 *GAME-WINNING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

This definitely felt like it COULD conclude the series, but at the same time opened SO many doors for possibilities with where the show could go! And I'm SO glad I still have a movie left to go! I'm not ready to end this show!

This finale had everything I could want while STILL leaving mystery and plot to be hopefully addressed in the "Providence" movie -- I cannot WAIT to find out!

Anime Annie

The flashes through Shindo, Maiko, and Kei's shared past feels so cinematic with how the quick snippets are done as well as the focus being placed on certain things/people. Also, them as babies is just too darn adorable. I would point out that yes Akane has known for quite some time, but considering the age Shindo would have been at the time his father brought him to the Sibyl System, it'd be more accurate to say that Shindo saw the truth of the Sibyl System first. Just he was forced to forget about it. I love the visual of Shindo and Kei grasping hands to pull Shindo out of the Mental Trace. Also Kei providing that support to his friend over their communication system just further proof that even if they're not in the same place/on the same path, Kei will be there for Shindo to rely on 🥺 And it goes both ways. Their friendship really gets my heart so much! And it really is such a healthy friendship, even with the secrets between them. "Did you mean to ask that stupid question?" this quip from Kougami 😆 He takes no BS or prisoners. Definitely think he could get along well with Kagami 😉 Did you ever think in Season 2 we'd see Mika happily fist bump a male Enforcer?? I really do love the change in her character in this regard. Also her willingness to praise Enforcers for their work 🥺 I laughed when Kougami said "Teamwork makes all the difference". Coming from the man who went after Makishima on his own 🤣 His other fights were very much one-on-one, but he did have help in the background. Not entirely sure though if that could be considered any different from CID pinning their trust on Shindo. But yes Kougami's face at Kei's "This is our teamwork". Man felt like he'd be thrown into a high school sport anime 🤣 If you can believe there isn't actually any Kougami/Kei fanfics...at least not on AO3. The lighting/shadow work when they're in that paddywagon really makes Azusawa so villainous looking. Though I gotta say the grin he has reminds me a lot of The Grinch 😆 Sibyl System with Azusawa really were kicking the man when he was already down by dwindling down his worth to that of a "self-righteous game enthusiast". Obata waiting in the snow for Azusawa really solidified their friendship for me. As much as I like the way Obata didn't take his crap, until that moment I did question on if she stuck around with him because that was the best option for her. Or if she cared for him as much as he cared for her. Shindo driving at this point is quite significant. From we met him he never drove. He always relied on Kei or one of the Enforcers to do the driving for him. Its such a subtle thing but I feel it's a great way to show the connection Shindo felt with cars (because of his father's death) has now come to an end. I did giggle at your comment before about Ginoza being a good person for Shindo to talk to about fathers 😂 Them meeting in that moment because they were both visiting their graves just makes the scene all the more poignant. But yeah they had to just hit us in the feels by Ginoza doing the same thing as Masaoka 😭 I cannot say how happy I was with that Shion and Kunizuka scene. Once again Psycho-Pass proving that shows can give us these kinds of relationships in such a natural and realistic way. Also nice to see them happy and together. No "Bury Your Gays" trope here 🥳 Poor Mika doesn't have any of the minibots to relieve her stress after Homura drops all those bombshells on her. But damn to I love the animation team for giving us all those expressions from her. Mika was already popping pills and squeezing those minibots to death when she just had the antics of Kei and Shindo to deal with, on top of the Enforcers. Now she's gonna have Akane [as an Enforcer] and Homura [as her boss] to deal with. By this point I did come to like Mika's character a lot more, but I don't think its enough for me to feel too sorry for her having to deal with all that 🤣 I was waiting for your fangirling with the KouAka scene 🥰 1) He came to pick her up like a gentleman [but also because Enforcers have to be escorted around, but I like to imagine him beating everyone else in rock-paper-scissors to have the honour] 2) They're both so soft with one another 3) Akane initiated asking Kougami out on a date [I will take no other interpretations of this scene 😆] 4) Even though she's now an Enforcer, and therefore would be considered lower on the totem pole than Kougami, Kougami doesn't change his way of speaking with her, and willingly accepts her being the one in charge 🥺 The only downside to this scene, for me, is that it makes me want to have a Kougami of my own 😂 This ending definitely gave us enough answers whilst also leaving some things open. There are a few moments that are a bit clunky and confusing in how the characters went from Point A to Point B. Yes, all the people knowing about the Sibyl System by this point makes you understand why in Season 1 we feel so hurt over the loss of Kagari 😭 But I'd say Homura knows at least something considering how he was with Kasai, and that he helped Shindo with Azusawa's unconscious body at the entrance of what I call the Brain Room. Togane was also aware of the truth and was not killed for it. I was behind you with the shower scene until you mentioned Jujutsu Kaisen. Shower scene? Yes. Shower scene with the character extremely depressed and you can almost visibly see when they break? No, Jujutsu Kaisen can keep that one, thanks 😂

Loved the reaction & discussion! We’ve reached the official end of S3 with First Inspector! 🥳😭 Regarding production: From interviews with the primary director for the whole series (Naoyoshi Shiotani), he has mentioned using Sinners of the System as a kind of “process reset” and tech-demo for what they wanted future Psycho-Pass to be (in terms of technology used, production logistics, etc, etc), along with telling the additional stories they’d wanted to work on. I feel that may have been quite ambitious (an entire season looking like SS?) and we definitely see evidence of them struggling with this in some parts of S3. While they have not gone into specific details of any production issues, they did announce S3 back in 2019 as an 8-episode season and I don’t recall seeing any news of it initially being 11 and then being delayed or split. First Inspector was released as a movie in Japan at the very end of March 2020 and a few weeks later generally released as a 3-part series for streaming. The casefile Sinners of the System mini art-book I included in my parcel is actually from the SS limited edition Blu-ray set – it features short interviews with the primary creative team about each film. I think it provides a really good insight into how the Psycho-Pass team works and how collaborative their creative process is. FI: I really felt for you at the beginning of First Inspector – and the frustration of knowing how much would need to be resolved (plot threads, character threads (for old and new), the Entire Sibyl Situation?!, etc) and how could it be in 3 eps, especially with its pacing? I had the privilege of knowing FI wasn’t the end when I first watched – even though this was a spoiler in a sense, so I had a lot of fun with its start as an evolving “bottle episode.” I love how FI wrapped up in (to me) classic Psycho-Pass fashion – things resolved, things set up, characters set on new trajectories and getting us so excited for more! Azusawa & Obata: Azusawa is definitely one of my favourite PP antagonists – I feel similarly. Calculating, manipulative, fun-having baddies devolving into hysterics? Bathe me in their despairing tears. 🤣 The fight with Arata was wonderful – I think there are only 2 fights I really care about in S3+FI: the delightful layers of Kogami & Gino reappearing and Arata & Kei taking them on early on in S3, and then this one. The desperation of Arata trying to believe in some semblance of justice from Sibyl, not wanting to kill or be forced to kill; the desperation of Azusawa being rejected by the representation of his self-image – also fighting the person who was accepted AND in front of whom he was rejected! Delicious! 🥰 I love the Obata/Azusawa dynamic – the way they take turns being the gremlin in any given situation, they’re a lot of fun to watch. And they definitely care about one another. KuniKara 🥰: Shion & Yayoi are probably the most important representation of a female couple in anime (to me personally) – if anyone else has any other examples of 2x non-infantilised adult female characters getting the same treatment from their show? Literally, please let me know – I am desperate for it! And I mean the full set of requirements: in design, in mannerisms, in demeanour, in attitude, no internalised homophobia, two adult women who know and understand themselves - not “side plot,” just reality. I also want to reiterate that all the latent criminal “employees” – they literally cannot leave the PSB without authorisation, supervision and a legitimate reason (so mostly work-related or, I guess, pray your assigned inspector is not a Sibyl-fucker). So, Shion getting to go for a walk AND with her beloved – I cannot overstate how beautiful this was to see, even just by itself. But then knowing they get to be together? To be honest, I forgive all – because Psycho-Pass has given me KuniKara. 🥰 Hinakawa: getting a tiny moment of making the remaining trio of enforcers to behave? S2 Hinakawa would not have even uttered a sound! Our precious bean continues to grow. 🥰 Your Shinkane journey continues to be a delight, love the scene of Akane’s release. The rest of the MOFA squad – love how much of them we got in FI. I need much more though. Kagari mention also noted 🧡 – I am saving some thoughts regarding this for post-Providence (along with some other topics). I apologise in advance... 😆 My final thing for now – getting that Gino and Arata conversation! 🥰 When you’d mentioned it in S3, I got so excited knowing what was coming. Cannot wait for next week! 🧡 Onwards and upwards 🧡

Yessss, all of the scenes with Maiko, Shindo, and Kei were so well done and beautiful! It made me feel for them so much! And Kei pulling Shindo out of the mental trace? I love it! I love that despite all the background noise that makes me want to hit a wall, these two are still helping each other and that their friendship is not so easily undone! Kogami is just here for Akane and maybe Ginoza and just tolerates everyone else! I felt that “teamwork” line was almost a parody or done for comedy! But ahahahaha – I could so see the two of them in a sports anime at that point - THERE ARE NO KEI/KOGAMI Fan fics?! WHAT?! INSANITY! Honestly, NO, I never thought that Mika would “happily” fist bump an Enforcer from season 2! SUCH Growth for her! She’s come a long way alongside everyone else! I LOVE the “Grinch Lighting” on Azusawa - it’s one of the better animation choices in the episode and yes, his “descent into madness” was just so fun to watch go down between him and Arata. I DO really feel for Obata– I’m glad neither of them actually died, so who knows - maybe they’ll be enforcers together down the road? I think she’s totally a tsundere and probably did like him underneath all her griping to him. He at least seemed to be kind to her all things considered. OH, that is a really good note about Arata driving! I had not considered that – but that’s so true! Yes, a subtle thing but showing him evolving and progressing as a character in such a little way; I love it! Thanks for pointing that out! And GINOZA SHOWING Up and hitting us with the Masaoka wave?! Insanity! I loved it! PLUS, we get Shion and Kunizuka happy? *fangirls* I just love it and that scene together with them - and yessss, no “Doomed Yuri” here, thank you very much! Poor Mika needs to jump on board while the going is good, especially after Homura just waltz’s in and takes over and gives her just the “best news!” Girl is gonna need a daily sauna visit to melt off all that stress! The KouAka scene is soooooo amazing! He’s just so perfect for her, she’s so perfect for him - they’re so perfect for each other! And that scene is 100% a date - “treat me to something” - how could it be anything ELSE?! Yeah, they are #couplesgoals in that scenario for sure! Kagari’s death definitely stings so much – especially now that all these people know the situation! Homura definitely has something up his sleeve, which is why I hope we get future seasons to go into further detail with all of this! And yessssss, JJK can keep that SPECIFIC shower scene for sure, but I was reminded! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Yessss! We made it! I can’t believe we’re here! Oooohhhhhhhh so First Inspector was a MOVIE first and then the streaming service split it into three episodes - that makes much more sense! It definitely makes sense if it finished production and came out in 2020 with the animation issues - covid was a rough time for animation, so I can see how that affected things. Thank you for that introspection, though! I was happy with how First Inspector wrapped up - even without Providence you could have this as a stand alone ending but yeah, going in, I was so curious how it could wrap pu and I’m glad that the series “technically” (you know…just saying…) could end up having more to it if they “wanted” to create another season! “Bathe me in their despairing tears!” Ahahaha! I love that with Obata and Azusawa – they were a really fun pair and I enjoyed their banter a lot, I agree! And Azusawa did seem to care about Obata and she turns out to be a secret tsundere? I live! Azusawa vs. Arata was SO engaging! Yes, because Arata doesn’t want to kill him and wants there to be justice outside of Sybil - and Asuzawa coming into his tragic villain final form and all the layers with rejection and acceptance right THERE – delicious, indeed! And NO DOOMED YURI – very excited and happy for the two of them! I was so pleased! I love what they represent and I can’t wait to gush in the livestream about it! But yeah, they are just SUCH a well rounded romantic couple - regardless of any other factors – I’m so happy they get a “happy ending,” especially with Shion freed from the PSB. But YES, them getting a happy ending — I still mourn Kagari, but I’m sure he’d be happy for them, too! Speaking of auburn/red heads, I’m so proud of Hinakawa as well! I cannot wait for all the commentary with Providence, but yes, the ShinKane goodness did NOT LET DOWN - I agree, I could have had more of our MOFA Hounds, but the moments with Akane and Kogami at the end just melted my heart on a cold winter’s day – I could gush for hours about them! AND YES, GINOZA AND ARATA – the show KNEW what it was doing and I’m so elated for it! That conversation and Ginoza’s “dad wave” wrecked my soul in the best way! But yes, next weeeeeeek - SO ready! Thank you for the comment and kind words!
