So, the lack of a reaction to the destroyed buildings and cars bothers me a bit. I mean, this is supposed to be a densely populated area, right? Not one person stuck their head out to see what all the ruckus was! I know, anime rules! I bring this up because there are Kaiju movies that do address this. Both the more recent Godzilla and the Heisei Gamera movies do just this. Husband and I a few weeks back saw the rerelease of Shin Godzilla in the theaters and, man, they did not spare anyone! There was a family trying to evacuate their apartment when you see Godzilla just take them out! From inside the apartment! Brutal! Kaiju movies have gotten darker over the years, just like the Batman movies have. We had our fill of mecha anime in the 70’s and 80’s for sure! I’m kinda a fan of it only because that’s all we got back in the day. As a young girl, I had to consume what was available to the US market and that was determined by guys. I remember the butchered Robotech series! What a mess! But, I watched faithfully because that’s all we got! I used to have Micronauts as a kid. They were the coolest toys I’ve ever owned and they were band because of small parts and projectiles shooting from their cannons! In season one they establish that aliens transport you into a space that only spiritual people can enter and when it leaves there is no damage... First when the flat woods monster destroys momos house in ep 2, then in ep 9 when nessie destroys the school

As Stephen above explained, it was already established in Season 1 that alienas have the ability to transport people to a parallel place with dark sky that mirrors the real world but is not it. Momo, Okarun and Aira knew it was an alien when they saw the black sky. Even if you forgot that detail from the previous season, at the start of the episode Jiji comments that everyone have vanished. There aren't other people, that is why nobody peek out of the window.

Isn't Evil Eye asking for Momo because he just spent half an episode with her getting treats and being chaotic at school two episodes ago? I think that clocks for me.

The writer definitely wrote themselves into a corner with Evil Eye not only because of the promise but because also if we used Evil Eye in every fight it would be over that bag throw knocking over the Kaiju was insane. I think the writer can find creative ways to use Evil Eye as a wildcard and maybe use Jiji athleticism separate from Evil Eye to get him involved. I guess we'll have to see. I think this is a really fun problem to now have in the series as it will make the fights more interesting instead of just having Evil Eye fall in line immediately and be part of the group I guess. Even in slice of life non shounen it's always fun to have the character who will bring a little friction to the group dynamic. Kinta is fun and I'm looking forward to his otaku soul to shine

Mecha versus Kaiju we love to see it

While this is not at all what I was expecing of this Kaiju battle, I can't complain to the premise of a mecha battling the kaiju xD My only thought when I realized what was going to happen, was about the Power Rangers as well, lol. I don't know if that was an intended callback, what with all the easter eggs that Dandadan has had, but it was really fun, and it got me super excited. I agree, I wanted to see Evil Eye fighting alongside them and see how that dynamic would have worked. That being said, I appreciate that the reasoning to not bring Evil Eye into this is one that I can understand and it makes sense... here's to hoping that fighting inside the mecha won't make Evil Eye think that it's alright to fight others and undo all the hard work that Okarun had to put with him, as per Okarun's previously stated concerns. You know what? Yeah, I totally agree, if Kinta is just some dude that doesn't get powers at all but it's still part of the group, that would be a really fun way to subvert the formula that we have had to this point. The house turning into a giant Buddah because of Momo is histeric. I really want to see this giant Buddah fighting the Kaiju.

Only one episode left, oh no! What a fun discussion and reaction! Kinta with the odd hand poses - made me think of Gendo Ikari, who is also often seen with his hands obscuring his forehead. Momo giving Kinta the nickname "perv" - just like Okarun being given to Ken Takakura, another similarity between the two. And loved the Aira / Kinta crack ship, that's just perfect! Finally, sorry not sorry warning to follow - But Evil Eye's ultimate weakness - if this was a very, VERY different anime, and thank god it's not - if all else fails Okarun could turn Jiji back by simply urinating on him. Ah-yup. Well, it's true! Survival shows have gone to far worse topics than that! Evil eye's own fault for casually wanting to murder everything and being a joke side character! :)

My question from last episode was promptly answered and we are indeed in a spiritual realm (and i guess Kinta has high spiritual power as he is here too), so as others also have pointed out, there should be no "real damage" here. From the top of my head the only times there was any real collateral damage in Dandadan was the abandoned hospital and nearby road in episode one, Turbo Grannys attack in the city and Evil Eye (well, and Okarun) destroying the Ayase house. We did also had Evil Eye punch a ball so hard that several people flew into the goal just from the wind force alone, and no one seemed to think that was strange, so i do still think the "criticism" of Dandadan not bothering with consequences still stand. :P

Right...it's all a very convenient writing choice, but it is what it is with "shonen logic," so we'll just go with it, but I appreciate you pointing out Jiji's dialogue at the start! I did notice that, but thought it was just a "barrier," since the same structures, etc. are used, instead of it just being a separate space - not sure why we have to recreate everything in that space...but again, "writing choice." Thanks!

I get that there’s another “Space/Barrier” created…but why go to the trouble to “recreate” all of the landmarks just so they’ll get destroyed if once the barrier disappears, it all goes back to normal? As a writer and English teacher, it just feels like a “safe” narrative choice to create artificial “stakes” with the buildings and such being destroyed…but then it’s all inconsequential. No people are in danger and no actual buildings will be destroyed which means no consequence. *shrugs* It is what it is - Shonen Logic! I have seen parts of the newer Godzilla movies, and yeah, I 100% agree that they do get darker and more “gritty” or “realistic!” Thank you for the links! I love the mecha elements being added! Ah, I remember Robotech being advertised as a kid but never truly got into it. That’s good information to know! I’ve also heard of G Force! 😀My brother was really into Gundam and Metabots as a kid, that’s for sure. I appreciate all the links and information! I agree, I was a nerdy kid growing up! Thank you for the information; I have some...issues...as a writer with that choice, which I'll talk about in Episode 12 and did in Moomin's comment below, but I appreciate you reminding me of that! Thanks! It is what it is - shonen logic! :D

I guess that makes sense; it would be a nice and subtle character building - it's just off-putting because it's the first time we've seen him call out for someone other than Okarun to fight.

Yeah, I’ll be curious to see how they use EE in the future, but I am always welcome to more growth of character with Jiji, so I’m excited to see it! In any case, I LOVE Kinta’s dynamic and freshness that he brings to the group and it’ll be fun to see what he does for the series! Thanks for the comment!

I’m honestly sad that we only have one episode left! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I just love Kinta already, but YES, he does remind me of Gendo Ikari as well! Let’s hope he ends up being a “happier” character! 😛 I’m 100% here for the Aira/Kinta crack ship! And…AHAHAHA, YOU KNOW - in this series that borders on the extreme at times…I wouldn’t put it past them to do it! “Survival Skills” and all! But man, with all my grievances against EE, even I wouldn’t want that for him or Okarun as Jiji’s friend! XD Thank you for the comment! Onwards to the finale!

Hahahaha, thank you for the comment and noting all of that - yeah, I’ll give my final “thoughts” on that in the intro for episode 12, but it is a “choice” the writer makes but it checks for standard “shonen logic.” Thanks for the comment! One to go for this season!

I love the concept of a Mech vs. Kaiju! And yes, instantly thinking of Power Rangers! And I’m sure DDD is referencing a lot of mech vs. Kaiju anime and I’m missing a lot of them, but that’s okay! Oh god…yeah, let’s see where that goes with EE in all of this! Hopefully it’s just a step forward and not a step back! I do love that Kinta is here to inject this new dynamic to the group and I can’t wait to see what it gives us! And only in DDD can we get a giant Buddha fighting a Kaiju! But I’m so excited for it! It feels like it just started, and now we have no idea how long we will have to wait for the next season... and the conclusion to that that cliffhanger which i imagine wasn't quite what you wanted? :P

Haven't been home for a few days so heading on to your reaction for episode 12 right now, i just imagined that with your love for misunderstandings and love triangles this was the perfect ending for you. ;) Oh and is love triangle the right name? With all the ships and crack ships perhaps it has now become a love hexagon?
