I honestly....ended up remembering only about 5% of this episode set, which made it a lot of fun for me to react and discuss with you all! I'm slowly realizing how...little I remember of this series, and that's not a bad thing, especially as Hisoka and these new characters make this so much fun!

What kills me in this episode, is seeing Netero getting upset with Menchi failing all the candidates; no, we can't have that, failing everyone is no good... but killing them all? That's perfectly fine! Netero quickly agrees to a new exam in which they all jump off a huge cliff to what could easily be falling to their deaths! I'm getting the sense that hunters don't think much of their own lives or other hunters at all, with a few exceptions. I haven't really seen THAT much One Piece, but perhaps there's a similar feeling in that show, where the pirates all see murder and death as pretty normal costs of the occupation, with a few exceptions once again? Leorio finally gets a shirt! Boo! Haha, well good for him, I guess we don't want him getting tetanus from all these pins! Thanks for the reaction and discussion! It's fun to see how you remember some things and many others are a surprise! Keeping it shorter for the holidays but hope you had a nice holiday! 😊

Yeaaaaahhhh that is a REALLY interesting part…hmmm…sadist much, Netero? We can’t waste the possibility of TALENT being there. Hm. Or there could be something more there…I definitely want to talk about this in a future intro! And yessss, I will say, there are DEFINITELY some comparisons to One Piece and its themes as well! Leorio gets clothing! Hahaha!! And yes, no tetanus for anyone! Thank you for the comment and kind words - I’m really starting to feel like I don’t remember as much as I thought I did at this point in the series, but that’s not a bad thing! Generation Wumbo

I really love Daisuke Namikawa's performance during the first Hisoka encounter. His creepy lines as he pops up behind Gon are really freaky. Mariya Ise as Killua and especially Megumi Han as Gon end up as some of my favorite Japanese voice work, but Daisuke Namikawa kills it from the start. Hisoka while super creepy is a great role. I imagine he was fun to do.

RIGHT?! The tone as he talks to Gon is SO. CREEPY. I really love Killua and Gon's VA work -- they just are so consistently passionate and you can tell. But yeah, Namikawa KNOWS this character is going to be ICONIC and dedicates such creepiness and sinister quality to the work. I wholeheartedly agree -- I'm sure he was having a blast in the recording studio! Thank you for the comment!
