Happy New Year!

The idea to do a state of the author address has been rattling around in my head now. Here's where I'm going to self report on myself, my work, and my plans for 2024.

Myself: I bought a gym membership in 2023 so I could play racquetball, and that's been working well. At the beginning of the year, the people there were worried I might have a heart attack. I've since lost 11 lbs and they're slightly less worried...or they've given up caring.

Physically, I'm much improved. Mentally, holding steady. Got some major expenditures looming over the horizon but I'm hoping to conquer them handily.

My work: I'm going to try to finish Industrial Strength Magic. I don't wanna be known as that guy who doesn't finish his series. I have a rough idea of a concept for another book after the dragon one, though it's not really refined well.

After that is done, I'm probably spent on ISM. Do not be alarmed though, it might take all of 2024 to make that happen.  After that, I want to put a satisfying end on The Stitched Worlds and Wake of the Ravager.

After THAT! (possibly 2-5 years from now)

I wanna write either a gritty revenge series as my magnum opus, or a simple, stupid Tower Climber as a break from thinking. Both of those sound fun to me.

Immediate Plans: I plan on releasing book 1 of Industrial Strength Magic on Kindle Unlimited at the end of January, and to that end, I also plan on releasing a chapter a day on Royalroad to psych people up. Starting today.I will also be editing book 2 and that cuts into my writing time a bit, so expect the ~2ch. weeks to continue through January.

What does this mean for you?

$10: gradual loss of chapter lead, as I can't do 1 ch. per day because I'm a weak little baby unlike Warby Picus or Rinoz. I will eventually regrow this lead, don't worry.

$5: A strong start, but eventually you'll catch up to present..maybe by 4 days to a week. It will then slip out of your hands again in a couple months.

$1: CHAPTERS BABBYYYYYYYAs usual, $1 subscribers get the moment in the spotlight during a chapter dump.TLDR: Author losing weight (healthy weight loss), Chapter dump January (For RR), 1 more ISM book after this, Kindle release ISM 1 at end of month, editing #2 will delay chapters somewhat. Also, Ask Me Anything! I'm in a mood, and the State of the Author Address is about answering questions, too!New Years Resolution: Increase emergency fund in case this whole writing side hustle doesn't work out.

Glad to hear you’re doing well. Don’t burn yourself out with all the chapters! Keep up the good work and happy new year!

Cliff

Congrats on the weight loss! Love me some racquetball. I've been plowing my way through stitched worlds and ravager on Kindle and audible respectively after catching up on ISM, can't wait to see what you churn out next.

Astral Broker

Racquetball is a great game for losing weight. Happy New Year! What is your favorite part of writing ISM? I love the magic system, especially the “mystical chemistry” kind of angle.

Oth

Any plans on returning to soulmonger?

Macronomicon

YEAH! the original idea was sparked with Astra's mending and demon summoning. I though 'what if there was a way to make ritual magic so streamlined that it became mechanical in nature or wildly unethical?' That idea was most of the start of ISM, plus I just got done reading another superhero webseries and I wanted to try it out for myself. My favorite part of any series is the application of wit inside the established rules of the series, in this case it was abusing the ritual magic until it cried for mercy.

JSaximus75

Slow and steady progress is great! How's ya day going?

FreakShow

What about Jeb or Necrodad. Could be I fell off but I don’t member either of those officially ending.

i shteynberg

yeah. don’t be john ringo. finish your series.

vetro 26

Love this guy. Keep up the good work 👍

Ted mend

Thanks for the update, just write at a place that makes good read time fun :)

nugitoBambino

Any chance we can have a sequel to ISM where Gareth and Sera are isekaid and get up to shenanigans? I feel like reading about them would be hilarious. Maybe a cultivator setting so we have lots of things for sera to explode

Kote's chronicles

I'm most hyped for WOR, big second Stiched worlds.

Macronomicon

I hadn't given it any thought. Never made a series so long that children get their own books. first time for everything I suppose.

Macronomicon

Not at the moment. I enjoyed writing the series, but I don't have the leisure to work on a series that isn't popular...yet. one day.

Cory C.

Jeb is Stitched Worlds.

Macronomicon

So far so good. was up late yesterday with fam watchign the ball drop so i'm a little tired. other than that, doing goood. in a good work headspace, since it's monday.

Macronomicon

necrodad kinda-sorta had an ending. sort of a dun-dun DUN kind of ending, but an ending nonetheless. Jeb is Stitched worlds, so he's on the list of things to get to.

nugitoBambino

haha well i mean you can finish at your own pace and timing and then do a big ol timeskip. Idk, i just think they're already shaping up to be pretty fun characters. Them going out on their first nights and ending up isekai'd just seems like it's ripe for hilarity (sera forcing gareth to be the 'villian' to her 'hero' despite his lackluster desire for any involvement, Perry and co able to track and communicate with them but getting convinced them figuring it out on their own is a growing experience, ect.)

Yshua

Astra? What’s this a reference to?

StrollingEye

You don't write about cold winter's much in your stories. Or Alaska. Is this because you write to escape? Or is Alaska your happy place?

Scott

Revenge but sneaky and evil. See, don't let it slip that it's a revenge at all. Maybe even disguise it as a tower climber at first. Give us a good volume or so to love a character, then kill em off! Really get us invested in that character. Then starts the revenge story.

Macronomicon

I feel as though it's kind of boring? there's nothing magical to me about cold winters, it just sucks.

Macronomicon

Lol, it was both the whole time! Good idea!

DM

I’m glad to hear you’re planning on more Stitched Worlds. That’s been my favorite. Equally glad to hear your health is on the upward path! Have a great new year.

Jeff Wells

But all the shoveling! Umm... and cold weather camping is pretty hardcore? There's that YouTuber who does crazy Alaska camping stuff, that's pretty sweet. I actually once ran into that guy and his family having breakfast at a waffle place in Anchorage. There we go, Alaska defended.

Josh Cothran

I bet you would do the best tower climber in the history of tower climbers

Enzo Elacqua

Glad to hear you’re doing well! I’ve seen authors drop due to not enough focus on their own wellbeing, so it’s nice to know you’re on top of that. Just got a few questions. Do you make most of your money from Patreon or kindle? Like is there a graph of sales where you realize you’ve tapped all of the readers you would likely acquire through royalroad and then move to kindle? Or is more in the vein of trying to publish as soon as you have a good enough edit to do so? Also did you notice a massive drop in subscribers when you finished a series?

Macronomicon

Most comes from Kindle, about 1.5 times the amount of patreon, yearly. There is a graph of sales on Kindle, but not RR or Patreon. Instead, the impetus for me to move is that I'm starting a new fiscal year and most sales from other books I have on Kindle have run their course and are only pulling in a little bit, while my Patreon income is holding steady at only slightly more than cost of living. In order to reset kindle's income stream, create a buffer, and be ready for repairs to my home, medical bills, potential emergencies, and next year's taxes, I'm putting the series on kindle to earn a lump sum followed by a gradually dwindling income over time. As for subscriber drop off, maybe 20-40% when switching series, at a guess. I don't have precise tracking data on hand. I lost a lot when I did Soulmonger, but slightly less with other transitions

lewdlegume

Your racquetball story is sick! I know from personal experience just how grueling it can be to get through the first couple months of something like that, and losing 11 pounds from it is even more impressive. Also, I appreciate the Warby Picus mention - they're an absolute monster, and I have NO idea how they're able to put out the level of prose they do at the rate they do.

Atoms88

A Macronomicon take on Sword Art Online Tower Climber would be great. Maybe a flip of the story, anti-climber? The story of a guy who wants to stall out the tower climb?

ioajfidsnmfomds77

I’d put the odds of old series getting finished at about 50%

Ronin

Or a dude who really enjoys anything but climbing the tower, but constantly being Forced to through wacky hijinks.

ImYou

Ty much luck
