I have a vague impression of a bot or mech that is so seamless as to appear organic, which can kick more ass than Perry could hope to ATM, as well as control other's attention to make itself extremely difficult to fight.the reason I want it to be this badass is that it reinforces the concept that Perry isn't the most powerful yet, and that without this thing they would never make it out alive, because the replicators are too good at what they do.It places Perry in the heirarchy of power and keeps the Replicators as a credible threat that Perry can't beat...yet.In short, I don't want Perry saving the day directly by being more OP than everyone else. Bit too soon for that.BUT! does anyone have any better ideas? I'm perfectly willing to adopt some fun ideas for this.

It's a red button that says "do not press except in case of emergency." It changes the entire train trip so that the best possible outcome happened. Everyone has the memories of the shitty timeline, but it never happened.

Reyhulko

Why not going for an Ultron like thing? (The one on the movies) Or are you going for a syntetic being like the ones in the 1st season of Picard?

Nasa Wofford

A clockwork Small God who protects trains with clones of its creator, power armor and all.

mhaj58

Hacking the spirit system to unlock his full potential for 1 to 3 minutes of time. For a short while he can match his parents in power and when it wears off he mentally regressed into an 8 year old for a day or suffers from 8th grade syndrome. He could create new ideas for magitech by advancing possibilities in his super mode.

Mehdude

So what if bot triggered Pinocio protocols, it became a real boy.

austin kutz

Whatever it is, there needs to be a massive confirmation process (retina scan, fingerprint scan, rectal probe, etc) then a big red button

Robert Amundson

More replicators? Grey goo that eats replicator metal. Something that hacks the friend or foe designators in an area. Literally the stay puff marshmallow man (Ghostbusters). Those are a couple off the top of my head.

Nechochwen

Chuni Perry would be funny. But I don't think that it woyld fit with what he is going for.

Enaz the great

Metal symbote that once worn slowly kills the wearer over the course of a day but also temporarily triggers the host giving a vastly amplified version of powers they could of had. The catch only works on normal people tho

Eclaire_de_Luune

My brain said Samus aran when I read this blurb, so that suit perhaps a source of inspiration there? Or rather the SA-X, if you've ever played fusion - the uncanny valley on its face was a nightmare source when I was a kid lol.

rwn

A crate full of nanomachines that assume the form of a kraken

Jeff Casey

I’m kinda partial to like a spatial dominance autonomous drone or something, powers like short range teleportation, telekinesis, and gravity manipulation. Imagine like a dreadnought getting within 30 meters and getting its innards instantly crushed by a gravity lance, repeated ad nauseam until every replicator is dead

H.D.

So how about a sentient robot or artificial being with a chaos field. Time and space, causality and reality bends around it, it behaves erratically and hunts replicators. They cant hurt it, just looking at it makes them malfunction. Something on that scale. And high tide makes it wonky and so actually be normalish when out of combat. The benefit would be a comic relief, easy situational humour scenes, and an other look at almost magical tech that could rival Perry.

Nechochwen

What about a sentient/sapient spatial anomaly that was a gift meant to protect the train?

Novel_Rabbit

Sweeper level and crisis-unfucking strength. Space time bot with duplicative self time travel so that there’s a sudden army for like 5 minutes before it rusts itself by spending all its time in parallel instead of in sequence like Normal? Or a suit that converts damage into energy, energy into material, and material into healing/efficiency. Basically healing/shooting/moving faster the more things try to attack it. But it’s basically a big wind up toy that stops if something doesn’t provide it energy. So the activation is a cannon shooting a Mac round into its chassis and just letting it rip. Bot made of folded space time so it’s basically inviolable except by gravity attacks. Selective time line duplication to, for a small amount of time, double/triple/whatever the number of hero’s on the train by bringing in other versions of them

Michael Presley

How about a literal magnum opus, it’s a machine that combines sound with the emotional weight of the song to alter reality. So flight of the valkyries summons actual valkyries or something similar. You could have it have a sympathetic effect with the tattoos as well that spins out of control in interesting ways

Exolious

A set of androids in the style of a generic fantasy hero and groupies, Or a sword that gives someone the powers of a fantasy hero for a time.

Tovath

Since you mentioned it possibly getting a quirk via high tide, I think something bio-mechanic able to integrate other things into itself, including machine or organic components of deceased combatants. Perhaps the real reason it's in the armory is because that entire section of the train will basically transform into the new sleek bio-mech. Imagine if you will the following. As Jerry triggered the Magnum Opus of the Armory car, the walls and most of the surrounding metal of the train car quickly flowed into newly forming metallic bones and synthetic musculature. Perry looked on slacked jawed as a multistoried titan that was a vision of a tinkers wet dream rose above him. Numerous items that had been stored within the armory had also seamlessly been integrated for use by the towering colossus of tinker-tech.

Zaeron

I can see this one being fun but divisive - it has shades of "it was all just a dream!"

0xFFF1

c'mon cmon cmoncmoncmon HURRY UP WE'RE ABOUT TO DIE PLEASE

Myx

A human shaped robot capable of moving at speeds beyond even high level speedsters, with an energy blade that cuts through practically anything. It has a maximum operating time of 5 minutes and takes months to recharge itself through some unknown method.

Michael S.

Nah, just have Paradox freak the fuck out because it's the exact same technology his Dad used to make him. The whole pruning timelines thing.

Mengha

Honestly? I’m thinking a turret that shoots smart missiles. Very very smart missiles. Full on talking pseudo sapient missiles. With all kinds of “Fun” warheads. Shoot out a few dozen of those a second. Have em be all super excited about being missiles and doing missile things. Maybe a warhead that turns things it hits into plushie versions of themselves. And another one that’s a supersonic mono molecular kintetic kill vehicle. A full range from “this missile just kills things” to “this missile is great for parties”

Ikawaii

mechanical T-Rex(the humblest of god's creatures) that shoots lasers.

AI Doomer Pop (e/ak)

Sink it into the Conductor and he can roid out with both Bargand's Favor and the symbiote and clear the train heroically, leaning into the sacrifice for humanity angle.

Daedalus

A big red button that temporarily creates an exact clone of everything in a large area, but stronger, faster, and loyal to the presser of the button? Might be fun to see replicator v replicator as they both exponentially try to out-adapt the other, indirectly giving watching Tinkers inspirations as they go full post-singularity, and give an idea as to just how strong replicators can get.

SunderGoldmane

Whatever it is, it should definitely develop a quirk and that quirk should be romantic fascination with the city train. Never leaves it’s side.

LucasTheLost

The aforementioned Dreadnought determines that Perry's Death Ray uses photons, and suddenly all the Replicator switch to a mirror finish (or their invisible shields turn into mirror spheres) . He could still hit the ground next to their feet to hack off their foot/shin, but it's no longer an "I Win" button. And then some hero yells "their shields are visible" and goes ham with his power that only works on what he can see and is (usually) blocked by shields. TK? MakeItDisappear? Ooh! That sparkles guy! And then he has N Replicator that he can make reappear in a controlled environment so tinkers (Perry!) can HARVEST them. Mwahahaaa! And it'd make for some great father/son bonding time to dissect thDreadnought together!

Thomas

I'm thinking an animal based borg transformer (like the 80's cartoon and not the Michael Bay movies) combination that absorbs replicators into its being until it reaches a certain size. Then it explodes reducing it back to its original size and repeats the process as long as there are replicators to assimilate. May malfunction and attempt to assimilate biological material as well, and has poor IFF capabilities when going boom, or at other times due to the tide.

LucasTheLost

Summons another corruption demon bound to defend the train, only its the same one from Perry's "insta-demon missle". Hilarious conversation ensues.

Leander

Go silver surfer, a metallic humanoid with absolute control over the metal it‘s made of.

Retroburn

How about the Magnum Opus being something of a tragic character? My idea is a fully sentient nanobot swarm taking the appearance of an older looking super. He could be a friendly guy looking to have some fun killing replicators to distract him from his condition. The condition in this case is him being unable to replicate more nanobots and therefore slowly dying, in addition to being constantly shut down because of fears based on his similarity to the Replicators. In terms of him showing Perry who's boss, he could style on the Replicators by mimicking dozens of superpowers with his infinetly adaptable body and infecting them with his swarm. Make 'em turn to goo, spontaneosly combust, shoot themselves. You could totally get goofy with it too, have him do a song and dance number with the replicators as his backup dancers. I would love to see that! Feel free to use my idea!

LucasTheLost

Oh shit! It releases the anti-replicator Replicators. Worked great in the Berserker books, by Keith Laummer? Nope. Fred Saberhagen, same guy who wrote the Bolo books IIRC. Are you goodlife?

LucasTheLost

So they adapt to Sparkles by only going mirror ball when Perry points his [left?] arm at them. Perry and sparkles adapt to THAT by having Perry wave his arm all over so Sparkles can hoover them up piecemeal.

Deinos

I know I know! It's a non-anthropomorphic kinetic elliptical devastationray! In short n.a.k.e.d.

Kote's chronicles

How about the teddy bear from "the perfect run". that thing was nightmare inducing. Or, off the top of my head, a zombie robot hybrid that likes to nibble on butts. Nothing sexual mind you. >.> the human half could be the tinker so that his Mangum opus LITTERLY took parts of him. Robot made of liquid metal like in terminator 2 that can take in other matter to repair itsself. After taking in so much matter it divides. A zoid? The animal mech things that where kinda alive. Watched that show as a kid. A sonic screw driver. Should be pretty good against machines like replicator.

Brell

A thimble sized plastic cartridge of lavender colored and scented goo that rapidly aerosolizes and converts any metal it comes into contact with into more of itself. The effect works until 50,000,000 kg of metal has been converted.

Luis fuentes

Make it a biological creature. Something bio tinker made. akin to a sea monkey, Add water and it becomes a living creature. Have it follow verbal commands at first but it imprints against it’s opponents and adapts to them as it evolves against threats. The reason it’s so risky is that it can become another replicator threat if it triggers, but in a short bust of use can save the day and dies in a few hours.

Carl Mason

The entire train car is "tinker-tillery" and made of a programmable nano-swarm. Allowing reconfiguration, organic appearance and operation, as well as limited self healing. Contained modules for configuration (weapon systems, ammo, etc) are stored within the swarm. Operated by an AI/digital soul capture/brain in a box of its maker. The reason this is a Magnum Opus is not only because the creator built this best and greatest of all his work, but in the build he was working on mind cloning to run it "himself" and instead killed his organic body and uploaded to the digital body. He can't be on all the time because the systems burned out the safety on his processor and it causes sanity problems when run too long, plus side: if it triggers it may become MORE same rather than less.

Frederic Vincent

A Homunculus would be good. Similar to the ones in "A Returner's Magic Should Be Special".

guipe

How about an item that influence causality? or an item that influence luck? Like they press a button and suddenly everyone start tripping over their own feet in a way that somehow kill replicators. It would have a lot of synergie with the berserking tag as they would somehow manage to kill replicator using only their normal fist. (this could also be used in the future in a villain base).

SHADOUX9

A tesla coil that when turned on reverts the surrounding 100km into pre tide reality, everything g goes back to normal so square cube law applies and tinker tech stops working

Joe ?

A really simple human sized robot that appears how you described. When activated it does a seemingly pointless series of arbitrary actions while speaking nonsense. Suddenly everything falls into place and all of the random actions combine with the thoughts provoked by the gibberish it was speaking to make it seem like the replicators were defeated by random chance.

Gaunt

Hell-bore, take a nuke, compress it, then shell something with the compressed energy projectile. 25 to 50 kilotons per shot with an appreciable cycle rate of 375 RPM, similar to the k-chunk of pipe guns like the sten and grease gun.

Gaunt

Or, a dismantle engine, giant tentacled monstrosity when activated that flenses things down to the molecule and recycles the material. Advised to be remote activated if possible, perry sac's a suit(s) to turn it on in a blitz, riding the beserker wave

M.J. Markgraf

Could give the robot a field around it that leaches all energy to power itself, including inertial, electrical, light, and biological. The more it absorbs the bigger the field grows until it hits critical mass and the robot converts itself into a miniature black hole that sucks anything unfortunate enough to be close to it inside before it vanishes. This field, of course, would render the humans temporarily comatose if they got caught within.

SunderGoldmane

This could double as exposure a peek into the nature of the tide. A machine that rides the razor edge of madness inducing awareness while orchestrating/conducting the defense of the train. When it’s all done walthers tells everyone to not think about it too much or you’ll break the normal thought process that uphold your interactions with reality. Aka you’ll kill yourself by thinking about it too much.

SunderGoldmane

Can this super special room be the rec room?

Rodney

An aim bot assisted ray gun that transforms the user's intended enemies into a giant crab of equivalent mass

SunderGoldmane

Fuck all the other suggestions, make it a sonic screwdriver.

Jon Davis

Robotic Maid Waifu, that *immediately* flips out and gains complete sentience instead of dumbass AI with a need to ‘clean up all the trash’.

Jordan

Could the Opus be a converted replicator that develops a french resistance fighter personality. His mission becomes to free his bretheren from their programming by any means necessary. Probably isn't just figured it would be funny.

Lentitudo

Another strain of grey goo, that has to combat the replicators, introduce another potential antagonising force that could become a threat later on, and is a direct consequence to the team/train's survival, a myopic move that will bite him in the ass later on, the same thing could be done with a autonomous mech or robot, with lower level AI, but fucked up directives, kinda like save all humans, even from themselves, it'll help save the humans during the tide, but what happens when there's no longer is a external threat to humans

Andrew

I want the Janitor to be the 1 that saves the day Either he's a minor god or he is the 1 who Sacrifice himself to make the device activate he should be the hero would be hilarious

Finalgear

How about a hard counter to replicators? How sentient are they? Would they also die if they learn what astronomers do that drives them to suicide? I liked how a Magnum opus was spoken of as something that a tinker could die creating so here's what I'm thinking. A tinkers family is killed by replicators and in his fugue state he creates a device that imparts knowledge the astronomers learn to replicators in an aoe through the 4th dimension so they can't avoid it(sort of like a call back to generic system) which causes the ones in range to robot suicide. It's op and a hard counter to one specific threat so it's less of a universal cop out or something too strong. And obviously the tinker that made it is dead since he gained the go crazy knowledge and died making this.

LordDark

Project Nemesis: a ray gun that scans the target and searches through all the realities that never were to find the opposite good/evil alignment of that person/machine and summons them pemanently. AKA GOOD REPLICATORS that unfortunately get kiled off quickly. Also an evil Train conductor cause woops.

Carl Mason

Probably not kill yourself, just fold yourself into an alternate dimension and out of our reality. You may or may not survive the trip. You will never return.

Pastor Joubert

Spider-mech robot waifu. Its top secret for a reason…

LucasTheLost

Ssomeone's been reading Saberhagen. Bolos for the win. Oh ooh! The magnum opus is a super ai that takes over all train functions and uses them extra double super good. Remarkably Bolo-like AI, which then hits some of the tinkers up for some turret mounted infinite repeaters and a hellbore cannon. Bolo armaments are generally rated in megatons/second. The larger models are classified as Continental Siege Units, in that they can lay seige to a continent BY THEMSELVES. Bolos are silly/awesome. For the honor of the Dinochrome Brigade!

a passing Fnord

Entropy/micro black hole gun on the mech. Never used before, cause if it gets fucked/functions it would make a city sized crater

Cyrus McEnnis

Code corruptor. Able to randomly over ride the Replicators instruction set. Of course, in High Tide it also is capable of randomly changing DNA code as well, and it has a tendency to default to crab-like behaviors & attributes. Suddenly the Replicators start building a shell around themselves, or a speedster can only scuttle sideways, that sort of thing. Bonus marks if it was built by the janitor and he finally gets it under control and is the Big Damn Hero of the day using skin mags.

LordDark

Really though, what is with everone and crabs here?

SquiddlyWinks

Rust monster like item kept in a stone box. Doesn’t effect perry because his armor is cardboard

Ed Je

What about a Magnum opus of a tinker whose power was to integrate different systems together, and his Opus was a device that could take any tinker device and integrate it into itself like a power ranger. His original tinker power was only able to integrate 2 or maybe 3 powers together seamlessly, but his opus can do as many as it wants, and is self governing. Maybe it is supposed to takes on all machines it can come in contact with, and eventually integrates everything into one homogeneous amalgam, maybe with the core opus of whatever they started with at the center. The quirk that may develop could be something like it takes on the ability to use magic, and summons demons, or maybe it goes rouge and leaves the train to rampage on replicators while growing.

H

An EMP like device that replaces all data in its radius with silk & spandex JPEGs thus bricking anything electronic

H

Made by jerry

Oth

Terminator 2 Melty terminator

Dee

A Prawn Suit which was created by a duo bio and AI tinker combo that graphted tinker-enhanced prawn parts onto a replicator chassis and core. It’s both a pun and a Subnautica reference!

Chunq

The most paradoxically advanced steam engine in their universe, whatever that looks like. Its name is Thomas.

Red Viking

Ten stuffed bears, all in different colours, that shoot friendship beams that cause the Replicators' to selfterminate rather than allow themselves to hop teams.

Soulfire

A one foot diameter silver orb that is a hard light hologram training system that can mimic the personality, looks, fighting style, and abilities (within the limit of sweepers) of any hero in it's database at the time it trained them. You could show an old hero in their prime or something goofy like a teenage geeky Solarion.

Chris Gast

A device that eats time in its vicinity (consuming more than half of each minute for power). A pipe organ that plays a song that greatly increases entropy for non-living materials and entities. An automaton reverse 3D printer, that takes in constructed things and turns them into neat piles of sorted resources.

Anon

A Neuralyzer that deletes all forms of computer storage. Could be an additional explanation for why it wasn't used since it would also piss of a lot of tinkers and stop the train's functions. Imagine, the train roof opens and out comes a giant metallic tower that flashes everyone.

Crownfall

We haven't seen much bio engineering or bio tinkers

alex ayala

an Android shaped like tinker-bell with minor reality warping powers it'll fit his magic AND his tinker themes plus it would be a cute mascot plus it might make a good counter to chemistro if you balance the power correctly also you could give it a funny personality and have a convenient vehicle for comedic relief lol

Jeanean

If you want to take the more mysterious and simplistic angle, I would say to make it a floating ball of metal. It can't do muc aside from being near indestructible and moving very, very fast, but sometimes that is more than enough to play bowling with some Replicators.

FreakShow

A mech version of jimmy neutron’s dad that send the replicators to the shadow realm

Nobody

The entirety of car 14 is the magnum opus, it's a Metal Gear style Gundam.

Donovan

RAILGUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam Roundfield

Utility fog can instantly reconfigure to take any form or no form at all... It's more advanced than nanotech, works on the pico or femto scale with zero point energy integration, can effectively withstand any attack by harvesting any incoming energy, directly converts matter to energy with seamless control. This could easily be integrated into the entire train but requires a specific mind-machine interface to properly utilize...

Chris Gast

A viral chain letter style program which communicates itself to every other receptive device, improves itself, and retransmits, eventually using up all available processing and memory usage until it bricks everything that it has managed to spread to, requiring complete replacement or manual alternatives to whatever was infected.

Findell

a von neumann swarm of nanomachines that destory replicators

M.J. Markgraf

Self replicating grey goo, never a good option :)

DaShoe

An energy redirecting/amplifying mech. Hit it with a 100 MW laser and it shoots it back at you 100 fold. Hit it like a truck and it hits you back like a 100 trucks. Bullets turn into kinetic energy to allow it to move even faster. I like the idea above where it is a chaos energy but I feel like the fight sequence would just be absolutely devastating and in a different path then Perry would take.

Brell

Second idea: contagious replicator neuterer. It blasts out a signal that permanently removes the ability of technology to repair or reproduce other technology. The replicator drones would realize what was done to them quickly, then self-destruct. Anyone trying to fix their gear or the train would fail, and any tool they tried to use would pass along the curse to anything it was used on. Particularly clever capes might keep these items for future battles with replicators, but doing so would make civilization very vulnerable to Prawns.

Gerald Monroe

A device that distorts the laws of physics just enough that replicators (and most other tinkertech) quits working. Including itself, making it a true one shot weapon. Basically it reasserts sane laws of physics ever so briefly. Perry's stuff that is non magical all becomes mundane.

David Giles

A kill-bot that has to be given a designated target, broad as your like, but can't ever be assigned something new. Once it's set on Replicator, that's it.

Gavriel

I would combine metal, organic, and magic, and have the Magnum Opus be a self defined reality, and people go mad because it is literally diving into attunement, as a tinker essentially works by dipping their minds into the tide, and when you gaze at the abyss, the abyss gazes back The Magnum Opus should be a solid block of materials (many exotic), with nothing moving except the basic rules of that reality itself, it's literally an anchored reality that moves it's personal dimension around it; the reason it can be "destroyed" is that reality will absorb it when all pieces of it become smaller than a single barley kernal (using the old biblical limits of magic as inspiration). You can also make it require leaving some of your attunement behind, but I prefer the idea that it instantly power-levels your attunement, causing soul damage to those without powerful enough souls to manage it

A disgruntled nondescript squirrel

a cyborg chimp wearing a male kimono with an indian accent, and telekinetically poring a glass of wine (sounds like an Indian wolverine from the 90s cartoon)

Sanairb

The Opus grows stronger as it canalbalizes more train cars. They don't use it often because of the massive cost of replacing cars.

Michael She

Sentient Nano-bro swarm gets my vote
