About the metaphore around Umemiya you mentioned - all characters from Bofurin have a name of some plant in their names, just like Sakura have Sakura, Umemiya have Ume, Nirei means Elm, Hiragi means Holly, Sugishita means Cedar etc Choji's voice makes him kinda so annoying there, but in a good way. Like he fits Chojis behavior. Ooooch Sako is here! I kinda like him. I wish I could write something more, but I think I will wait till next episodes

as sulyeri mentioned, bofurin, planted as windbreaks, all the bofurin related characters have names related to plants (more obvious when you see their kanji names) so it was cool you picked up on the umemiya garden metaphor! umemiya (ume/plum), sakura (cherry blossom), tachibana (mandarin orange), etc another interesting tidbit with names: for shishitoren, with the animal symbol, have names related to animals too. tomiyama choji (the to stands for rabbit/hare so he's restless and hyper), togame (game for turtle hence how slow he talks), sako (ko for fox), arima (ma for horse), kanuma (ka for deer) heck even the guy who got beat down in ep 3 saruwatari (saru for monkey)

sakura is soooo cat, even got headpats! his voice actor voiced kyo from fruits basket so maybe he got cat casted? haha umemiya's got aura, i like the way his eyes narrowed when he was unhappy with choji hiragi and sako! surprise last minute addition to the fights lol hiragi trying to act like he's not involved in this but got dragged in anyway it's funny but yeah umemiya and kotoha are not dating, they are kinda siblings lol honestly it's refreshing to see him doting on her without feeling like he's crossing the line cough bungou stray dogs cough sakura you can't just say someone looks old like that! but if you haven't noticed, sugishita saw umemiya getting mad and threw the chair to shut sakura up lol

Loved the reaction and discussion! Such a fun episode. 🥰 Various moments I loved: Ume’s proper introduction, featuring one of my favourite comic tropes – two people having two entirely different conversations. Poor Hiragi. 🤣 The number of your potential ships starting to grow exponentially 😆 Definitely agree that the characters in the background of any scene are so fun to watch! “Foaming at the mouth, dog noises” Sugi. He makes me laugh so much. 😆 Choji’s high-octane introduction! Something you noted in discussion is so important – these young people needing an outlet and that broader point. Bit of a tangent, but the place where I live (a pretty neglected region anyway, historically), up until a couple of years ago was impacted by over a decade of austerity policies. This entirely gutted funding for all manner of social programmes – community centres, after school activities of all types, even just places where people could be without having to spend money. All of it was entirely decimated and the region didn't have that many in the first place. And now, even if there was money to recreate these things, all the infrastructure to support it was completely destroyed. So we just get a lot more anti-social behaviour in our area and a whole bunch of people and politicians complaining about young people being so very horrible these days. Ugh. /endoftangent But it is also good to see how far Bofurin’s positive influence spreads, with Sasaki being such a sweet example. Love that he spoke up first when meeting Ume (even if from the fear of having to wait any longer), took responsibility, understood the consequences and then thanked the group later. 🥰 Cannot wait for next week! 🌸

Umemiya is unhinged, it seems, but he leaves quite the unforgetable impretion. Kotoha being 16 will never not surprise me so much. Girl is wise beyond her years, indeed. But, also, do you mean to tell me she own the cafe herself already? Dang, that's impressive. I guess we have set up a sort of tournament arc, and that's so exciting. Sakura not knowing what to say when someone is relying in him like this was a funny little bit, but I'm so here for him gaining all this new experiences and floundering through them until they fit like a glove for him. Gosh, Suo is such a dramatic queen, living for the constant drama around him xD

I just love Sakura and his stray cat coding! And the voice acting casting is ON POINT in that case! XD Umemiya is literally “aura farming” in this episode! And yes, that eye narrowing at Choji he did was SO GOOD! Hiragi needs to not have to babysit so much! 😛If it’s cool, I don’t want confirmation if characters are dating or not - I’d rather find out through the show as a blind reactor!
