Image some failed projects like a giant magnet covered in chickens for the joke Chick magnet

Alex Lindsay

Magnetometer ended up with a virtual intelligence stolen from a another tinker that destroyed him in self defense and is lonely scared and a bit weird as it was just a new VI a the time. Perry befriends or improves it with his power. Lots of ways for this to add to the future story lines!

Blues

This may be too much but how about a magnet based power generator that gives over 100% power during high tide. Mabey he made his base run fortification programs, like more traps, during high tide.

SunderGoldmane

We’ve been down the transhumanism mage road before. He’s already growing his own skin as a control board for magitech, I’d say that’s a happy compromise for now. Maybe have his mom catch wind about the idea of replacing his own skin and she lays down the law on him, then he has to also not talk about the fact that he already is growing skin in his lab or something. The min max reasons for replacing his organs and such are there but cmon, let’s see how far this can go before he goes super human in one chapter.

SunderGoldmane

I don’t think anything has hinted at prawn being non dimensionally native. If anything it seems like prawn just triggered and don’t have a lot of competition in there home waters.

SunderGoldmane

There’s a couple people that have put an idea forward of somehow relating this to prof replicator. I think it would be pretty cool if he was like his brother or uncle or something. Maybe if magnet was replicators brother he might have been working on some kind of anti replicator robots.

SunderGoldmane

This should definitely make it into a side room. Or like a project files list on a computer.

SunderGoldmane

We have a summoned companion and Brandon around the base already and they don’t even always have screen time. Ai feels like it’s prepping to jump the shark. How about a kind of sleeper ai, like they find it, bring it back, but it doesn’t do anything until perry and crew return from the potential train Arc. It figures out how to interact with the lcc and is cleaning up the lab behind Perry all the time. Or like handing him screwdrivers and stuff. But he’s so whacked on attunement he doesn’t even notice when it began.
