Momo burning her hands to open the pod was definitely a reference to evangelion... Dan da dan has had a few here and there but that one was the most overt to me

Manjiro finally appeared again so I can say I really like him! I have some sort of a soft spot towards characters that fight using martial arts. I really liked the scene where Momo, him and Mother Kito fought Evil Eye. I, personally, do not think that the op is very spoilery. I mean sure, something may be there that suggest something, outside of a design of currently unknown character, but really if a person didn't read the manga that opening does not tell anything... There are a lot more spoilery openings of other series than this one. Of course Seiko with her team saved the day but IMO Momo is an MVP. She is really capable of thinking fast and her powers are so useful. How she handled the magma problem was very impressive, and her supporting Manjiro and Mother Kito in a fight so they weren't hit by Evil Eye. I like how in Dandadan we explore the process of how yokais are created. Like they're NOT ghosts they originally were. Acrobatic Silky of course was a ghost of that woman before, but she turned yokai because of her despair of being hurt and losing her child and turning her motherly behaviour towards Aira. Similarily Evil Eye who was a ghost of that albino kid murdered as a sacrifice, but he became yokai when the hatred towards humans owerwhelmed him and he fused with that one kid. They really aren't the ghosts of the people they used to be, theyre totally new entities formed from the strong emotions and experiences. Thats nice diving into japanese culture and yokais lore. And additionaly mixing it with aliens and cryptids - thats something I love Dandadan for. Even if I do not like Kito's family as a people, I can not not enjoy Mother Kito during actions/fight scenes lmao. I love to see her kicking ass! There is something with Dandadan's "randomness" that reminds me a little bit of One Piece. Of course the stories and humour are different, but both of these series kind of take the most random, crasy shit ad make it the part of the universe and, shockly, it DOES make sense. I like that these authors are not afraid of experimenting and writing really crazy solutions. It's so fun to watch/read.

When I was watching this episode, when it was finished, I was like, “ It’s the friends we made along the way!” That song Chiquitita sang was adorable! He was there singing his little heart out because everyone helped his father. Ripples in a pond! I can imagine what Momo was thinking looking into that pool of magma. It seems pretty hopeless, I mean, magma! There usually is no escaping that! Just ask Pompeii! ( although that was more like a pyroclastic flow) She would not take that as the end result! She found a way. And that reunion! On my, so romantic! I think this is the first time she really acts on her feelings towards Okarun. I mean, his name is Ken Takakura after all! What a great episode! Talk about Natsume, I have got to dive into some of those since you are covering the manga as well! Thank you again for a great reaction!

That was a fun episode so i won't question the physics of stopping a lava flow with a bit of water and worm mucus. And it's unclear how supernatural the whole Mongolian Death Worm thingy was so perhaps a bit of magical properties there too. I wouldn't think much of the rest of the town knows what the Kito family is up to (atleast now in modern times, and perhaps their weird looks and grey blood is just a visual representation of their moral decay) as it doesn't seem like Manjiro and by extension Seiko would allow it if it was in any way known. Speaking of the Kito family, where did they go? We don't want them to get away as they are murderers and sex pests. Did we even see the women (except the matriarch) at all after they got eaten by the worm? Yeah Seiko definitely has expressed some perhaps less than progressive views on masculinity, she had a few jabs at Okarun last season.

This episode was so good! I loved seeing Momo's ingenuity in how she handles all these situations. From using the goo from the worm to cool down the lava, and using the worm itself as a sort of hose, to just refusing to let the Kito family win and perpetuate their ignorance and bias by happestance. It was wonderful. Seeing grandma Seiko appear with the Mantis guy, Taro, Chuiquitita and a full-blown space ship was super unexpected and so cool, too! I was NOT expecting her to come here since she had explicitely sent Momo to deal with this whole thing, but I'm glad to see that she had a plan in motion all along. What did kill me with laughter was seeing how she still refuses to believe in aliens, as she keeps calling the Mantis guy a "Kappa", as if he were a yokai, and not an alien *lol* I wonder what she made of riding in a space ship and all. The moment that Evil Eye appears, I kept waiting for Okarun to appear as well, after all, if Evil Eye could get out surely he could as well, which kept me on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. Sealing Evil Eye inside Taro was so cool, and not how I thought we were going to deal with him; I thought that we were going to have a talk-no-jitsu and have Momo and Okarun be able to bring JIji to the forefront and control Evil Eye, and that might still happen, I don't know, but I like this choice for the moment a whole lot. I wonder what will happen with Evil Eye now. After all, we had Turbo Granny having to be forcefully removed from Okarun, and unwittingly leaving him her powers; and Acrobatic Silky leaving her essence in Aira when she saved her life; so, I'm really looking forward to see how this third case is handled. All I need to say to end this comment is that the hug at the end, with Momo just resting against Okarun, had my heart, it was so sweet!

Yesssss, I was wondering if that was a reference so that makes 100% sense - I should not be surprised there are those references in this series! :D Thank you for the comment!

I am so head over heels for Manjiro so far!! I really love his “official” introduction, here! I agree about the OP - so far, I really like it and I’m sure I’ll “get” the “spoilers” once I know the context, but we’re not there yet! 😛 Momo really was the MVP of this arc, I agree! She was so good on her feet, using her intellect, and trying also to save both Okarun and not let Jiji get hurt in the process, either! And yessss, the origin of the yokai is so fascinating and I like the series takes the time to reveal how yokai can be created differently. Momma Kito is a lot of fun to watch, that’s for sure, but yeah, I’m with you in the Kito Family causing a lot of grief in this! And oooooh, I can see that connection to One Piece! Yes! But the HUMOR I so see drawing from One Piece! I also agree that’s really cool when authors experiment and go crazy in fun ways while still being well done and engaging! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

HAHAHA – DanDaDan is all about the journey, not the destination! And YES, Chiquita is officially ADORABLE and I love him so much! That song was stuck in my brain for a while after finishing this episode - he’s so precious! The connection to Pompeii is so there this episode! I love that she was willing to barrel through without giving up without a fight, though! I was 1000% down for the romantic reunion between them! And YES, leave it to fearing that her potential bestie-crush is soaked in magma to realize perhaps that life is short - why not act on her feelings? And yes, he IS Ken Takakura after all! 😀 Thank you so much for the comment and kind words and yes, Natsume is such a comfort anime, in all seriousness! I just adore it!

romaniablack

Hahahaha, right?! I guess that’s equivalent to me questioning Jiji running with two fully-formed teenagers in his arms - SHONEN LOGIC! XD And we’ll say, “MAGIC” too! Haha! I agree - we didn’t get a clear idea of where the Kito family went - there’s a lot of mystery surrounding them, so “HMMM” indeed! And yes, Seiko is definitely a “representative of the past” in aspects, ideas of masculinity being one of them! But she at least knows her way around a bat – *sips tea and walks away* Thank you for the comment!

Christopher Pettersson

Haha, well Seiko might have her flaws but i wouldn't ever bet against her, nor would i want to be on her bad side.

romaniablack

I loved this episode so much! Momo was such an MVP in all this - I love her showing her intelligence and ability in this episode - it was indeed wonderful! And her conviction to putting the Kito family in their place! The showing up of Seiko, Taro, Mantis Man, and Chiquita was SO surprising - I was not expecting it with Manjiro! It also establishes Evil Eye as such threat if even SEIKO has to show up! That is actually hilarious for Seiko to still be in denial of Mantis Man being an alien! XD I hadn’t thought of it that way! I honestly expected Okarun to show up, too, and “save the day” but I like the subversion that one of our MC’s is not going to be the “hero” and TARO of all characters is the one to be the seal for Evil Eye! I honestly was expecting what you were to happen, so I like that what I was anticipating happening was not the final result - it made for a delight of a surprise this week! I’m curious as well to what will happen with Evil Eye and I can’t wait to find out and see if it’s like the Silky or Turbo Granny situation at all! And SERIOUSLY - that hug between Momo and Okarun at the end?! LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE IT! More please! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

romaniablack

This is highly true! I would want to always be on her good side - maybe that's why Jiji complements her 24/7 hahaha!!
