*HOME DEPOT'D HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

DanDaDan does not let us down when it comes to going through a VARIETY of tones and emotions in one episode -- from a battle, to the aftermath, to the next phases -- I could NEVER have predicted the route this show was going to take us on, but of course, it's still "Bonkers in the Best Way!"

Let's talk about this wild episode and in the intro about the controversy surrounding this second season!

I think ex japan would actually get money from the popularity of Hayasii in Dandadan if they would play along and be exited about it instead of this whole plagiarism drama. About this dude in the ending scene, I remember how Jiji was in the opening of the first season and was intruduced like in 11 episode of it. It seems that animation studio just does that with Dandadan and thats it lmao. I'm also sad that Manjiro came back to the mountains. I love him. Okarun persuading Evil Eye to not kill humans was really in Atsushi-style, when Atsushi told Akutagawa that he will fight him if Akutagawa would not kill anybody in 6 months.

I'll admit it, this episode gave me a whiplash of emotions. First of all, totally agree that Okarun was super cool coming up with the idea of how to handle Evil Eye by tricking him. The fight was super cool, seeing how he did learn a lot from Turbo Granny's training, but I appreciated that he still used his rapid-fire upercut that he learned from his crunches that Seiko told him to do; and that animation right at the end was insane, I loved the way it looked so overwheling and overpowering. Which is, of course, what Okarun banks on to make Evil Eye agree to his terms. Then we have the little spa day, which was a fun little montage but I appreciated the way that we have gotten to learn a little bit about Seiko through all these episodes. She takes the girls on a spa day because, quite frankly, they needed it after all the madness of having to be constantly vigilant with Evil Eye there; but she does it without any concern to the very real fact that they are homeless and without any money, at least for the momet. And yet, she won't take Momo's money even if she offered it. I think, based on what she told Okarun as well about repaying kindness by paying it forward, that she is a person that puts other people well above any sort of material thing and even her own comfort; which is such a sweet and valuable lesson, though we do see her take it to a bit of a extreme here when she initially refuses the help for the house. But it does make it sweeter to see her kindness be repaid, and her house rebuilt because she has been willing to help all these people along her way. But then we have the whole Jiji of this situation, and that gave me mixed feelings. As glad as I am that a resolution has been had and he went back to his parents, the whole situation with Evil Eye is a bit annoying to me x'D It might just be the second-hand embarrasment, but seeing Evil Eye act clueless, while understandable and making complete sense just irked me to a degree; I don't know, it sort of feels like they are making Jiji, an already unserious and goofy character, even more silly clueless, and that's a little too much for me. Hmm, I think nobody else notices Jiji's transformation into Evil Eye because they don't have a lot, or any, spiritual energy and so can't sense it. If I remember correctly, Aira could see Acrobatic Silky once she came into posession of Okarun's golden ball, but none of her friends could because their spirit energies hadn't been boosted or granted or opened, whichever term best applies to the siuation. Oh! That's such a great point that each of the yokai we have met have been in different stages of maturity that have matched their now respective hosts. That's a cool lilttle detail. I guess I'll have to see how Evil Eye develops, but right now, it's a bit of a toss up for me.

The murderous villain to quirky ally pipeline is strong. Going into the episode I was expecting a bit of combat followed by some talk-no-jutsu but the actual resolution surpassed my expectations. It overall stabilizes the situation with Evil Eye without the need for some drastic emotional breakthrough that could easily feel too sudden. And all of the fun stuff later on not only made Evil Eye more likable and opened the door for more development but also served as a nice breather after a lot of tension under a constant threat. There are so many small (and yet great) character interactions packed into this episode it's hard to comment on. Like Momo hanging onto Jiji while pestering him for being bashful and jabbing Okarun while expecting more from their goodbyes, Aira fighting with Momo and playing with Chiquitita every chance she gets, Seiko having trouble accepting help but taking a pause seeing how genuine Okarun is, Hana... standing. The list goes on and on and I feel like all of those moments really breathe life into the series.

So much knowledge gained in this discussion, that's always fun, thanks! It makes sense for sure, the copyright / fair use differences in Japan and the US and other countries may be even less enforced! I see reactors that have 100,000s subscribers put up videos with no filter on Patreon, I don't know if that's part of the reason behind their success, but I completely get feeling a bit disingenuous about doing that, so it's not pay me $5 a month to provide you pirated media to watch haha! I do get most people would prefer to not have the filter obscuring the video as well. I'm kinda surprised that all flies under the radar too, but I guess at some point it's akin to the Metallica days with napster and it's really not a great look suing high school kids out of their house and clothes for listening to your album. It all goes back to the argument of treat your customers like customers and not thieves I say! Why would I ever want to pay for your product if you're going to restrict it and put all sorts of protection in it to prevent me, the paying customer, from accessing it, meanwhile the free version has none of that crap and just works better? That's how to fail at business 101 IMO. So I totally agree with you, as I said in last week's comment the Hayashii song in the episode was the best song I've heard all year in anime, right up there with Inu-Oh songs. If I found out this band Ex Japan was the inspiration and they were cool and promoting it, I'd almost certainly have listened to them on Spotify, and had I liked what I heard, probably bought some albums or merch. But now? Nope. Not interested one bit. I wonder - where were all these protections to prevent others from releasing your work when MAPPA dropped the ball on Attack on Titan Season 4? I want the timeline where we don't switch away from WIT Studios haha! Because the change in art style is just so awful! But I'm mostly kidding. The whole bit Okarun does on Evil Eye - that's just so Askaladd and Thorfinn isn't it? You can only fight me when you do this impossible task. Not sure I vibe with Jiji's clothes being taken away in front of everyone and Grandma Seiko saying "nice weenie" to him, I feel like if you reversed the genders it would not fly one bit! Curious to see where we go next week, with our new character! Good job catching the end credit sequence - I don't think the show has ever had one prior?

Jiji's mom might be crazy but we haven't seen anything hinting on the same thing for his dad, unless you count him chosing this particular pairing. 😜 At the very least it seems Jiji takes more after his mom. I feel a bit bad for Jiji but at this point his predicament is fully self chosen and not like he doesn't know what Evil Eye is all about now. And sure Jiji, is a good bean and doesn't want a conscious, intelligent being to die on his account, but there where other options.

RIGHT?! I completely agree that X Japan would be so much more in the right if they just built off the popularity of Hayasii instead of making it an ordeal - I get that it’s mainly their lawyers, but it could be such a great power move from the band! HAHAHA, DanDaDan just introducing new characters in the 10th hour - I’m not complaining, though, he seems intriguing!! I really will miss Manjiro, too; he’s such a good guy and I really came to like his character - I wish he could stick around more, but he’s had enough of the kids and wants to be BooTuber. God speed, eyebrow man! XD Ohhhhhhhhhh YESSSSS, you are so on the money! Honestly, Okarun and Atsushi are so similar and I want to hug them both and tell them they can do no wrong! ^^ Thank you for the comment and that great callback!

romaniablack

Yes! A whiplash of emotions indeed!! I liked Okarun’s strategy as well and I love the fight scene! And showing what he learned - it was so good! Our sweet bean! The “spa day” felt like a cleanse after all the tension these last few episodes! I definitely agree that Saiko seems like someone that is about helping others and being tsundere all throughout it, which definitely tracks! I do love that side of Saiko in this and getting a little more subtle characterization with her. YES, thank you, you hit the head on how I felt with this scene - And yes, it does seem to add on to the memeification of Jiji and I just…feel meh about it. It’s not a type of humor I really latch onto, but maybe they’ll do something creative with it later on. I do agree on how the others don’t catch onto the transformation because of a lack of spiritual awareness. That’s a great point about the golden ball! I am with you - EE is a tossup as a character for me, but we shall see! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

romaniablack

“Quirky ally” - I need to use that terminology more often! I do love the way Okarun talk-no-jutsu’d his way with EE and does match the humor of DanDaDan well. DanDaDan does do it best when it’s having character interactions and development, in my opinion! I love Momo hanging on Jiji in the episode - so fun! And Hana (I always forget her name) being included in the “Spa Day” is just adorable. Definitely the best part about this series, I agree! Thanks for the comment!

romaniablack

Yeah, I found the copyright differences in US and Japan SO fascinating! Yeah, as I lost my channel to a bot detecting issues with copyright five years ago, I’m still stressed from it and will not take chances, even though I know the fair use I’m doing in my discussions and reactions. But yeah, it’s wild! But yes, treat your customers like customers! You are preaching to the choir on this about Hayashii - it’s soooo good! And yay, shout out to Inu-Oh! AHAHAHAHA – Okarun as Askeladd and EE as Thorfinn? Well, the latter makes a LOT of connections and sense, surprisingly, but we know how that all goes down. ;) But yes, the “you can only fight me if you do impossible task” - so agree on that! YES, I don’t like the “nice weenie” comment - a lot of nervous laughter there - again, DDD toeing the line on what’s appropriate, but yeah, shoe on the other foot? Not cool, either. Thank you for the comment and kind words! I’m veeeerrry curious where the show is going with the new character and I think season 1 had after-credit sequences, but I don’t remember any in this season so far!

romaniablack

I do love Jiji taking after his mom - she feels like a real one and at least ONE of the parents seems to justify the zaniness - it reminds me of Bakugo Katsuki’s mom in MHA – in fact, this pairing feels a lot like that. And Okarun is kind of like Deku so…hm. Interesting. YES. Thank you. Yeah, at this point, I’ve almost given up talking about EE because the fandom loves him and feels for him and we’re supposed to root for him so what can we do? But yeah, I don’t feel bad for Jiji anymore - he chose this so let’s let the characters deal with the consequences, eh? Thank you for the comment and kind words! Onwards and upwards!

L Freya

Oh, so back in your first year or so, I had no clue and I'm sorry to hear (only really aware of the Yona troubles)! I totally get it being super stressful - avoid at all costs! The less targets on the videos the better! :) I hope it didn't sound like I was advocating for you to go to no filters, just bringing up some others don't use them in the midst of all the copyright talk. I know it's a tired subject, so I don't mean to drag on over it! Whatever you deem best for your excellent reactions and discussions is totally no trouble and thanks again for it all!

romaniablack

Oh no, you are totally fine! Sorry for just getting back to this comment - I know that a lot of people manage to get away with it so what can you do? Hopefully people still think it's okay moving forward! :D I appreciate everyone's support!
