Don't you just love it when the series fries your brain on episode one? :D I have watched Steins;Gate multiple times and each time has been very rewarding so I'm hyped to do it again (I think it's also the only series I've rewatched from beginning to end in dub, so it's cool you're planning on checking it out too). Best of luck to you in trying to figure out what's going on (great effort on episode one btw!) and best of luck to whiteboard-kun, he's gonna need it!

Fun fact: the reason why okarin explains where future gadget lab is in such details is cuz all locations in the show are based on real life places and all building and streets look the same or very similar (some things been rebuild or changed like first building that now has 2 more floors instead of 8). The creator said they wanted to make story as realistic as possible like it could happen so they went with real life locations.

Very normal, very sane show, looking forward to next week.

Speaking of Okarin not being a reliable narrator in this specific way, you may want to familiarize yourself with the character trope that he is, because it pops up a TON in anime. The characters who exhibit it may or may not be unreliable narrators depending on the anime and it's also pretty common to see characters referencing the trope as a sarcastic joke too. Overall it's just a good thing to know about when analyzing Japanese media: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Chuunibyou

Steins;Gate is here! I'm so excited!!! Gosh, I had forgotten how bonkers this show is from the beginning, from the first time I watched it. I watched this show ages ago, and now remember very little, so it'll be very nice to get to rewatch it alongside you. Something I couldn't appreciate the first time I watched it, because it was one of the first anime I watched, was Miyano Mamoru as the VA for Okarin, and I'm already having a great time with that little piece of information xD

To clarify something, this is an adaptation of a visual novel, which the internet informs me was released in 2009. So the source material is from a bit earlier than 2011 (but not all that much earlier).

Consider the brain fried, hahaha! I definitely am loving the dub so far and can’t wait to report back on it each week haha! And Whiteboard-kun and I are going to need each other to get through this, I am sure! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

romaniablack

Oh cool! That’s interesting! Thank you for the comment and the info on all that! 😀

This series appears to be the textbook definition of sane and normal, so yes, VERY excited to see what the weeks ahead hold! Thank you for the comment! :D

Thanks! I talked with the mods and they feel it's best I wait until later to check this article out - I like to be completely blind and let the show guide my theories and explanations, so thank you!

romaniablack

Ahh, good to know! Thank you for the information and the comment! :D

I am SO down for how bonkers and exciting this show is and has me - it’s going to be a fun ride! Miyano Mamoru as the main character? You had me at that alone! Thank you for the comment! 😀

[Cracks open a Dr. Pepper] Does the discussion of the opening episode sounding totally sane just mean we're insane? Breaking down these shows is your forte, hearing all the theories and you working a good mystery just feels like I've hit the denouement of a page turner, and I just can't wait for next week! The brief comparisons to NGE and Madoka were apt, enjoyed those, I still have to watch your NGE (both releases I suppose) reactions eventually! Ah, the age old sub vs dub, why not both? There's been a ton of recent anime releases I've adored the dubs to, and Steins;Game has a big reputation of being one of the all-time best dubs, up there with FMA and a few others, speaking broadly, but I think both FMA and Steins;Gate are more enjoyable in subs for me! So I'm glad you're doing both or mainly subs - and I'm sure a bunch of people mentioned the series you couldn't bring to mind, but maybe SK8? I know you really enjoyed the spin on the lines the VAs for the dub gave that show! :) The Okarin / Okarun is kinda funny, I never realized it watching DanDaDan, but instantly picked up on it going back in to Steins;Gate! Funny how names get re-used, but sometimes the original appearences of them are so unforgettable it's hard to imagine the same name as a totally different character! Like imagine another anime with a main character of Vash, that isn't Vash the Stampede! Haha!

There will be so much Dr. Pepper this series to be had! Hahaha, I have a feeling I will question my sanity this series! Thank you for the kind word and comment and “denouement” gets numerous English Teacher points for vocabulary use! ;) NGE was a fun time and I have a feeling this series will have Whiteboard-kun working out in a similar fashion! I really enjoy FMA’s dub - I watched it in the dub first! I think that subs will work great for the reactions, but I’m excited to check out the dubs as well - when I was doing Death Note reactions, I was doing the subs but would check out the dub in between episodes, too, so that was what I was trying to think of BUT the SK8 dubs are soooo good! I loved it! I honestly get a smidgeon, an “ounce” of Vash in Okarin so far, but even if a character has a molecule of Vash energy in them, you know I’m going to love them! I can’t wait to get further into this series! Thank you again for the kind words and comment!

I'm late but super excited to binge your journey! I loved the whiteboard-kun breakdown and found it hilarious how much Mayurii's demeanor and Okarin's incessant vibrating phone contributed to the imbalanced atmosphere in your reaction haha. I personally thought the Japanese voice actors were beyond phenomenal and am looking forward to binging through the rest of this legendary work!

romaniablack

Hey!! Thank you so much for the comment and joining the journey with me! Whiteboard-kun and I have had so much fun with this series and I hope you enjoy the reactions and discussions!
