I mentioned in the episode three comments that there was an episode with a translation difference that toned down the sapphic reading of a character and this is the one I was talking about: during Bocchi’s fantasy at the beginning of the episode you can hear men screaming her name but the woman yells “hold me!”, in the manga it read “hold me!❤️” and a cut line is another woman yelling “ravish me!❤️” Also the classmate who is talking about someone playing at the festival in the manga doesn’t say they would be “so cool!” but that it would “be dreamy!❤️” I’ve seen fan translations that render it as “If someone from this class played I’d fall in love!”

No Spoilers! Only music! I absolutely love the music in this show, so I'll be listing the songs we hear (only after we hear them, don't worry!), in case anyone wants to check out the music on their favorite streaming platforms. This episode we get to see Kikuri Hiroi's band SICK HACK in action, performing their song "Watashi Dake Yuurei". They're described as a Psychedelic Rock band, which is a genre I am very familiar with as my parents were huge fans of Pink Floyd, The Doors, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, and so many more of those 60-70's Psychedelic Rock bands. Needless to say I heard this type of music A LOT during my youth, lol. (Pink Floyd is still one of the best bands of all time and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise) (Singer names listed with given name first) Kessoku Band: OP: "Seishun Complex" ( 青春コンプレックス, lit. "Youth Complex" ) - Kessoku Band, sung by Ikuyo Kita ED1 (ep 1-3): "Distortion!!" - Kessoku Band, sung by Ikuyo Kita ED2 (ep 4-7): "Karakara" ( カラカラ, lit. "Clatter" ) - Kessoku Band, sung by Ryo Yamada ED3 (ep 8-?): "Nani ga Warui" ( なにが悪い, lit. "What is Wrong With" ) - Kessoku Band, sung by Nijika Ijichi EP5: "Guitar, Loneliness and Blue Planet" ( ギターと孤独と蒼い惑星[ホシ] ) - Kessoku Band, sung by Ikuyo Kita EP8: "That Band" ( あのバンド ) - Kessoku Band, sung by Ikuyo Kita Other Bands: EP2: "8-gatsu o Yubiori Kazoeru Kimi to Machi de Deaeru Kakuritsu ni Tsuite" ( 8月を指折り数える君と町で出逢える確率について, lit. "About the Odds of meeting you in town, counting the days of August") - Sung by Alexandrism. Actually by Fuzzy Logic EP3: "Dakishime Magic" ( 抱きしめMagic, lit "Hug Magic") - by AKORINGO EP10: "Watashi Dake Yuurei" ( ワタシダケユウレイ, lit "I'm the only ghost" ) - by SICK HACK, sung by Kikuri Hiroi Bocchi's mini-songs: EP1: "Oshiire yori Ai o Komete" ( 押入れより愛をこめて, lit. "With love from the closet") EP2: "Cocktail no Uta" ( カクテルの唄, lit. "Cocktail Song") EP2: "Kaze Hike no Uta" ( 風邪ひけの唄, lit. "Song for catching a cold") EP3: "Double Kokurekishi Bocchi Hikigatari Version" ( ダブル黒歴史ぼっち弾き語りversion, "Double Dark Past, Bocchi Acoustic Version" ) EP3: "Sono Hi Haitta Shinjin yori Tsukaenai Dame Baito no Elegy" ( その日入った新人より使えないダメバイトのエレジー, "The Elegy of a Part-Time Worker Who Lost Her Identify to the Just-Arrived Newbie") EP6: "Guitar wa Tomodachi" ( ギターは友達, lit. "Guitar is my friend" )

Yeah more Bo-Kita energy, the interaction there was so cute. Kita felt bad maybe she made Bocchi feeling pressure, but the pure gratitude of Bocchi just melted her immediately. Oh my, let’s just ship Bo-Kita forever!!!

StuCee

Maybe this has already come up, but now you have met Sick Hack I think it's ok to say our drunken master Kikuri is loosely based on Margarette Hiroi, vocalist and bassist of real-life band 88Kasyo Junrei. This video of theirs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D90AOhojK3M gives a vibe of the animated gremlin of the show (and the can of Saba Misoni from the OP turns up in the last 15 seconds). And here's some live footage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa_dFewVfeU (with some Hiroi crowd-surfing around six minutes in).

Mr X

Ryo's hyperfixation moment here gave me some neurospicy vibes.

romaniablack

Ahhh, I could definitely see that! Thank you for the comment! "Neurospicy" is also so great a term!

romaniablack

I have really come to like the BoKita energy between them; they're such opposites but it works so well! Thank you for the comment!

romaniablack

OH MY GOSH she IS Kikuri! Even more wild than Kikuri in the show - I can 1000% see the inspiration! Thank you so much for the video links and information and comment! That is so badass!

romaniablack

Ooohhh, interesting about that! I love that with the sapphic line! I love that there’s that tone to it as well - I think (if Bocchi got over her nerves and social anxiety about it) she’d be down! 😀Thank you for the comment and that information!

romaniablack

Thank you for the comment, the information, and the kind words! My dad was a big Pink Floyd fan and liked psychedelic rock as well, so he introduced me to a lot of the music you mentioned as well when I was growing up. I definitely want to do a "ranking" of the songs in early August (to give me time after I'm caught up with episode 12 to listen to them and make the video) so your list will be SUPER helpful! I can't wait!!
